Take one part Judas Priest, one part Saxon, one part Savatage...put in a blender and mix well:

Is the fact that this band did two rock opera albums based on the video game MegaMan seem ridiculous? Yes. Is it odd that this band somehow can take the influences of Queen, Pink Floyd, Meatloaf, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Alan Parsons & Radiohead and mix them with the feel of 80’s soundtracks like Vision Quest, Streets of Fire and Eddie and the Cruisers…then throw in some orchestral interludes…and make it all work? Yes. But, damn, it’s a fun ride. And a lot of it is actually danceable.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra songs are like Penguins in the Antarctica. They remind you of cold weather…and they are almost all the same.

-When a kid starts to learn how to play a guitar, the very first song he or she learns is Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. -Arguably, The Moody Blues invented a whole new genre called prog rock. -Chicago’s last album was called Chicago XXXVI. They have 36 albums! -Iron Maiden and Judas Priest led the whole New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. -And then there’s 46 years of Jethro Tull.
But who does the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame induct in first? Green Day. Now, I’m not one to overly-bitch about the dumb moves the HOF makes…but it’s starting to get ri-goddam-diculous. If it wasn’t for Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, Billie Joe Armstrong would have never taken his first steps of playing guitar to begin with. And I get the whole inducting-rap-and-R&B-artists-thing…”Rock n Roll” is just a blanket title that’s supposed to mean ALL popular music. But before the hall starts dabbling into the 90’s, maybe they need to clean up the 70’s acts who came before them. Did the Baseball Hall of Fame induct Willie Stargell in before Willie Mays? No…they did not.
Oh…and don’t get me started on Joan Jett and her THREE hits getting inducted this year. Pat Benatar had about 15-20.

Jesse...I think you should give Sturgill Simpson's Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. If you like the outlaw-country music of the 70s, you will love this guy.

Well...let me be the buzz-kill here. The songs bore me to death. I skipped every song about half way through. It’s almost like I knew how each song was going to sound by just reading the song title. There’s being predictable…and there’s being TOO predictable. I think if you’re going to compare it to Black in Black, that just may be the “excitement of having a new AC/DC album” talking. Wait a year or two and THEN tell me it’s as good or better than Back in Black. It's cool that they are still kickin' and making a lot of their fans happy. But if they asked me the question of "Rock or Bust?" sadly I'd say...Bust.

Defenders of the Faith is probably my favorite album by them, and the first one I bought in 1984.
If I had to do a top ten it'd look something like:
1. The Hellion/Electric Eye 2. Rock Hard Ride Free 3. Love Bites 4. The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown) 5. Breaking the Law 6. Hell Patrol 7. Out in the Cold 8. Halls of Valhalla 9. A Touch of Evil 10. (Take These) Chains
The only stand out track on Nostradamus, IMO, was Visions.

I heard the new song today. It's...eh. A mid-tempo rocker like one would expect. It's called Play Ball...and yes, what you are imagining in your head is EXACTLY how it sounds for real. ht

I’ve been rebuying albums I already own on Blu-ray surround sound. When the mix is done correctly, it’s like hearing the album for the first time. So, for much of 2014 I’ve been digging into King Crimson archives and getting the surround sound reissues. I also have a room that is perfect; not too big, not too small. And when I crank “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, Pt 1”…well, I don’t think I own anything that is as intense.

I’ll tell you this: The rock star is dead. When Mick Jagger, Axl Rose, Bono, Steven Tyler and the likes all finally pass on, there is no one who will take their place. Sadly, the new “rock star” is the “rap star”. We grew up with the David Lee Roths of the world. Today’s kids grow up with the Jay Zs of the world. Or, I guess you can say…rap stars and country stars have BOTH replaced the rock star. And I don’t know what makes me wanna barf more: Brad Paisley or Nicki Minaj. Rock stars had a “dangerous” quality to them…Divas who drank, did drugs and fucked too much. Now the “dangerous aspect” is rap stars who beat their girlfriends and get shot at a club. And if someone thinks there are a slew of younger rock stars to replace the older legends…like Chris Martin and Adam Levine…Well, that will just prove my point even more.

Chevrolet already made us never want to hear "Like a Rock" by Bob Seger and "Our Country" By John Mellencamp again. So, Kid Rock was the next logical step.
