I've always got into moods where I rediscover bands, do you ever do this? Lately it's been Queen. I just bought their newly released (finally) Live At The Rainbow'74. So now I'm listening to the first 8 studio albums plus Live Killers their fantastic live album from 1978. I love rediscovering bands because I always hear things I never heard before. That's the musician in me coming out. It keeps the music fresh even after all these years.
These are the Queen albums I'm vegging out on.....
Queen Queen II Sheer Heart Attack A Night At The Opera A Day At The Races News Of The World Jazz Live Killers The Game
Plus...Live At The Rainbow '74
Any one else do this? And if so who's your latest band?

This is going to sound retarded, but I've actually been in the mood of rediscovering latter day Molly Hatchet. Believe it or not, I really hadn't listened to them in awhile unless a song came up when my iPod was on shuffle mode. My band currently plays "Flirtin' With Disaster" and is working on "Gator Country", "Dreams" and "Cheatin' Woman". I have ALL MH cds on display in my jam room and the guys were asking about the latter day albums. I made a CD "best of Molly Hatchet 1996-2010" for them, but made a copy for myself too and have been listening to it as if through their ears. Kinda brought me a different perspective toward the music of that version of the band.
Also, since my wife died, for whatever reason, I've been getting back into progressive metal-Helloween, Savatage, Metallium, etc- and heavy melodic.....I dunno, Arena Rock, I guess you'd call it. Latter day Axe, Double Cross, Ritchrath and a recent discovery: Stan Bush.

I’ve been rebuying albums I already own on Blu-ray surround sound. When the mix is done correctly, it’s like hearing the album for the first time. So, for much of 2014 I’ve been digging into King Crimson archives and getting the surround sound reissues. I also have a room that is perfect; not too big, not too small. And when I crank “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, Pt 1”…well, I don’t think I own anything that is as intense.

I'm always rediscovering bands...Frank, I've been tempted to try the Live at the Rainbow '74 album by Queen. I love Live Killers...especially the rocking version of We Will Rock You. Jesse...I would've thought all Molly Hatchet would've been a pretty regular listen for you...I do like their Devil's Canyon(I really like Rolling Thunder) and the Lightning Strikes Twice (probably because of the Kiss connection with Hide your Heart and I like Take Miss Lucy Home). Space...I always liked King Crimson...Larks Tongues in Aspic Part one is one of my favs but I really love the Court of the Crimson King album especially 21st Century Schizoid Man which there are some decent covers of that tune out their but none including the great live version on their USA album featuring the great drummer Bill Bruford can compare to that original version. I love the sound of Michael Giles drums on that version.
Myself, shortly before Johnny Winter passed away I was in a phase and kept buying his cd's. I am now up to 22 Johnny Winter Cd's. I still have to pick up his latest album Step Back which just got released this month. It features a bunch of duets with different musicians like Clapton, Bonamassa, Setzer, Billy Gibbons, & Joe Perry. He actually released a previous duets album called Roots which is really great. I'm glad I got to see Johnny Winter in concert last year. I also fell into a Motley Crue phase lately buying the remaster of Too Fast for Love, Dr. Feelgood, & Saints of Los Angeles after seeing them in concert with Alice Cooper on August 31st. (I'm always in a Cooper phase and have everything sooo....). Speaking of Cooper... I've been in a different kind of Cooper phase the past couple of weeks where I've been listening to stuff by his original band that came out after their split:
Neal Smith(drummer) - Platinum God album
Michael Bruce(guitarist) - In My Own Way, Best of MB, and. Halo of Ice live in Iceland
Dennis Dunaway(bass) - Dennis Dunaway Project & 2 albums by Blue Coupe which features Dunaway along w/the Bouchard brothers from BOC
Billion Dollar Babies - Battle Axe (1977 album featuring Bruce, Dunaway, & Smith)
Deadringer - Electrocution of the Heart (80's metal featuring Dunaway & Smith)
Bruce, Buxton, Smith, & Scarlet - Area 51 Live (final show of original lead guitarist Glen Buxton before he passed away...the band plays a set of classic Cooper

For some reason, I am on a Kentucky Headhunters kick right now. I made myself a "Best Of Kentucky Headhunters" CD the other night. Believe it or not, it was tough narrowing their catalog down to just 1 CDs worth of music. Also, I've come to the conclusion that the Kentucky Headhunters were and are basically Status Quo with a twang.

"Status Quo with a twang"...I LIKE that!. I agree.
For what it's worth Jesse, I have 2 of their tracks on my humble little flash player. Keep in mind, I'm pretty selective when it comes to what I include on this little Sansa bastard, so with only about 130 songs, you gotta know, the Headhunters are up there on my list.
I love the remake of "Lonesome Me. They really kicked that one up a notch! When I first saw the video back in the late 80's, I was hooked.
Thanks Kim

I've been on a Black Sabbath pre-history kick on youtube. Has anyone else heard their whacked-out 60's fusion-beat tunes with a Jazz trumpeter? Very strange stuff, but there's a lot of the cornerstone guitar riffs and phrasing to their most famous songs in there. Fun!
