I don't think I did this Top 10 yet.
Yeah, and I'm not counting any of their live albums.. which makes for slim pickin's, but here we go:
10-Their next album. Haven't heard it yet, but I'm pretty confident that it will be better than "St Anger" or the one they did with Lou Reed.
9-Garage Inc. Yeah, it's all cover songs, but some of them are pretty darned good.
8-Re-Load. Songs that weren't good enough for the first "Load", 'nuf said.
7-And Justice For All. Maybe ranked a little low for some people as this was the BIG album when I was in High School. Doesn't matter how popular it was, I never "got" it. Sure, "One" is awesome and "Harvester Of Sorrow" isn't far behind, couple others are ok, most of it I can go the rest of my life never hearing again.
6-Death Magnetic. Granted, I've only heard bits and pieces of it. Most of what I heard was pretty good. Had this been the follow up to their black album, i might put this one higher. Unfortunately, by the time it came out, I was onto better things.
5-Load. Really not a bad album, just disappointing. They took 5 years after the black album to release this and it sounds like they wrote most of these songs in five minutes.
4=Kill 'Em All. Raw. The songwriting skills just aren't there yet on this one. However, they make up for it with intensity. Couple songs show us what was to come. The inclusion of "Am I Evil" on my copy lifts this album toward the top of the heap.
Top 3 coming up, but you probably already know what order I'm going with.

1. Ride the Lightning 2. Master of Puppets 3. Garage, Inc. 4. Kill ‘Em All 5. Death Magnetic 6. …And Justice for All 7. Metallica 8. Load 9. St. Anger 10. Reload Not a bad ranking. I don't think we're all that far off. On a different day, I might even go with your rankings....though I can't bring myself to put "And Justice For All" above "Metallica". Here's my top 3: 3-Master Of Puppets. On certain days, this is easily #2, sometimes #1. The best stuff on this album is some of their best stuff ever. However, I never really cared for "Leper Messiah" or "Damage INC" and, overall, this album lacks the intensity of their 1st 2 IMO. 2-Ride The Lightning. Has the intensity of "Kill 'Em All" with songwriting that rivals "Master...". Hard to believe this was only their second full length album. Mature beyond their years. 1-Metallica. Anyone a few years older than me probably disagree with this being their best album, but IMO, the songwriting is still there and the overall sound is much better than their previous albums. Yeah, the songs were shorter and used simpler arrangements, but it still sounded like Metallica to my ears....unlike most of what was on the "Load" albums. Couple of turds on here, but this was their first album released totally for the CD age, so we get 12 songs instead of the usual 8 or 9 on their previous albums and I'll take the best 8 songs from this album over any of their previous work...even if only by a nose.

I've never been a huge Metallica fan but I do like them a lot. When I first seen this thread I thought for a second "Hmmm do they have 10 albums out?" Then I see the lists and...I never realized how many Metallica albums I have!(I have 9). Anyway, the only albums I will rate would be a top 6 Metallica because other than "Fuel" I don't really listen to Reload and as far as Death Magnetic I listened to it once and haven't pulled it out since. I am a huge Lou Reed album but Lulu is awful
1) Kill'em All - My favorite...I love every track! 2) Master of the Puppets 3) Ride the Lightning 4) Justice for All (the reason I gave this the edge over the s/t album is because of Shortest Straw which is my second fav Metallica tune(1st is Seek and Destroy) 5) Metallica 6) Garage Days
Seeing how Jesse and Jamie have Death Magnetic at #5 I'll have to pull it out and give it another chance!
