Can't find a good article to cut and paste here, but it looks like he died of a heart attack. 63, that really isn't all that old.

I was shocked to hear this... no I wasn't a huge Survivor fan but I did like his previous unknown band Target. I remember sometime within the last 15 years I seen something on the internet about Survivor's lead singer Jimi Jamison and I said to myself "I think he was the singer in Target!" & sure enough. In the late 70's my uncle knew someone that worked in a record store and every so often he would give me promo records. He gave me the Ramones Rocket to Russia album,Van Halen's debut, and a bunch of others. Two bands that I also thought might break it was one Canadian trio band called Driver that was pretty decent and then there was Target. Target was a hard rockin' band with a bit of Southern hint. I played that Target and Driver album quite a bit and really grew to like both bands(I even hooked a few friends into them). I don't know maybe it was because of the way he spelled his name but I always remembered Jimi's name. He had a cool sounding voice in Target and about 4 years later I was searching through the bargain bins at a record store with a friend and he came across a second Target album title Captured so we both ended up buying one ($.99!). It was decent as well but not as good as their debut. I'm listening to the debut right now and their sound could be described as Bad Co. Meets Southern Rock

I saw Jimi in October of 84 open for REO Speedwagon in Omaha Nebraska. Also opening was Zebra. Great show, great vocalist. R.I.P

Survivor was one of those bands that I always had a soft spot for. Didn't really like them as much as I WANTED to like them. Kind alike (early) Axe, Vixen and... I dunno, maybe the list ends there. Still, I always thought Jamison had an amazing voice. "Too Hot To Sleep" was my favorite Survivor album. Low on hits, but it rocked harder than most of their catalog. Favorite Survivor song was this one:
Always gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside whenever I heard it.
Never did hear Target, I'll have to look for those albums, Bucky, sounds like I'm missing something.
