Personally, I think ol' Alan is trying to make headlines again. The video here is decieving. Yes, the Choruses match up when played in that order, but ONLY that order and ONLY the Choruses. Even then, the vocal lines are totally different as are the dynamics. Add in the verses and the main hook and they are 2 totally different songs IMO. With literally millions of songs released since the begining of time and a finite number of chords, there are bound to be songs that use the same chords in the same progression at the same tempo, but I don't see where "Need You Now" plagerizes "Eye In The Sky" any more than "Werewolves In London" plaigerizes "Sweet Home Alabama". I have to disagree...you can't copyright a chord progression any how...so the "limited number of chords cannot be an issue. It's chords + melody that makes the copywritable entity...and THAT song fits the bill IMO. You have to understand that country radio is on in my life(the wife) a LOT here. The first time I heard that song I instantly heard the rip-off...just like the Gretchen Wilson song. Ripping off tunes is par for the course BUT c'mon you got change a LITTLE. If KISS can get sued for THIS that Lady Antebellum is WAY over the line.

I LOVE the debut.... I basically like everything the band has done, some better than others, but I have always been able to hang and they've never lost me.
What IS sad, IMO, is that they NEVER played any music like this again(well maybe that EP of covers), I understand they wanted to dofferent things but to NEVER put out any straight ahead rock ever again!?!?!

This is my take....we didn't have much anything else.
No computers with free porn 24/7...how many guys here had one or two treasured Playboys and that was IT.
No X Boxes...just arcades that cost .25 to play. I have pretty much quit gaming after Playstation BUT these new sytems are awesome...I just don't have the desire to learn the controls anymore.
No cable TV...for the most part we all got 3 or 4 channels if we were lucky. Music filled that void.
If you had a car it was a piece of crap and you couldn't afford gas. We are not rich by any means but my kids standard of living is WAY HIGHER than I ever had. We have EVERYTHING you could possibly need and MORE.
There are just too many OTHER things for kids today to do....AND ATHLETES are the new rock stars. More people attend Pro Sporting events these days than ever attend rock shows.

JJ for me. I liked Pat early on but her stuff just seemed to get schmaltzyer and schmaltzyer. JJ is a rocker and will always be one.

I think the main reason is because in their effort to "go with the latest trends", they sell out on the TRUE music There is truth in that one. As well peoples musical tastes and outlook on life changes making it very hard to return to something they once did. We all think of our favorite bands making music "for their fans" when initially they just did what came natural. As they change what's "natural" is different. It's just natural that a band will change.

I think what Speedy said is right..look at Pink Floyd they have never been the same without Waters and Gilmore working together. Perfect example. Especially if you accept DSOTM as their pinnacle. Watch the Classic Album series on that one. Listen how they used each others music, blend them together and make great songs out of them. The band was on the ropes and willing to compromise. After you are a millionaire what point is there to compromise anymore?? At least that's how the human mind works. If a guy can take you to the top...once you are there you feel you don't need him anymore. Happens TOO MANY times in music.

To use KISS as the example:
In the beginning the band KISS worked together as a UNIT with ONE goal...success. Basically egos were thrown out the door for the GOOD of the whole. Each member contributed to the music their OWN piece of the puzzle. That makes the music a SUM of those FOUR individuals, some MORE than others but still FOUR as ONE....so in order to have the CLASSIC KISS SOUND you need:
GENE SIMMONS ACE FREHLEY PAUL STANLEY PETER CRISS
AND you need them to be on EQUAL footing as far as input and ideas go...with the ATTITUDE that whats BEST will win out. EGOS cannot be part of the equation. You need a strong producer like Eddie Kramer or Bob Ezrin to be the sounding board and final word.
MODERN KISS...even when the band re-united... is Gene and Paul with hired guns. Since 1980 other KISS members have had little or no say in the music. The final say has always been with the OWNERS of the KISS name. The 80's showed that although they could write some good stuff....KISS without the input of the 4 original guys was NOT the same band. Even getting a producer who has enough clout to steer the ship has been impossible. Either they cower in the presence of Stanley/Simmons (most 80's producers) OR they get sabatoged (see Psycho Circus) Once a band gets SUCCESS the members are less inclined to compromise and accept the input of others. It's not as easy as trying to COPY something it's the PEOPLE involved.
KISS is just one example....this has happened a zillion times in popular music.
Lennon and McCartney never made music as good as they did with the Beatles.
Aerosmith hasn't been decent since one guy has all the say.
Nugent never made a great album without Derek St Holmes
The death of Bon Scott had a HUGE effect on the AC/DC sound
Judas Priest without Rob Halford is not Judas Priest.

Eddie Kramer has also said that the only original live recording on the album is Ace Frehley's guitar! Also on the VH1 story on Kiss the band members make it known the album was severely doctored in the studio. All those involved like to hear themselves talk. They don't keep their stories straight from one day to another. They also don't give a shit...Stanley doesn't even know what tracks are on what album. It's alwyas been obvious that the fandom cares WAY MORE than KISS ever did. Kramer has said that the only thing original was drums and ACE's guitar. He changes his story to make whoever is listening happy...like our elected officials. ;D HOWEVER...by listening to those recordings you can hear that little was done. Hell, KISS would say anything to get a blurb of free press. All of them are full of shit

But Kiss Alive is a studio album with bits of crowd mixed in. Crowd from a Rush show in fact. According to Paul Stanley anyway. Highly doubtful...RUSH was on tour opening FOR KISS when ALIVE! was recorded and I have never read anything by Stanley stating that "RUSH" was used for crowd noise. According to Eddie Kramer crowd noise from the Rose Bowl was used to "enhance" the crowd noise. The "fakeness" of KISS ALIVE! is highly exagerated. You can listen to many of the source recordings on YouTube. VOCALS are repaired here and there BUT the music is basically untouched. KISS ALIVE!II and III have many more "false alive" moments. Tomorrow and Tonight and Hard Luck Womand are sound check tunes with crowd noise added. In fact ALIVE! II widely heralded as being done in LA is actually mostly from Japan. The Japanese crowd is easily identified. Here's some tunes from ALIVE! before "fixing" . KISStards like me can easily recognize these as the versions that appeared on ALIVE!. Fixes that are readily apparent are remixing and Vocal dropouts. Crowd noise IS enhanced...however crowd noise on live albums IS usually enhanced...otherwise their is very little because of the directional tendencies of mics used in live situations.

I love Soungarden as a recording project...BUT as a live act they are like watching paint dry...the most boring live band I ever saw.

I like a lot of Mark Faner's "God Rock" as he likes to call it. I also agree on Messiah Prophet..good band and good luck finding it anywhere. There are plenty of others that are/were good. However it is just like secular music...some is GREAT...most sucks.

I picked Talking Heads, I like things a little strange. Al Green is the obvious choice and really has the soul...Foghat BLOWS on this song, way to WHITE sounding. They nailed I Just Want to Make Love to You but not this one.

I love ACE butt will be a MIRACLE if he gets this thing done. I don't expect much. ACE tends to just blow things off. He won't be revealing much dirt.
PETER CRISS's will be the ONE to read. He doesn't pull any punches about how he feels things went down....at least in HIS point of view.
