I don't like labelling music like that. I think their are some really good bands such as Kutless & Skillet but I like them because I like them not because they're christian Rock. I can also throw on Venom or Slayer & enjoy them

Most christian rock sounds cheaply produced. I can hear three seconds of a song and can tell it's christian rock from the way the music is written and produced.

Never got into Stryper, but I did like early Whitecross, Rez Band, X-Sinner, Messiah Prophet, Deliverance, Shout, Ken Tamplin, Rick Cua, Degarmo & Key and several others. Somewhere in the mid 90's, something changed with Christian Rock and it became as Spacel0rd said: You could pick it out as Christian Rock even before you heard the lyrics. Late 80's and early 90's Christian Rock though was as good as anything secular at the time IMO.

Yeah I'm kind of a "weekend warrior" type fan of Christian music...and love to quote the following...
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Status Quo thou art with me; thy guitar and thy drums, they comfort me..along with my BOSE headphones that adorn my head as I stand up and rock and roll..
Thanks Kim

I went to a Petra concert in the late 80s that wasn't bad but their albums were terrible. I like Skillet and Red Currently. I kinda dig DC Talk's 1995 album 'Jesus Freak'

They were ok, but not good enough to make me want to buy a CD of them. Opening band White Heart was REALLY GOOD, however, when I bought their CD it was kinda 'meh". It was okay, but it didn't even seem like it was the same band I had just witnessed in concert.

Rock has for a looooooooong time.....TOO LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG...been branded as EVIL music by many a religious cult inc the Roman Catholic and Protestant religions, so why the "inverse conversion" to rock all of a sudden???! All of this sounds VERY fishy to me...it actually STINX:)

All of this sounds VERY fishy to me...it actually STINX:) All of a sudden? Rez Band, Degarmo & Key and Mylon Lefevre were doing the Christian Rock thing back in the 70's. Rick Cua started as soon as he left the Outlaws in 1983. Kansas' Kerry Livgren and John Elefante also went to the Christian Rock market around 1983 (Hell many of Kansas' lyrics could've easily been marketed as Christian Rock) as did Grand Funk's Mark Farner. All pre-dated and out-rocked Stryper .

I like a lot of Mark Faner's "God Rock" as he likes to call it. I also agree on Messiah Prophet..good band and good luck finding it anywhere. There are plenty of others that are/were good. However it is just like secular music...some is GREAT...most sucks.

When anybody calls themselves a "Christian" I run the other way fast.
You can't call yourself that. Others have to call you that. It's just a cold, hard truth.

I can also throw on Venom or Slayer & enjoy them Same here, if it's good music, it's good music no matter what label it's given. I did take my 13 y/o daughter to see Skillet, Red & The Letter Black (Skillet & The Beatles are her favorite bands) in concert a few months back, and all 3 put on a helluva show, and I think they're all considered christian rock.
