Collective Soul is pretty much Christian Rock...and most of you guys like them.
Good point Spacel0rd!!!...
Collective Soul isn't SELLING gawd. There may be a few
"heavenly" references, but not unlike The Beatles,
The Rolling Stones and a few other groups that
appear to fall by the way side, I don't feel the urge
to convert to, or have a "hankering" to in terms
to the reference of someone named "gawd"?
The Tea Party has a track called "Heaven Coming Down"...
but I don't believe that they're flogging the religious crap?
For what it's worth...
Understandably, the tag rankles. "I don't agree with it at all," says Roland, flatly "I remember around the time ["Shine" came out] getting into an argument with a writer who said, 'You're a Christian band.' I said, 'No, we're not.' 'Well, you have the word heaven in your song.' And I said, 'Well, so does Led Zeppelin. I don't remember anyone saying they were a Christian band.'" Roland seems especially upset by the Christian label not because it necessarily clashes with his personal beliefs, but because such a tag suggests that the band is united by a particular brand of faith. "We're five individual guys with five individual beliefs. No one person in the band can speak on behalf of the band. We all believe in a higher being, but we're not out to profess what it is." To me, and for some other Collective Soul fans...it's the music that
defines this group. Granted, if a person wants to find "gawd"
in the music...then by all means...knock yerself out.
A song like "Run" may be considered...but in my opinion,
ethereal for the most part...not "gawd like"
You can also find "gawd" in ZZ TOP, Iron Butterfly, Jimi Hendrix or Judas Priest, but to what extent can anyone deem it as
"Christian Rock"?...if "gawd" is there for ya whilst sampling
those artists...all I can say is Halllefuckinyouya!!!
"gawd" spkeaks to me whenever I listen to Jethro Tull...and Ian's pagan take on most tracks off of the Broadsword & The Beast album, yet I have to ask myself...have I found religion?...and do I need to give money to some man in the sky when someone comes knocking at my door?....................
simply put...uhmm...NO!...too busy playing the air guitar and finding a whole new meaning to the music from whence it may have came if in fact it was "gawd like" to begin with???
Instead, I tell them that I worship the devil and turn up AC/DC...that usually does the trick...
...of course I invite them in for a beer first............
They usually walk away very enlightened or at least
a might inebriated..........
Honestly, I don't think "gawd" cares much for the music
that I appreciate. If he did, he'd be here on this great
forum...so far...I have yet to witness his/her/it's presence........ ;D
Understandable though, kind of hard to expect as much when
yer busy in the sky, looking for money, and making sure that the other "gawds" are being smitten by those that were sent out to fight the other "gawds"
Thanks
Kim
