It amazes me new Van Halen with David Lee Roth couldn't out-sell a CD that's been out for over a year. Sadly I am not suprised. People just don't give a damn about music anymore. Too many other things gumming up the minds of modern man. When I was a teen everyone had a guitar. Now my sons who both are decent musicians can't find anyone who can PLAY!? Athletes are the new RockStars and the airwaves are ruled by SCHLOCK.

Being a rock performer for at least 30 years I can tell you women LOVE rock music. The girls still hang all over the fat, 40 something man I am. However SOME "r&r" is NOT to their liking....just like there is some that men do not really care for. These are ALL generalizations in the end, and there are ALWAYS exceptions.
Girls love to dance. If the song is undanceable forget it. That leaves out a LOT of metal.
Fierce or violent imagery turns women off. It may be a self preservation thing or a fear thing but men looking angry and raising their fists just disturbs women. Just like Steve Perry acting all faggy disturbs men. I spent years working in mental health and the truth is even though they WILL deny it openly, in therapy women fear men and any signals that remind them of this possible violence keeps them stressed. Therefore metal and similar male dominated music is stressful rather then enjoyable for them. Even though rock shows are "safe" the testosterone in the air just makes them uncomfortable. It's true.
Women are mentally set up to seek stability. R&R is all about being UNSTABLE and freedom. That's why they prefer love songs to songs of power and achievment. Most heavy rock is about banging some unidentified chick or conquering some sort of unseen force. Girls in general are not sluts and certainly don't relate to getting "banged" and in general do NOT dream of conquering the forces of evil to show everyone how great they are.

and he kicked MAJOR ass. I have seen him at least 6 or seven times since the 70's and this is the BEST show I can ever remember him doing.
Having Derek in the band always makes it better but this time it was even more brutal.
Go if you can before the tour is over....however be warned I am NOT a fan of wearing ear plugs BUT it was FUCKING LOUD and I put them in after 2 bars of the opening tune. Maybe because I was in front row at the tiny Cleveland HOB.

Don't have much use for the show BUT this season has been very interesting and real IMO.
Gene is an emotionally closed man on many issues. The therapy shows this. Shannon knew what she was getting...she was with Hugh Hefner for goodness sake.
The episode where Gene returns to Israel and meets family he never knew existed is very moving. You can see his emotional shell cracking and falling off. If nothing else see that episode and then decide if he is a fraud.

I think late 70's Punk was a more innovative musical force than Beatlemania because it spoke to the Blue Collar workers & inner-city kids. It showed you did not have to be a virtuoso on an instrument so anybody could do it. The BEATLES did the exact same thing for music when they came out. You have to remember when that was. You have to remember that until the Beatles 50's style rock was the top dog. Every band after the Beatles took one aspect of their music and made a career out of it. Only Sabbath comes close to influencing as many bands. They may not be my FAVORITE but they certainly are NOT overrated. Evry member of the Beatles had hit songs AFTER leaving the Beatles. The BEATLES have more music sales in the 2000's than any band. That's right, 41 years after they broke up they still sell more albums than EVERY ACT out there.

I like an original band if I like their....er, "originals".
I can enjoy a good cover band as well, in fact I play in one, a very popular one. I don't understand the fans that follow us around every weekend. You would think they would get sick of us. However I DO appreciate them. It's strange, we know about 200 tunes but when it comes time for "requests' they always pick some song that is beaten into the ground that I never want to hear again as long as I live.
What I HATE are cover/original bands with no passion or desire. Lazy bands that come out with no sound reinforcement and sound like crap because of it. If a band is not miking the drums I usually KNOW they are going to suck.
