It's the exact opposite in my opinion.
Women aren't "turned off" by "r&r" music.
In fact, they embrace it.
The majority of women love rock and roll to the point where they are more open minded when it comes to the genre than we are, and in fact are quite the experts when it comes to what they like or don't like. They just don't go on and on about it like we do.
Although we don't get the opportunity to hear from her
much these days, I would suspect that FunkyCanuck would
have a few things to say about this and for what it's worth,
she sure seems to know what "rock and roll" is all about,
and most importantly, what truly floats her boat when it comes
to music...ergo, she would most likely be able to tell the majority
of us just what music is all about to begin with on levels that
us "guys" are capable of understanding.
Think about it Blue...as Trexx mentioned, Gene Simmons as an example, has a site dedicated to him and the group no less due
to the bleedin' obvious, but is yet just another part of music that
most likely, us guys will never fully comprehend.
However, if you put yourself in Genes' shoes, and do what he does, does it not make sense that KISS and Co. are catering
to both of the sexes, just on different levels?
My wifes sister is a prime example. Loves Bon Jovi.
Yeah, probably a sexual thing...but one that has lasted since
BJ's inception. It's the music combined with the image as well
that has kept the flame alive and it appears that the affair has
lasted for some almost 30 years for her.
My wife is no exception. She has the capacity to embrace
the "new music" of the day and it surprises me to hear her
ask me to download some of the funkiest shit going!
Yet, if were to ask her, she'd be the first one to admit that the
opening chords to Smoke on The Water truly is a classic!!!
I honestly believe that women have a much broader
acceptance when it comes to music and they are capable
of enjoying it just as much as we do...even moreso because
of their unique range of emotions.
You see, it's a bonus for the gals, because they get the best
of both worlds when it comes to music.
For the women, it's great music performed by someone that
may, or may not entice them on a sexual level.
For us, it's great music that lifts our spirits and incites a level
of power and self confidence in us, that ultimately finds us wishing it was "us" up there doing what our musical heroes are doing on stage to attract the females in the first place.
Seriously, the last time you played "air guitar" to
AC/DC's "Thunderstruck"........who are you playing music to
in your mind?......the boy next door?.... ;D
Oh yeah, "us guys" like to talk a good story...but when it
comes right down to it, we all secretly harbour a soft spot for
some of the pop stuff as well because there is music out there
now and in the past that tugs at our emotional needs and we
do in fact relate to them when listening to it....on our own terms.
We just don't like to advertise it as much now do we?
Women love rock and roll and that's why we have, and have
had, sooooo many great female artists. They GET IT, just as much as we do!...(maybe even more)?
Need proof?...check out footage of the original Woodstock
gig.........nuff said............
Good question Blue...........
Thanks
