What in your CD collection do you listen to and think is way under rated. Tonight I was listening to Coverdale Page and can't believe this wasn't bigger than it was. What in your collection do you think is over looked and or under rated.

Damn Yankees- Don't Tread. I think it's quite a bit better than the first one, but because it didn't have the 2 singles pushed on MTV, it didn't get the audience of the first one.
Triumph- Thunder Seven. Don't know why this one gets overlooked. One of top 3 Triumph albums IMO!
Tommy Shaw- 7 Deadly Zens. Just another really good album totally ignored.
Nazareth- Expect No Mercy. Would put this behind only Hair of the Dog and Loud'n'Proud from their albums.
Foghat- Night Shift- While Fool for the City got all the props for the two big hits (Slow Ride), I have always felt this album was better top to bottom.

Timothy B. Schmit - Tell Me the Truth. Out of all his solo albums, this one is my fave. Seduce - Too Much Ain't Enough. Not sure why they didn't take off. A really good band with great songs. Warrior - Fighting for the Earth. Not one bad song on this CD.

Coverdale/Page cd was great, but they did a mini tour of Japan and no promotors bought into the Led Zeppelin copy their show was.

-UFO- is the top-most underrated hard rock band that I can think of. It all comes together artistcally in that band. Lyrics, chops and every little thing is super-cool and super-rockin'. I think their homeruns out number their stinkers by at least 10 to 1.
Pat Travers seems to be known for "Boom Boom Out Go the Lights" and "Snortin' Whisky & Drinkin' Cocaine". But those songs don't do much as samples of his excellent work. His albums are rich and thick with killer tunes that are as complex as they are rockin'.
I'll always be a die hard Angel City fan. Heavy metal with a touch of paranoia. Terrific!

UNIONThe band that featured Bruce Kulick (GFR; ex-Kiss), John Corabi (ex-Motley Crue) and Brent Fitz (Theory of a Dead Man). I have always championed Union's 2 studio albums, "Union" and "The Blue Room". Great songs and great songwriting with sounds combined from 80's and 90's hard rock/metal. Hard, melodic, bluesy, raspy, tight music influenced by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple (Hughes/Coverdale), The Beatles, KISS, etc, etc, etc... Not to mention very talented musicians and songwriters!!!

Seduce - Too Much Ain't Enough. Not sure why they didn't take off. A really good band with great songs. That was a really good band and a really good album. I had that CD in college....very raw. Very good sleezy power trio. I would say just about everything in Armored Saint's catalog....in partictular..'Delirious Nomad' and 'Raising Fear'. Great records and a great band noone ever really talks about. Savatage....especially 'Hall Of THe Mountain King' through 'Streets'. Tora Tora-both albums. Great bluesy and gritty hard rock band that new how to swing. John Norum's entire catalog. What a great guitarist and with a ton of great songs. He kind of picked up where early Gary Moore left off....although I would say Norum is more consistent. Black Sabbath-Born Again....it has a big cult following, and internationally it was a successful album when it came out...but was not that big in the states and for my money it was one of Sabbath's strongest albums. Helloween-'Pink Bubbles Go Ape'....I think is a great Heavy Metal record. Some people trash it and I don't get why. I think it has some of their best songs and while it may not be as good as 'Keeper Of The Seven Keys Pt. 1' or 'Walls Of Jericho'....it is up there. Badlands...all three albums. That band never got the credit they deserved. Arguably one of the best hard rock bands of their day. Great songs, great feel, great sound, great guitar player and great singer. I have to hand it to Jake....one of the reasons they broke up is because he refused to make the band more radio friendly Malice-License To Kill....another great Heavy Metal record that noone remembers. There is not a bad song on that album. Pretty Maids-Future World.....I really dug this record when it came out....the title track alone was worth the price of the record.

Then there is this very hard to find & underrated classic from Mutt Lange's first wife, Stevie, which was used for a body spray commercial in the UK. You had to buy the body spray in order to get the vinyl single. Steve Salas played guitar on this classic. In my opinion she out-screams Janis Joplin:

My collection?...haha...well, that's sad to begin with for the most part, but at least it's "my collection". Not much to choose from compared to most here...however, there are a couple of releases that should have faired out a wee bit better than I thought?
1. Fleetwood Mac - Mirage. I've always loved this 1982 release from the gang that came off the heels of an otherwise disastorous follow up album in terms of "Tusk". I find that the group got back to their original thoughts in regards to the Rumours release on this one...at least to some degree. There are a few gems on this one and considering the times, it doesn't surprise me that they were cast aside to some degree in favour of the new wave of music that was proliferating the airwaves at the time.
2. Jethro Tull - Broadsword & The Beast - To this day, I still don't understand why this release never achieved the noteriety that it fully deserves? Perhaps the old Tull gang gave up on them? For me, it breathed new life into a sound that always delivered...yet, with the addition of synth, and vocal problems that Anderson began to suffer during this period, was reason for, and tantamount to the groups demise?...with the exception of the "Heavy Metal" winner of the year in 87'?
3. Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Chance Granted this release was synth laden for the most part, I figured that it would have gone further than it did? The frirst 3 tracks rock and the 3rd is worthy of classic status in that it is yet another Springsteen penned tunes, that shows the group at it it's finest since "Blinded By The Light". Maybe it's just me, but these guys sure as hell know how to play their shit. They've come along way from "Quinn The Eskimo".
4. Walter Egan - Not Shy Here's a solo artist that had a "one hit wonder" sort of thing in the late 70's with "Magnet & Steel". What most folks that have not heard the entire album may realize, is that Egan was backed up on this 1978 release by the likes of Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood. From start to finish, this album is a classic indulgence to what the waning 70's were all about. Plus, the man himself, as lead vocalist on all tracks was no slouch. Very nice presentation of the music of the day back then.
Some nice musical hooks and great melodies here on this release...maybe cheesy to some, but to others of the era, quite worthwhile. "Sweet South Breeze" is really easy to handle and should easily find a spot on classic rock radio even today.
Thanks Kim

Diamond Head. The most underrated N.W.O.B.H.M ever. Shit all over Maiden, Saxon & Def Leppard. Fuck Metallica! THIS is how their 'Am I Evil..." should sound; Then there is Budgie. Another classic band that Metallica tried to rip off. Somebody needs to teach Lars Ulrich how to play drums; www.youtube.com/watch?v=54H3EUAzpVg

Pretty much sums up my sentiments on that album. Sure, maybe it's not their BEST album, but it hardly sucks either.
That goes double for "Chameleon". I think even more people trash that one cuz it's not really a Heavy Metal record......but it's still pretty good.
