1. Toussaint L'Overture- Santana 2. Fractured Mirror- Ace Frehley 3. One of These Days- Pink Floyd 4. Jessica- Allman Brothers Band 5. Transylvania- Iron Maiden 6. November Hotel- Mad Season 7. The Call of Ktulu- Metallica 8. Run Like an Antelope- Phish 9. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed- Allman Brothers Band 10. Acheron/Unearthing the Orb- The Sword
Honorable Mentions: Blues Instrumental- Jethro Tull Overture- The Who Absolution- Megadeth YYZ- Rush The Main Monkey Business- Rush Road Zombie- Social Distortion Ego, the Living Planet- Monster Magnet Fire on High- ELO Theme [For Ennio Morricone]- Muder by Death Hoedown- ELP Genesis Ch 1 V. 32- Alan Parsons Project Atom Heart Mother (side one)- Pink Floyd
Ok, Toussaint L'Overture has some back up singers at parts, but for the most part it’s an instrumental. In fact here are the “lyrics:” Los cueros me llaman (repeat) El timbal (repeat)
And Phish sings "Run like an antelope" at the end for about 60 seconds in a 10 minute song.

'Take It Off The Top' - The Dixie Dregs. Awesome track used as the intro / Outro for BBC Radio One's Friday Rock Show for 15 years!

Well, let's see here... Alan Parsons are good for 10 on their own in my opinion, but Pete would slay me for mentioning all of them... ;D So, here's my list...in random order...and includes some different stuff. 1. The Gold Bug - Alan Parsons 2. Motorcycle Driver - Joe Satriani 3. Funeral For A Friend - Elton John...(yes, I'm quite aware that it segues into "Love Lies Bleeding", but they are separate tracks). 4. Green Onions - Booker T and The MG's 5. Frankenstein - The Edgar Winter Group 6. Rattle and Burn - Jesse Cook 7. Last Date - Floyd Cramer (Call me crazy, but it's not all about rock and roll...sometimes it's simply the music). 8. Triumvirat - The Walls of Doom (From the album Sparticus, the one with the mouse in a lightbulb on the cover)...haha. Prog fans on the board should check this one out. 9. Miami Vice Theme - Jan Hammer (Hey!...I was young in the 80's and I liked it okay???)... 10. East St. Louis Toodle-oo - Steely Dan Easy to see, I run the gamut in terms of genres. Variety, I like that. Thanks Kim

If we are including Funeral for a Friend, then it would be my number 2.

I could do a whole other top ten of TV themes.

If we are including Funeral for a Friend, then it would be my number 2. I wasn't including pieces like this that segue into a lyrical song. Like TV themes, it opens up a whole new can of worms, but hey, you guys can do whatever you want with YOUR lists.

Good one! I don't think I've heard that before. I never realized how good Steve Morse (now with Deep Purple) was on guitar too be honest. Ok, so in this song there is no 500mph notes-per-second, but I just love that riff. Maybe it is nostalgia because of The Friday Rock Show but I just love this track even though I am not too big a fan of instrumentals. The track is taken from their 1978 album 'What If'.

I never revealed the #1 instrumental did I? Here it is: I wasn't giving my reasoning for the rest of the list, but I'll explain why this one is #1: Because it took a club-level, aging Metal band and turned them in an Arena filling, all-ages annual concert draw. Sure they changed their name along the way, but if that ain't an impressive resume for a single instrumental song, I don't know what is.

Thanks to you and Rush for the info many moons ago, I picked up The Christmas Trilogy and love it. I have to say however, that "Christmas Canon" is my favourite of the lot. Although, the older I get, and as Christmas just doesn't mean as much to me with the vast majority of my original family now gone, this one still comes back to haunt me every time I hear it. Thanks Kim
