Who in your opinion are the best new bands out today?
I'm going with Parlor Mob and Wolfmother. These two bands are the best new bands I have heard in a very long time. Pretty young in their recording careers so they are new.
What are yours?

Name the groups and artists that became famous due to tv shows such as the ones we see on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. Who then went on to make music and have millions of fans.
The two groups I can think of are David Cassidy w/ the Partridge Family and also the Monkees who started this bubble gum trend of popular music.

A: Follow the money. I think record companies had a revolution on their hands with the way they do business. Artists have professional level tools for recording and distributing without a "major label", minor label or any need for a record company at all. So record companies and radio now focus on the very, upmost top of the money producing acts. It's good for their business to ignore 98% of the music out there because costs associated with promoting them don't pay out like the top 2% and the effort to promote them costs the same. Ok so my question is, why do they choose Justin Bieber type music to promote over say Parlor Mob? I mean honestly they could sell anything to the public and teens. IF they put Parlor Mob or bands such as them on all the MTV shows and said "This band is cool, go buy their album. They are what you should be listening to" , they could make money off of them just as easily as they are with Justin Bieber. Plus they would also have better music behind the product they are pushing. I don't understand with all the talented acts out there, why MTV chooses the most sugary, bubble gum shit to push down teens and peoples throats. It comes down to who is in charge of the network and radio stations. Is Justin Bieber blowing them and not Parlor Mob for example to get their promotion and attention?

Why did 80's bands drop off the face of the earth after the 80's? What made radio, MTV, and record labels decide and say " We can't promote or sign that type of stuff anymore." Even though the bands still had good years in them and would have thrown out music that would have been able to sell and be popular if promoted correctly? Why do record labels, radio, and tv, treat music like its the "Flavor of the week?" We have bands out there that create better music, but for some reason top 40 radio and MTV ignores them. I have no clue why this is. Why would for example Justin Bieber be chosen as the next big thing currently, over a talented band like the Parlor Mob? Did ya know that MTV and Paramount pictures is currently producing a movie about Justin Biebers life to be released next year? Out of all the good artists and bands to do this for, they choose Justin Bieber? WTF? Discuss all of the above. Thanks

Why is it that it takes kids to turn into adults to realize that the music they listened to when they were younger was a waste of time and emberassing? What is different about myself is that when I was 12 I was listening the same rock bands I do today. So thats another reason I don't understand why these people are the way they are.
By the way, I find it funny that there are actually adults who listen to pop music. I mean we had adults dancing to Cindy Lauper and Culture Club in nightclubs in the 80's and now we have 30 and 40 year olds dancing to Lady Ga Ga and Justin Bieber. LOL Are you fucking kidding me here? And they tell us to grow the fuck up when we listen to Deep Purple and Motley Crue? Pot calling the Kettle Black as far as I am concerned.

Bucky I understand what you are saying but cmon lets get realistic. Achilles last Stand by Led Zeppelin is way more simliar to the hard rock music that is coming out today , such as Parlor Mob or Wolfmother.
The music you were into in the 70's was far different than what was coming out in the 50's. But like I said before , you pop in alot of the hard rock acts that are coming out today and you can really find alot of influence and simliarities in 70's era hard rock.
Hence why I am confused to why young kids nowdays are not listening to more of the classic bands that we love on this board. Instead they are choosing to listen to pop music that is on mainstream radio.

Why is Lady Ga Ga for example more popular than say Led Zeppelin amongst so many kids and people? Another act is Justin Bieber. He has over seven million fans on Facebook. You know how many Led Zeppelin has? 700,000!!! Now don't tell give me the excuse of that they are on the radio, on tv, and the "IN" thing. In todays day and age, kids and adults have access to all music from all decades, because of the internet and you tube. If one person can discover Led Zeppelin and like them the best than any person can discover Led Zeppelin. This goes for all music that came before this decade. There are even great bands coming out nowdays such as Parlor Mob and Wolfmother. Why they are not getting the attention Lady Ga Ga is getting, is just rediculous.
I just never understood why so many people are so ignorant when it comes to music and music history. It blows my mind.

Now that Kim and I have discussed what albums were the best, and what would be the perfect album, its time to list the songs that just made you go "Now that kicks ass!" after hearing them for the first time.

Def Leppard - Let it go, Comin Under Fire, No No No, Another Hit and Run, Billy's Got a Gun.
