I don't have a clue as to what "phrasing" is or what a "bridge pickup. LOL! Just for you KIMBA. Phrasing vs Chops. Chops refers to a players general skills at his instrument. So to say a player has great chops means he has technical skills that are usually brought about by intense practice and mastery of scales. Phrasing is how a player USES his skills. Someone with great phrasing seems to know what note to play where. Their solos are like a song within a song. They may lack some CHOPS(like Gilmour) but they more than make up for it with FEELING. Some players have both phrasing and chops. Van Halen and Randy Rhodes come to mind. Some have mostly phrasing ACE Frehley and Eric Clapton come to mind. Some have neither and I won't mention their names to protect the guilty. Bridge pickup vs neck pickup Most guitars are set up in a 2 pickup configuration. The bridge pickup, which is closer to the......well the bridge and the neck pickup which is closer to the....do I have to say it?......the neck. Each pickup can be used separately or together. Each one has its own distinctive tone. The easiest way I can explain it is this. The intro to Sweet Child of Mine is the NECK pickup. Slash uses this on most of his solos as well. It has a "sweeter" tone. Sort of a wooo-wooo sound as you play Much of the guitar solo in STRANGLEHOLD is also on this pickup. Most of the time lead players use the bridge pickup. It has a meaner, screaming tone. Think of solos like the end of FREEBIRD or Hot for Teacher. Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest uses this pickup almost exclusively. There are exceptions to the rule like a Stratocaster that has 3 pickups. In general, however even on a strat those 2 pickups are the most used.

ACE Frehley. He inspired me to pick up the guitar. I always thought he was the coolest player ever. Not one bad solo in his work. Then probably Iommi, Tipton, and Uncle Ted.
The list is funny to me. About half the guys on it I just really never liked. the other half are people I worshipped.
Jimmi Hendrix - I like about half of what he did and hate about half.
Jimmy Page - great songwriter. weak player
Eric Clapton - great soloist
Eddie Van Halen - One of the few shredders with good phrasing. almost made me quit playing
Stevie Ray Vaughan - would eventually have become the greatest ever. genius Ritchie Blackmore - like a lot of his songs. generally hate his lead work\
David Gilmour - one of the greatest ever
Randy Rhoads - great player. never really like him though.
Yngwie Malmsteen - he knows how to exercise his fingers. his phrasing is horrible Brian May - not a great player, but brilliant phrasing. great tone.
Alex Lifeson-very underrated. makes RUSH accessible. Most important ingredient to the band
Robin Trower - I used to know Bridge of Sighs and Earth Below front to back.
Slash - pretty good. needs to learn he has a bridge pickup
Zakk Wylde - Last of a dying breed. needs to hook up with a good singer post Ozzy to seal his legacy. How about Sebastion Bach?
Neil Schon - overplays on every song. Makes Steve Vai seem tasteful
Billy Gibbons -best tone, great phrasing, great songs.

Lately, Ronnie James Dio. Overall Bono. I just don't like to hear politics from celebs. It's their right, but I don't have to like it. Even Uncle Ted, who I mostly agree with politically needs to shut up at his shows.

Absolutely true. These days you can never be too safe. However I have to say that Al Rosa is more of a BAR than a "CLUB". The availability to more well known acts to small venues because of the Lack of interest in hard rock acts at the moment has made them affordable for small bars and such. You have to look at it this way. If POISON wa playing in YOUR local bar would they know what the F they were doing? Could the bar owners really know what they needed. Probably not. Proper security and the means to enforce it are really out of the local bar owners league.
Again, I don't think they were cheap. I think they were out of their league. Besides you cannot PLAN for a NUT. I have jumped the fence at many a show in my younger days......BIG SHOWS. I could have brought a gun to ANY event before 911. "Security" is non-existent at rock shows. You really think that handfull of burly guys is actually going to do shit with an unruly crowd? All suing this club is going to do is make it HARDER for the bands we love to get gigs.
Hell, one time my friends and I walked backstage at a KISS show, Creatures of the Night Tour. We went into their dressing room, handled their costumes, handled their guitars, took a leak in their bathroom, grabbed a cup of coffee and a doughnut, watched soundcheck.....all before ANYONE questioned who we were. Even then NOBODY did anything until finally they got tired of us just walking around and Big John Harte THREW US(literally) out.
We could have poisoned their food. Smashed or stolen guitars. Ripped off costumes. Killed them all. If we could do that at a KISS Arena show, shooting someone in a bar is a piece of cake. If NUTS were EASY stop, 911 would never have happened.

I just think that in general we live in our OWN LITTLE WORLD's and don't look outside what WE like enough. What brought me around was the music my KIDS listened to. They always liked what I liked for years because....well I crammed it down their throats. As they got older they of course liked some NEW stuff, RAP included that I just could NOT stand. At first I thought it was the end. Then something happened. I started to actually LISTEN to their music, instead of automatically dismissing it. I found that like in ALL MUSIC styles their were some things that I liked. I even found myself going to some shows with them of newer bands.
I go to a rap show and I see 1000's of HAPPY people. These people don't care if I like the music. In fact they don't care if ANYONE likes the music. JUST LIKE US! I have learned that even if I don't like it....if MILLIONS do it is good....somehow.....someway.
I can give examples of GREAT bands that I HATE!
ZEP YES BON JOVI SPRINGSTEEN THE CLASH
To name a few. I FRIGGIN HATE Zep, but I would never say that their fans were less knowledgable than me. I just don't like it.
I'm just trying to show that if music touches MILLIONS it is meaningful. wether or not YOU OR I like it.

selling more records has nothing to do with something being better. In that case rap is infinitely better than metal, and we all know that's not the case. Just proves that there are millions of misguided souls out there who have little to no musical taste, and wouldn't know a good guitar solo if it bit them in the ass. ;D Oh, and Dio's right on both counts by the way ;D Sorry to burst your bubble but RAP is bigger than rock and it will NEVER go away. I don't like the Sh*t......BUT it is better on some plain OR so many people would not like it. I just don't get it. I NEVER would cut down something so popular on the grounds that I don't like it. Like GLENN TIPTON said in many interviews. "I believe ANYONE successful serves a purpose. I look up to successes in ANY line of work. Wether it is sports, art, or music. I may not like it, but I still respect the success". The first time I read that quote it totally changed my life(corny eh?). It made me see that it doesn't matter how much I think something SUCKS or is GREAT. It only matters what the masses think that matters in entertainment success. If you believe that DIO would say NO if someone offered him a REALITY SHOW, where he would make MONEY you are delusional. He'd jump right on that BS. All "showbiz" types are the same. DIO is Mr Showbiz. DIO is slamming Ozzy's success. He is jealous, period. If he was secure in his own success he would have just said "I am proud to have been a part of Sabbath. Whatever Ozzy does is his own business." DIO would give his LEFT NUT to be as successful as OZZY. The reason he isn't, is his ego. Ozzy has always worked hard to have great guitarists with strong songwriting abilities in his band. He has allowed these people to have as much leeway and spotlight as they need to make them great. DIO the egomaniac has always had weaker, less talented musicans(up until Doug Aldrich) who would keep their mouth shut and KISS his ass. He has not allowed them enough leash to be creative. Aldrich gave DIO a little bit of a comeback. OF COURSE Aldrich was out after that. Couldn't have anyone else get any credit. PS. DIO is an American, born and bred. Born Ronald James Pardovana in Portsmouth, NH, on July 10, 1949.

Just because Ozzy is saleing most tickets than Dio does not mean that Ozzy is doing a better concert , most of the crap on Ozzfest I would not give the time of day to see! and look at all the Rap that is saleing now days not because it is good but because some people like stuff that is Crap...Ozzy should go back to doing solo shows and we would see a difference.. Actually if it is selling better it IS better, at least for the time being. To many times people think that what THEY like is BETTER. Sorry, but to millions more people Madonna is BETTER than DIO. To millions more people Neil Diamond kicks Judas Priests ass. To millions more people OZZY is THE symbol of metal. The DIO's of this world can piss and moan all they want but the SPICE GIRLS, at one time, were bigger and BETTER to millions of people. What makes us think that what WE enjoy is somehow "better" than what makes others happy. In this sense DIO is using the same logic that he supposedly despises in GWB. He thinks HE is smarter and knows better than Ozzy or his fans. He's a SNOB, no two ways about it.

All I can say is I sure as hell don't look to RJD for my political views.
In fact, who gives a *&^#$ what he thinks of anyone. I always love it when less popular "stars" slag those that are more popular. It always smacks of jealousy and bitterness. I'm no huge Ozzy fan....especially post Sabbath but RJD can't hold his jock strap. I can even say I might like the music of RJD better.....his career still can't hold a candle to Ozzy.
Dio is like all the people who say the Beatles are overrated. They were only the biggest selling artist in 2000........30 years after they broke up! Dumb ass.
These jealous bitches need to grow up. If a band sells more than you, they are more popular and most likely better. Dio can continue to play his 5000 or less seaters...hell last time he was HERE he played a 1500 seater.... while Ozzy sells out stadiums.
Face it Ronnie, OZZY blows you away. Heck MADONNA blows you away. I like your music but you are a pompous dick.
People with CLASS don't play this BS.
Sorry for the tirade but I HATE that kind of stuff.

The band I am in now currently does 30 Days in the Hole. HP is a good band. Seems they are one of those "those guys are okay" bands. Never anybody's fave but always a top 20 type of band.

If anybody could have made a CA$H grab it was KISS for the re-union in 1996. I took My wife and 2 boys for less than $200.
As far as bands "making" money, the BAND sets ticket prices more or less. They get paid a SET FEE, not by ticket sales. The PROMOTER has to take all the risk. So the PROMOTER wants to sell as many tickets as possible. In some areas tickets will be $200, but in the midwest I guarantee you they will be considerably lower.

$200 bucks! Sad. Especially for seeing a tribute band. I guess it beats shelling out $1000 for platinum KISS Seats, but at least then you get a stage tour, shirts, programs and a photo with the band.
I don't know what kind of money you guys make, but here where I live $10 an hour is good money. So 2 1/2 days pay to se them. No thanks.

I'm one of those that laments the arrival of the CD. I use them, but only out of necessity. I miss the days of going and buying an album and putting it on while sitting there reading every last inch of the cover. With CD's I barely look at it.(Most of the time it's to small for me to read). If cover art declines it won't mean much to me anymore. I think it's already dead.
