Mr. Speed Gene, I ain't a KISS fan so I don't know much about the music. I disagree about you saying they're alienating their hardcore fanbase, it sounds more like they're alienating the music. They're only in it for the money. Alienating their fanbase would be being unfriendly, not giving interviews, concerts and such. That's what I think anyway. They ARE alienating us....with stupid statements like Paul just made. Sure they have a right to do what they want......the fans have a right to say YOU SUCK! The hardcore fanbase held on through the Sh*tty 80's. Kept KISS ALIVE! so to speak. That 1,000,000 strong base KISS had was/is important. Sure they might not sell 5 million anymore, but they could count on that 1,000,000 of us that still believed......or at least remembered when the band was great. Guys dressed up like other guys. 10,000 greatest hits. Gene acting like a retard. Paul basically telling us that he doesn't give a f*ck. PLUS! No new music. Sure you had A**HOLE (which I was one of the few who like it). Paul talking out of his ass about how he can't get an album out.....BULLSh*t!! Uncle Ted Styx Journey Priest Scorpions All have put out new music and most of those bands were on shakier ground than KISS. They have turned into LAZY BASTARDS! Gene and Paul can downgrade him all they want but ACE is the only TRUTHFUL one. He said: "I thought farewell meant farewell. if we aren't gonna do new music, forget it" G&P have turned KISS into a joke that only dumbass yuppies go and see now....to be there. In 1976 you wouldn't have caught any respectable person at a KISS show. KISS was for US rabid, slobbering rock and rollers. Somehow they became the Beach Boys. 75 different members all pretending to be the real thing and all the dumbasses who go to the show think they saw KISS. THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY KISS, ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!

Just another 2 cents.
There was/is no bigger KISS fan than me. I may have a different view than others since I have been there since the beginning.
IMO KISS has never outdone the first 4 albums. Sure the next 4 were great but when image overcame the music it just wasn't the same. Wether it was management or the band somewhere they thought that the image was more important than the music. They forgot that they could write great, hard rock and roll.
Ever since ALIVE!II the band has been latching on to every FAD and trying to cash in on it. Each time making substandard albums. How many times do they make the same mistake.
The best KISS is the KISS music they made in those early days when they were a hungry band. No fads. No self conscience. No image songs. Just great rock and roll. After they started to try and "keep on top" they started to suck".
These days I could give a shit what they do. They HAVE alienated their hardcore fanbase. If you don't have that you have nothing because the hardcores are what keep you afloat during hard times.
I never really cared for the merchandise. However I don't care that they sell it, as long as they continued to provide the product I like......which is music.
Like I said if I can't take it no one can. Hell, I was gene in a KISS trib for years!
KISS is: GENE SIMMONS PAUL STANLEY ACE FREHLEY PETER CRISS

Ha Ha! Looks like I am just as confused as ever. I would suppose that I will like anything they have done. Just like KISS and Priest they have people that LOVE certain albums.....and those that HATE certain albums. Means they are right up my alley.

Probably KISS, from 73 - 83 they got a lot of play on my stereo.
After KISS:
SABBATH PRIEST AC/DC RUSH QUEEN UNCLE TED
all got a lot of play. I have HUGE diverse tastes though and in one sitting I may go from Nat King Cole to Dean Martin to Roy Orbison to Grand Funk to the Beatles to Priest to Floyd to and so on and so on and so on......

Brian Johnson was surely the most successful and long lived. I prefer Sammy to Dave but that's not the question.

I am going to pick the guitar player that impresses me least BUT who gets accolades.
I pick Blackmore. I like a lot of his songs, but his lead playing does nothing for me.

Tommy plays the parts faithfully (in fact for the early '90's reunion he had to TEACH Ace his parts), and in fact is a more accomplished soloist than Ace. How can Tommy be MORE ACCOMPLISHED? He's playing ACE's solos. If you are talking Black & Blue.......c'mon, that crap was second rate, even for hair bands. As far as Tommy "teaching ACE his solos" why the hell would ACE remember solos he hadn't played since the 70's. It also wasn't his "solos". More specifically it was the circular riff in 100,000 Years that ACE needed refreshed on. It wasn't like Tommy was showing ACE how to play DEUCE or SHOCK ME. Hell I would suspect that Toomy isn't too up on his B&B solos. Thayer is a pale imitation of ACE. If you can watch Rock The Nation and think that that is KISS I have doubts about your musical opinion. RTN is a boring snooze fest.

KISS is Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, ACE Frehley.
I have always thought that and will continue to do so. I continued to follow the band through all their incarnations but I never considered them to be KISS. I always called it the Stanley/Simmons Project.
KISS is one of those bands that came together by luck. None of them alone are great, but as a band they are Gods. The first 4 albums are some of the greatest good time R&R ever made IMO. Too bad they are all to stupid to keep it together. They needed a rest, simple as that. management pretty much pushed them to go on and on. From 73 - 79 they did 13 albums and toured constantly, stopping only to do albums.....which took them about a week!
Tommy Thayer is ok. He definately keeps the vibe closer top ACE than any other player in KISS has. Yes any of us would take the spot in KISS.
However it makes me sick to see Singer and Thayer up there. I went to the shows, they stunk IMO compared to the originals. I even like Eric Singer really well as drummer and a person. Those guys are collecting paychecks, simple as that.
For the first time in my life .....I am 43....I can say I don't give a shit about KISS. Many of the hardcore fans feel the same. Sad really. KISS has become a Vegas Lounge Act.

WOW! This should be GREAT!!!!!!! NOT!
Desmond Child sure can write hits. However he also ruined many of my favorite bands as well.

Yup, those well known jazz greats, Page and Plant. ;D ;D ;D ;D I never understood the Montreaux "Jazz" festival. It always seems full of blues artists not jazz.

America tends to pigeonhole everything and everyone. You never see a bunch of latinos at a Judas Priest show. CRAP! is it ok to say LATINO!? Man, I'm not sure where you're at, but I can guarantee that in both L.A. and here in N.M., there always have been a lot of hispanic dudes into Priest. And Ozzy , Maiden, Metallica, Pantera etc. So, they'd definitely be right up and center at any metal show that came to town. Nowadays the younger dudes are into that rap Sh*t for the most part, but go to any metal show around here, or in L.A. by any classic metal band, and yes they'll be there, rockin' out, even if they are older these days. Might be different in other parts of the country though . That's cool. We have a much smaller Latin population here in Ohio. On top of that they are mostly first generation. That may be the difference. Around here metal is a white thing for example: One time I went to see ACE Frehley at a venue that had two rooms. One room had ACE the other had ReggaeFest(no joke). About 3000 people were milling about in the foyer just talking and hanging out before the show. A guy comes out and says 'all those for ACE line up on the right, all those for Reggaefest line up on the left. It was so friggin funny ONE white on the left ONE black on the right. We all started laughing and busting the balls of the "traitors". ;D In all my years playing rock music I can count on ONE HAND the "non-whites" that have came to see any band I was in. Even when I was doing the KISS Trib thing in bigger cities. I have plenty of black friends, but music isn't something we agree on. Sports and fishing work for us.

Born and bred in England, though I have three other nationalities in my blood! Interesting. I would suspect then that racism is not BIG BUSINESS in England? Good for you guys. I think there is a little more "tolerance" there than here. I noticed one time when watching a Dolly Parton concert on HBO in London that there were punkers, metal fans, upper crust and blacks at the show. I thought WOW, that would be cool. Here if you like PUNK, you can't like country or metal. I never got that. America tends to pigeonhole everything and everyone. You never see a bunch of latinos at a Judas Priest show. CRAP! is it ok to say LATINO!?

Since you are NOT American I can understand your NOT understanding. For example this part of your original post: "I'm assuming, and probably correct in doiung so, that the person who wrote the article is white. Hence, they are mocking their own race in a sterotypical way." Here in America that is considered a VERY RACIST remark. How can you tell what race the person is by they way they wrote? You must be a racist! Dear oh dear... Any other Americans on here think that this is a racist remark? LOOK, I know it isn't a racist remark. However it WOULD be considered racist by many people who make "racism" their business. By the way, where are you from?

I am not American, so I have no idea what the deal is with the Cleveland Indians logo, nor am I able to view Mind of Mencia. That part of your argument is lost on me. But please don't shoot my posts down with capitalised derogatory remarks. I merely offered what I believed to be a reasoned argument as to why the above post was not racist. I still stand by it. I also acknowledge that on occasions, there can be a one-way street regarding racism, just as there can be with other prejudices. I just don't think this is an example of it. Stupid isn't it? A remark like "most black people have curly hair" is considered racist.....even though most do have curly hair. In fact the term black is considered "politically incorrect" in many circles. I don't even know what term to use. African American is most popular I guess. WHITE is ok to use though......even though I am an Irish/German/Indian(not from India, Delaware Tribe). I am not even white.....closer to pink IMO. Even sports teams. Like the Cleveland Indians. Native Americans are protesting that the LOGO of the team is racist. Same with the Redskins, Warriors and others. Even though the mascots were chosen because INDIANS are proud, athletic, strong and TEAMWORK is a huge aspect of their history. Of course some Indians will say I am RACIST because some of them are WEAK, doppy, meek and they don't give a crap about others. ;D I am sure the thing that most poor Native Americans want or need is the logo of the Cleveland Indians changed I am proud to be a INDIAN. Even though I am considered white.......even though I am pink......then again I am 1/4 Irish 1/2 German. Are you confused? I hope so. Now you know how it feels to be an American on this issue. I am all for equal rights, but it has come to the level of idiocy here. Just another NON-ISSUE that we Americans get all bent out of shape over.....that way the government can blind us to the REAL issues.
