Hey "NW," I for one am really looking forward to the planned release of the Soul SirkUS DVD, Live at the Filmore from"that" tour. Another album would certainly be sweet, have to say ...... Regarding the Journey tour, much as people have indicated here, on Journey's Back Talk forum as well as other forums, you're 100% right, if they play the hits - As they do, except for the variety they performed on the Generations tour ... - yes, most folks will go home happy, no doubt. I certainly would! Cozy Al

Hey, sorry I didn't get back with you folks sooner. I think the whole deal is a huge shame, but Journey is still a pretty big corporate event that - I'm guessing ... - they really couldn't afford to pull the plug on ....., going out with Def Leppard this summer has made this tour one of the, if not THE hottest double headers of the summer. Jeff is a right fit though I believe & will not disappoint, although it will surprise many "so called" Journey fans that are probably going & have no clue that Steve Perry is even out of the band. They see Journey on tour & assume Journey wouldn't be touring if Steve Perry wasn't a part of it. - This is a fact from individuals I've bumped into in crowds in the 6 years I've been here in the States. Generally people that have had kids & have had no time since the 80's to get to a Journey show & are amazed or have been amazed at Steve Augeri's performance. I think Steve was great in the band & I wish him all the best for a speedy recovery. Perhaps the pending release in the next few months of the 2nd Tall Stories album will be something to fall back on if coming back to Journey is not an option. I saw JSS with Soul SirkUS - The band were totally awesome playing for just under 3 hrs, covering so much stuff. Jeff in his solo spot teased the crowd - Perhaps trying to encourage Neal to come out & join in. - playing on the keys & singing, Faithfully, Send Her My Love, Lights to name a few. Remember, Jeff's been touring / playing live for a longer period of time than Steve has, as Journey pulled Steve Augeri essentially out of early retirement after Tall Stories fell apart. He was thrown into the furnace so to speak & did a commendable job. I still think he did great every time I saw him live with the band. Jeff remember has toured Solo gigs, Soul SirkUS, Talisman, SAS Band, Yngwie, Queen Tributes not to mention all the other side projects he's been a part of, so he's got the road background, without the long break that Steve had, had. Don't misread me here, they both have their merits & I've seen Steve Augeri perform more often live than I have seen / heard JSS live. All I'm saying is Jeff can do this & it will remain an awesome show ....., even with some lingering sadness of what's happened to bring him in. I wish I was going to see them in Detroit, so does my wife but since I've been laid off from my job, my wife has been cut back from full time to part time hours, we couldn't afford the tix for the show. In fact the only gigs we'll see this summer sadly will be the free shows in Sterling Hts by John Waite & Survivor, which will still be good. Who knows with Journey where this will go ..... Cue Steve Perry getting back into shape? Watch this space huh? It's as it's been said before here in a previous post, risky of Journey to do this mid tour but also very brave. Again, perhaps financially they had no choice. Enjoy the tour folks, I know you will & Steve - Rest up your voice bud, get rested & good luck with the Tall Stories new launch perhaps? Take care folks & keep rockin' Cozy Al

Hi folks, This just released ..... Cozy Al ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A statement has been prepared by Journey management: JOURNEY FORCED TO MAKE LEAD SINGER CHANGE ON NATIONWIDE TOUR "Jeff Scott Soto to assume JOURNEY lead singer duties starting on July 7th in Bristow, VA due to Steve Augeri throat infection. Due to a chronic throat infection, Journey's lead singer, Steve Augeri, has been forced to leave the band's current nationwide tour with Def Leppard. Jeff Scott Soto, who has previously performed with Journey guitarist Neal Schon, will assume the band's lead singer duties starting with the July 7th show in Bristow, VA. Steve Augeri's condition will be closely monitored by his physician to determine when he may be able to rejoin the tour. According to Journey, "Steve's been suffering with an acute throat condition since before we kicked off the tour with Def Leppard. We were hoping he'd be in well condition to handle the rigors of the road but unfortunately it appears to be a chronic condition requiring total voice rest. We all wish Steve a speedy recovery." For the latest tour dates, please visit www.journeymusic.com." Steve Augeri sitting out this tour is another chapter in this band's long history. Augeri was recruited into the Journey ranks in 1998 after Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain decided they wanted to move forward with the band without signature member Steve Perry. Augeri had to work with a fanbase that was polarized by the idea of a Perry-less Journey. There were those that remained loyal to Perry, but Steve worked hard at winning fans over and did so with his natural charm and likeability. Steve Augeri's is today regarded as much for being the 'good guy' as he is for being the 'new singer' and he now has a passionate and loyal following of his own. He truly is a nice guy and someone that has made time for fans and worked hard at overcoming being known as 'the guy that replaced Steve Perry.' Augeri's contribution to the band to date has forever been captured on the acclaimed, and quite superb, Arrival album and last year's more diverse Generations release. Steve and the band as a whole has had a grueling tour schedule to adhere to over the last few years. Steve has been suffering vocal problems since the outset of this current tour and no one can blame him or the band for this decision. A solution was needed sooner rather than later, especially with so many dates still to come. Steve has had a documented history of throat problems and one can only hope that on this occasion he overcomes these issues and returns to full strength. In the near future fans will be able to appreciate Steve at his very best when Tall Stories unveil their album of lost tracks from the early 1990s. Congratulations to Jeff Scott Soto for being chosen to fill the prestigious role as vocalist for one of this genre's most loved acts. Jeff is one of the hardest working singers on the planet. His work ethic and dedication to his live performance is unmatched. I should know…I toured with Jeff for 2 weeks in 2004 and was simply amazed at what went into every show. I have seen Jeff live 11 times now and haven't seen a better performer on stage. His energy is undying and his stage persona totally engaging. I know Journey fans will be saddened by Steve Augeri not completing this tour, but Jeff will continue the legacy with pride. Most regular readers of this site will know of Jeff and his reputation. On a personal note, I'm thrilled for Jeff – he is one of the good guys. Those that have followed him for as long as he has been in the business know what a hard working, sincere and honest guy he is. He is one to call it like he sees it and has earnt the respect of his peers and his fans alike. His interaction with fans on the message boards here is further proof of his efforts to be accessible to fans whenever possible. Those fans will be proclaiming that it is about time he was recognized for the talent that he is and I have no doubt that fanbase is about to get a whole lot bigger. Obviously some will know Jeff from his work with Neal Schon in Soul SirkUS, but there is no doubt Jeff will adapt to what is required to sing the Journey classics. Fans will be seeing a different show come Friday night. Jeff is one of the very finest rock vocalists out there, but he also has a soulful side and is greatly influenced by soul and funk as well and is a huge fan of Prince, the Motown sound and also Sam Cooke – a favourite of Steve Perry's. Jeff has been a long time fan of Journey's, so much so that he has covered Edge Of The Blade and Send Her My Love on previous records. See below for some audio and video samples so you can get to know Jeff. For those less familiar with the name Jeff Scott Soto, who is he and what's his background? He made his debut in 1984, fronting guitar hero Yngwie J Malmsteen's band for 2 studio albums and a live release. His main band through the years has been Talisman, a hard rock band featuring some of Sweden's finest musicians. Talisman has just finished recording their 8th studio album, due for release later this year. Another band Eyes were signed by a major label in 1990 and their debut album created quite a buzz before disbanding prematurely. Jeff also recorded 3 albums with German guitarist Axel Rudi Pell – 3 albums that remain favourites among both Soto and Pell fans alike. Jeff has recorded 3 solo albums – the latest of which is Lost In The Translation, which features a guest appearance from Neal Schon on the track Believe In Me. Lost In The Translation is a hard rock album through and through. His diverse abilities are showcased on his other 2 solo albums – Prism is very much an AOR release, while his solo debut Love Parade is a mix of funk, soul, R&B and rock. Jeff has appeared on several tribute albums including ones for Queen, Van Halen, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, The Sweet and Led Zeppelin. Jeff has also had a long running association with the guys from Queen. Roger Taylor and Brian May have had Jeff up on stage with them on two different occasions and has also been the headline act at the UK Queen Convention twice, with his last appearance captured for a DVD release. He also supplied some lead vocals for the movie RockStar. The Sammy Hagar written Stand Up being that movie's best known song. Of course this is a 25 year career summarized in just a couple of paragraphs. Jeff's website features an extensive bio and full discography for those curious to learn more. The decision for Steve to return home was obviously one of the most difficult ever made by the band and management. Bringing in a replacement frontman at this juncture is a big move and I give huge credit to all involved for the decision they have made. Jeff Scott Soto is a bold, but obvious choice. Jeff is one of the greatest frontmen I have ever seen. He will win over Journey fans and he will do a phenomenal job for this great rock band. I am hoping this move by the band will now calm the message board wars that have been raging for the last month or so. There are no winners in fans fighting each other and while there will always be some that resent this or any band's decisions, I for one hope that the decision taken this week will be seen as a positive step in getting the band back on track for the future. Hey Caljam - Well guess you're out to question certain things I say. Just sharing what is printed elsewhere ........ I love DP so anything they're doing, Hughes, Coverdale, Joe Lyn Turner is doing, I enjoy. Why? Well they're all classy muso's who still like to rock. Guess what Ritchie posted recently at his Blackmore's Night site? Check it out, it more than backs up what I said before: www.blackmoresnight.com/index2.htm"Most ridiculous rumor of the month! Truth regarding the upcoming Montreaux show is: Ritchie and his representatives have never been approached by the members of Deep Purple, their agents or the organizers of the Montreux concert. The only way that this office has heard of the show is through the fans who apparently are being mislead by false rumors. As you all know, Ritchie left Deep Purple in 1993- 13 years ago. Ritchie will not be making an appearance at the Montreux show. " Have a good one folks! Cozy Al

Hey folks, yeah, been a while since I've been on board but I've good reason & well ....., it's personal I'm afraid, but anyhooooo! This would be awesome, but I seriously don't believe can break the shackles Candice has put on Ritchie. He's totally tamed by both her & his mother in law! I'm telling you, much as I'd love to see this I really don't think he'd do it. Shame! You'd / Someone would have to kidnap him for him to escape those claws & allow him to think / speak for himself, on his own. You'll notice she always does interviews with him ....... Blackmore's Night's publicist - Candice' Mum, refused an interview for Classic Rock by Ritchie. The interview that was posted / ended up in there was I believe done by a freelance guy. That said, there's no reason why they couldn't go out on the road as Deep Purple Mk3 & let the other guys - Who I personally, equally enjoy! - carry on their thing. I recently read an interview in Classic Rock mag where Ian Gillan says, the current line up is the most successful Deep Purple has been since Machine Head. I say good luck to all parties! Ritchie / Candice, go ahead, prove me wrong, I dare you! Blackmore's Night will tour on way into the 2010+, unless someone frees him. Keep on rockin' Cozy Al PS Hey Ian & gang, come on back over to the States for some more dates, we miss Purple already! Let's face it, you've already lined up UK dates with Styx for 2007!

Hey there rocknut, think you're reading too deep but you're going to guess I said that right based on what you're saying. How I wrote rocknut? Lost me there, it's your screen / webname ...., I'd put whoever in " ......," whoever they were, "Nightwatcher," "Picklehead," etc, whoever. Listen, really wasn't trying to stir anything up with you matey. Chill fella! We're all rock fans together here, right! I was serious about the Wedgwood place, heck I always remember me old Mum's best china was ......., Wedgewood, hence why I thought it was also spelt that way ...... WOW! Uncanny about where you were at ..... I was born in Pompey, OK maybe not 100% accurate "born & raised" but certainly in that area! Waterlooville from 1 - 5, Emsworth from 5 - 24, Yapton 24 - 25, Waterlooville 25 - 27, Gosport 27 - 35, Copnor / Southsea 35 - 38, Auburn Hills, MI, USA 38 - 42, Sterling Heights, MI, USA 42 to present! I used to gig in bands from Chichester / Bognor across through Gosport / Pompey to Winchester, basically West Sussex to all over Hampshire in a few bands, "Just Before Dawn," "Medler" & "Full Tilt." It was fun stuff, now I've been doing it around Detroit area, way different, although with 2 new kids, less time for band! Hey Tyketto were good too, never got to see them with Augeri though, huge shame. Used to go to a few gigs down the Wedgwood Rooms, The Brook down the road in the "other territory down the road," if you lived locally there, you know what / who I mean! The Brook was a great venue, saw many fine bands there when they didn't play "The Wedge!" Used to see many gigs at the Rock Gardens, Southsea in the old days, Chichester Rock Society too, played a few gigs in Gosport too at The Railway, Barley Mow & Olivers in "Full Tilt." They were good old days! Listen, here's to a successful tour for Journey / Def Leppard this summer & I'm also looking forward to the issue of the lost Tall Stories album. Should be good! All the best everyone, oh & "mrspeedgene," put that tongue away dude! Ha ha ha! Cozy Al

Hey, wooah there gang, again, I'm sharing what I've read elsewhere! Oh & there should have been the 2 little words I missed when adding to forum, "IF TRUE" in there. It had been a long day, etc, etc, when I wrote it. 'scuse that fopar! There is some dude out there goes by the name of Deano who has been "slandering" the band for want of a better word, apparently for some time. The Swedish sound Eng., is apparently totally neutral, but obviously made comments that were picked up & spead everywhere ....., not cool. Bet he regrets that for real. Listen, I love the band, have been doing so since the first time they played the UK on the Departure tour, where they only did 2 dates, London & I believe Birmingham, but since the London date was the only one I was likely to be able to get to, the other date didn't stick in the old memory cells! Journey IS, HAS BEEN & WILL continue to BE one of my top five fav bands, no question. Steve Augeri's work in Tall Stories before Journey was great also. By the way "Rocknut," when the heck did Journey play the "Wedgie," Wedgwood Rooms? -Correct spelling by the venue themselves. Yes, I questioned it myself, many moons back as I'm from Pompey! Born & raised!!! I'll have to check with my old mate Steve Newman as he's just down the road from there still & he & have been Journey freaks for years! Would've loved to have seen that one, you lucky bugger! Anyway, I think Journey will possibly just ignore it & press on. Go to www.journeymusic.com they've just made a new announcement regarding the tour kicking off tomorrow! My wife & I wish we could be at the Detroit (Clarkston) gig, but we're seriously broke right now & Tuesday this week I got laid off from my new job as the company I was at restructured chopping 30 jobs from that place. My wife has just had her job cut from Full time to Part time so the US Automotive industry is really kicking where it hurts! Keep on rockin' folks! Enjoy the summer shows! Cozy Al

Have to say that this is indeed a sad state of affairs & as posted by Andrew @ www.melodicrock.com/ & Dave Ling (Classic Rock) on His Diary Webpage: www.daveling.co.uk/diary.htm Journey need to get their legal reps in order & post a reply ASAP ....., the world SERIOUSLY awaits! He's seemed great to me each time, although I've never yet seen him singing, from way up close, so I could never pass judgement. That said in all fairness, ALL big Ex name rock bands use either backing tapes or off stage musicians to compliment them these days & it's totally true. Sad to see on DVD's & the last time Toto toured the USA, that there were guys off the main stage playing keys. Many big name bands simply can't recreate the studio sould as good live, hence why the backing tracks. It's a fact of life these days, sadly we all need to get used to it folks & it is interesting that Deen, Neal, Jonathan & Ross all share some lead vocal duties these days to - I guess - rest Mr Augeri's voice. I for one hope they can prove it's not the case .............. All the best Keep on rockin' Cozy Al

A sad day today for Detroit's rock music listeners. If you liked a good mix of late 70's, all the 80's, some 90's & various bit's of this & that from 2000's, 106.7 The Drive was the place for you. WCSX 94.7 - Classic Rock has been hanging in there for ages, but really covers just that the "older" style classic rock. Sure you'll get Boston, Doobie's, Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Zep, etc, but in general they do tend to steer clear of much of the 80's stuff, like it's rare for them to play say Night Ranger, Poison, Winger & to be honest much stuff like Whitesnake, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Cheap Trick, Damn Yankees, Scorpions, Triumph, etc. The WRIF 101.1, well, it's great for real metal heads & of course occasionally they slip into "softer" stuff in their terms i.e. Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, etc as well as newer - i.e. 90's bands. - bands like 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, Fuel, etc. I know they'll play stuff by Floyd, Zep, Purple but you know the one place that really seemed to cover "ALL" aspects / era's of rock, although primarily 80's was THE DRIVE. I noticed it today as I was driving out around lunchtime, that it just wasn't the same & the guy broadcasting was saying that YOU the listener can go to: www.1067needshelp.com & tell them there what you want to hear on your new 106.7 radio station. I received an email today from the old 'Drive crew saying: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Pit Crew members.... It is with a sad heart that I write you this email... As of Noon today... The Drive is no longer... We had a pretty good run and gave our friends over at WCSX and WRIF a real headache over the last 4 and a half years... It has been our pleasure to serve you... to drink with you... to play with you... and to be part of your life! As you have found out today... this radio station is changing into something new... decided by you the listener... the whole city of Detroit will be voting on what will happen at 106.7 next... Be sure to log on to www.1067needshelp.com right now... and let your voice be heard! Thank you once again! The Crew Chief ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Drive was cool for hooking folks up with tix for all kinds of gigs, it seemed so much more than The WRIF or WCSX. So it's over, BUT if you live in the Detroit area & want to hear a lot of those sounds again, go to the website listed above & choose your 5 fav songs that sum up the style you want to hear. Perhaps we'll get something good again, who knows?! Keep on rockin' Cozy Al

It's James Christian's band now ....., unreal, but true. I loved this band, but what's odd is that Greg Guiffria is back, but I heard it mentioned ...., as only a guest on the album! Although there's also talk that he didn't play anything on the album! - Check out: www.melodicrock.com/Anyway, here's the blurb from James Christian's site. Cozy Al ** HOUSE OF LORDS ** **WORLD UPSIDE DOWN** Frontiers Records is pleased to announce details for the release of the brand new House Of Lords studio album entitled World Upside Down, due out May 19. A fresh line-up has added new life to the grandiose sound. Greg Giuffria makes his triumphant return to the band and he is joined by Jimi Bell on guitars, B.J Zampa on drums and Jeff Kent on bass & keyboards. World Upside Down is quite possibly the best CD House Of Lords has ever released" says James , who adds "this lineup is here to stay and this is only the beginning of many more great records from us. The music will speak for itself and I guarantee the fans of the classic House Of Lords baroque and grandiose sound of our early albums will be delighted!" The European release date is settled on May 19, while the release in Japan shall happen on King Records. The record will also be available via download on i-Tunes and other fine digital shops within one month from the physical release date. www.jameschristianmusic.com

Yeah, I love Quo too, "Three Chord Wonders" was another typical remark you'd hear back in old blighty! The other thing I used to get ripped about for liking Quo was, "But their songs all sound the same?!" This would of course come from people that only ever heard the hit singles & NOT the albums. If you like Quo, you know where I'm coming from, right Kim?! To be honest though, as Francis Rossi said many a time, "Why change what works?" The hit singles in the UK, Europe, Australia, etc continued to happen Top 10 / 20 pretty much always. Do admit I seriously thought they'd lost the plot with Marguerita Time ...., aaaaargh! But I can see the funny side. Would love to see them come play back in the States again. - They played here the year before last & were booked to play a pokey little hall (St. Andrews.) in Detroit & when my wife & I got down there, they'd cancelled the gig as Rick's voice was jacked. My wife had never seen them - US gal! Love ya Rhonda! - since everytime we get to the UK it's not early December, so we miss them. Oh & yes, she said the same about they sound the same when she borrowed a Best of to listen to, then she saw a DVD & thought, "I want to see them live!" Mike Paxman (Ex Judie Tzuke guitarist / co-writer.) who runs the Quo site, Produces them also nowadays says it's unlikely they'll be back over here as that last tour cost too much money, with little back in return, nothing to be honest. Ah well! Frank enjoy your listening & the same goes for anyone else! I guess the closest act to compare them to in the States - As Kim kinda hinted at ... - is ZZ Top, but not as rough sounding 12 Bar boogie, that's Quo! Clean sound, but what a live act, but you HAVE to see them on their own turf. i.e. The UK. Enjoy! Cozy Al

Well, have to say, I'm not a fan of American Idol although I guess if you were in a band as a singer & somehow you thought it's a way for a little publicity it's worth a shot, I'd say good luck to ya! Why not?! My wife loves it - Sorry luv, but it's true! I watch it if we're eating dinner & it's on or if there's a side interest in it. Well, I got word that Queen + Paul Rodgers were gonna be on it & so I was curious. It was ....., alright I guess, but when someone asks someone like Brian May & Roger Taylor, when they're giving up their rehearsal / soundcheck time before a gig, that they'd like to change Queen to REARRANGE the song structure as they jam with the band, I mean ....., come on, gimme a break! The folks / kids involved in competing in A.I. that are rock fans should really know better. Let's face it, how long have Brian & Roger been doing this?!!! Duh! Anyway, enough from me, there's apparently been some flak go Brian Mays way about what he said to Ace - One of the contestants. - when Ace asked them to rearrange how the song goes. Brain has made it clear he does NOT want the content from HIS site REPRODUCED elsewhere, so I'll honour that & say to those interested to go to Brian's site & read it for yourself. brianmay.com/whatsnew.htmlYou rock B.M. & the Detroit (Auburn Hills) show was totally cool & I'll never forget it! Thanks! Cozy Al

Hi all, Well, this confirmed from RJD's site about talk of Ronnie getting back into the BS camp. I saw on Blabbermouth that he was indeed writing with Tony Iommi again, but just a couple of tracks for the compilation & that's it. There will be box of Black Sabbath - The Dio Years released which sounds kind of cool if not everyone has all the stuff RJD did with them, that said, many folks may have liked Heaven & Hell + Mob Rules but weren't that bothered by Dehumanizer. Have to say I fall into that catagory myself & also love Live Evil. Anyway, alongside the news on the rumours + the box set, there's further details on the Dio upcoming European tour. Check it out Cozy Al ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ RJD Has No Plans to Rejoin Black Sabbath 4/13/2006 3:51:51 PM Just to put the Black Sabbath reunion rumors to rest, here is the inside scoop from Wendy Dio: Ronnie was in the UK to do promo for the new Holy Diver Live CD and while there, dropped in on Tony Iommi to kick around some ideas for the forthcoming box set, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years. We had previously mentioned that the two would be writing together as their respective schedules permitted. There are NO plans for Ronnie to rejoin Black Sabbath, and in fact, DIO is preparing for their European tour, which begins May 27 in Roselare, Belgium. Check the tour page for the entire schedule. Hey folks, Can't believe what I just saw in Meijer when I went out tonight, a "new" - To me! - Live Greatest Hits CD by Space Ace! I'd not seen or heard anything about this release & the copy I saw had a Ltd Edition 3D cover. FYI - It's available here @ Deep Discount, free shipping etc, for $12.97: www.deepdiscountcd.com/index.cfm?request=cd.cfm?upc=020286201021Turn out this is the more complete release of the Hammy O gig back in '88 as Frehley's Comet, previously issued as "Live + 1." Details: Personnel: Ace Frehley (vocals, guitar); Tod Howarth (vocals, guitar); John Regan (vocals, bass guitar); Jamie Oldaker (drums, percussion). Recording information: Hammersmith Odeon, London, England. On this 12-track live album recorded in London, former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley offers up an energetic set of his best-known solo songs, including the classic "NY Groove," from his well-received 1978 debut, and the sci-fi themed "Strangers in a Strange Land." Although the six-string legend isn`t backed by the full Frehley`s Comet ensemble, that unit`s guitarist (Tod Howarth) and bassist (John Regan) are on hand, making for tight-knit interplay among the veteran hard-rock musicians. Always looking out for his fans, Space Ace even works a few Kiss tunes into the set, most notably the raucous ode to hard drinking, "Cold Gin." Track Listing: Rip It Out Breakout Cold Gin Shock Me Rocket Ride Deuce Strangers In A Strange Land Separate NY Groove Rock Soldiers One Plus One Give It To Me Anyway Enjoy! Of course, if all you folks out there already knew this, 'scuse me! Cozy Al

Hey fug300, Well, I've heard before that Gary Moore was pissed off about Sykesy taking a band out on the road, calling itself Thin Lizzy led by John Sykes when he had only ever played on 1 tour & 1 album. You can kind of see his point of view & too be honest, I'm sure that's why Brian Downey & Darren Wharton ended up pulling out of the line up that Sykesy started putting back on the road. Gary Moore was in Lizzy around the start as I'm sure you're aware & of course with Phil on many occasions from Skid Row right up towards the end on Moore's later "rock" albums. It was a shame to me though that although Dare (Darren Wharton's band) played earlier in the day @ this event, that he did not get invited to play at the end of the evening. After all, he played on Chinatown, Renegade & Thunder & Lightning. Hear what I'm saying? Still, good to see Robbo & Eric Bell involved, Scott being involved was a dead cert from the start. Just think Brian (Downey) has just been playing pub gigs around Dublin these days, when he's not teaching drums, but I was pleased to see that he WAS a part of Gary's band that opened for BB King on his UK dates. - That tour has just finished. BTW - Check out Brian's site here: www.briandowneyondrums.com/Gary's is here: www.gary-moore.com/Robbo's here: www.robbo.thin-lizzy.com/Scott's is now really dead, since it just guides you to other sites: www.scottgorham.com/All the best & thanks for reading the review. You'll enjoy the DVD! Cheers & keep on rockin' Cozy Al

Hi y'all, How are you all doing? Well, I recently purchased Gary Moore's - One Night In Dublin, subtitled A Tribute To Phil Lynott. I had to get it, as I love(d) Lizzy & their music dearly. To me it's an essential part of British Rock History that deserves more global praise. Yes, it's easy for people to say, "well the guy (Phil) was an idiot. Fancy destroying your life when you have so much potential?!" Well, to all of those ....., "idiots" we can say that about how many others?! At the end of the day, let's all just appreciate the achievements Phil & Lizzy did make! Gary Moore had worked with Phil at various stages of both of their careers & it's always produced great results in my book, but anyway that's my 2c & here's my 2c on this DVD release. This DVD was a birthday treat for myself & well it arrived in the mail ..., on my birthday, yea! Anyway, got to watch it last night, really great. This all took place after the unveiling of Phil's statue earlier in the day on August 19th, 2005, in Dublin's Grafton Street by Phil's mother Philomena. The gig itself wasn't that long, but opener Walking By Myself is great then they kick straight into Jailbreak - Miss the old flash bombs Lizzy always had! - just playing as a 3 piece, Brian Downey (Forever Lizzy's Drummer), Moore & Jethro Tull bassist Jonathan Noyce. Same goes for next up, Don't Believe a Word, just the 3 of them, as Gary & band take it through the slow version it was on his Back On The streets release in '79, before ripping it up Lizzy style! I look at the track list on the DVD case to see what's coming next & see it's Emerald. There's no way he's gonna attempt this on his own surely? Nope, out comes an extremely different looking & skinny as a rake Robbo! - Brian "Robbo" Robertson for those not in the know! He played on Nightlife, Fighting, Jailbreak, Johnny The Fox & of course Live & Dangerous. He's credited also on Bad Reputation although there's lot's of rumours that Scott Gorham did the entire guitar parts himself (Robbo was otherwise ..., indisposed around that time!), guess the writing credits on that album say a lot. Gorham got loads, Robbo, not one! Anyway, back to this release & Emerald! The crowd went nuts & they rocked Emerald! Emerald when they hit the bridge / instrumental section, I just really felt the goosebumps / shivers, as Emerald just summed up Lizzy, pure & simple! Unique! Bet they thought they'd look over their shoulder & see Phil stood there, smiling no doubt Dennis The Menace style! - One of Phil's fav characters from comic book days as a kid. I'm certain he must have been with them that night. Robbo also does the harmony / 2nd guitar on Still In Love With You up next, which he was essential to on Live & Dangerous. Next up, "We'd like to call out another guest. This guy was the other guitarist when I was last in the band. Scott Gorham!" Crowd loved it again & they launch into Black Rose. Just awesome! Then follows Cowboy Song / Boys Are Back In Town, good run through & wraps up the set ..... I know, just 8 tracks ..... Well don't despair, Gary Moore then announces, "I'd like to now call out the ONLY guy, so Phil said, that could play this next song right. Eric Bell!" Whiskey In The Jar follows. They can't harmonize on this one vocally by the way. Just sounds bad on the chorus & I don't think Gary Moore did too much rehearsal with these guys before this gig, which becomes apparent in a couple of spots but not to take anything away from the fact, this was meant to be a tribute to Phil. Shame, I wish Gary Moore had said something like that somewhere. Although after Whiskey, he does start playing a brief excerpt from Old Town (Dublin), about how, "the place just isn't the same now that you're not around." They then kick into Parisienne Walkways, back to the 3 piece. As they end it, Gary Moore twists a snippet of Happy Birthday out of his guitar. It would've been Phil's 56th birthday in the next day or so. That's it, they're done. As I say no real gripes, perhaps they didn't really need to say that the evening was dedicated to Phil & that the music did the talking. I just felt that perhaps it would've been nice to have a said a little more before they started a Lizzy set & perhaps Philomena should've joined them onstage around that point too. Just my 2c, otherwise, I loved the rest of it. Good to see those guys all there doing the Lizzy songs again. Interesting to note, Scott, Brian & Eric Bell all looked their respective ages as they came out. Robbo looked like he'd just got out of a bad heroin or something addiction as he was so skinny & drawn. Still good to see them all doing it for Phil. Gary Moore looks like he never really ages, the scars perhaps, he's dyes his hair maybe, just like he's put on a few pounds & that's it. Maybe the time he spent with Lizzy was enough & he knew it would make him old. Perhaps Phil made all the others age the way they have, all worried about how much longer his body would be able to take the abuse. Nice touch from Gary Moore in the DVD sleeve notes though, he said to Dave Ling (Writer): "The great thing about Phil was that I could always go to him," said sadly. "If I was confused about the music scene, he'd always put things in perspective. He'd go, "Punk? Ah, it's the same old Sh*t in different clothes." You know what? I still really miss that." Philip Parris Lynott - Much missed by all of us! Cozy Al

Hey, got mine now! Woo hooo! It's a great document of this current line up of Foreigner, Kelly does a fantastic job up front! Just wonder how long the Rock 'N' Roll Mercenaries will stay with Mick Jones? The current line up of dates in the US is pretty significant though so who knows? Here's hoping! Keep on rockin'! Cozy Al
