Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has confirmed that he and Steven Tyler will play The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Friday, January 20.
The pair will be joined by bassist and American Idol judge Randy Jackson for the performance.
Perry confirmed the information via Twitter last Friday, in response to a fan inquiry.
Joe also said he’ll be on the Tonight Show again on Monday, January 30, to help promote Amnesty International's latest music project, "Chimes Of Freedom: The Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International."
Perry recorded Dylan’s "Man Of Peace" for the compilation.
"Performing 'Man of Peace' on Jay Leno Jan 30th for Amnesty International with some friends @rudytanzi Paul Santo & Dave Hull," tweeted Joe.
At a recent Idol press conference for the Television Critics Association, Tyler told reporters that Perry was due to join him in Los Angeles this week so that they can continue working on music for the new Aerosmith album, expected later this Spring.

Chickenfoot and Van Halen have released new singles within twenty-four hours of each other. Whether this happened on purpose or by coincidence, it’s going to be nearly impossible to avoid comparing the tracks, so let’s get right to it, shall we? Earlier today (Jan. 10), Van Halen officially released ‘Tattoo,’ the debut song (and video) from ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ their first new album with original lead singer David Lee Roth in nearly 30 years. The track is a somewhat surprisingly laid-back riff rocker, but features no shortage of either Eddie Van Halen’s guitar wizardry or Roth’s unique lyrical madness. Meanwhile, last night founding and former VH bassist Michael Anthony and second singer Sammy Hagar, along with their Chickenfoot bandmates Chad Smith and Joe Satriani, kept merrily rolling down their own successful path. They issued the moody, textured and rootsy ‘Different Devil‘ as the follow-up to [Ultimate Classic Rock Reader's Poll] your choice for Best Song of 2011, ‘Big Foot.’ (We’re pretty sure ‘Three and a Half Letters’ was not an official single.) So, have Van Halen emerged from their long slumber to prove themselves the dominant force in this poll? Or has Chickenfoot produced better results by keeping busy both in the studio and on the concert stage over the last few years? Listen to both tracks below and vote for your favorite! You can vote in the Ultmate Classic Rock poll here ultimateclassicrock.com/chickenfoot-vs-van-halen-readers-poll/

Van Halen, ‘Tattoo’ – Song Review by: Matthew Wilkening Yesterday Van Halen
Van Halen‘s new single ‘Tattoo’ has arrived, and it’s a blend of old and new styles that’s sure to stir some fan debate and heighten curiosity about the band’s upcoming album ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’
The first song to emerge from the new record, ‘She’s the Woman,’ as debuted at the band’s New York City club show last week, was taken nearly intact from the band’s original 1976 demo tapes. ‘Tattoo’ has a clear link to an old unreleased VH track as well, sharing the main riff and basic verse structure with ‘Down in Flames,’ which according to the Van Halen Encyclopedia, was performed several times on the band’s 1978 tour.
The 2012 version, ‘Tattoo,’ has brand new lyrics, a fresh chorus and some more modern touches. To be clear, that’s “more modern,” not “modern.” The whole song has a bit of a laid-back ZZ Top vibe, although the light backing keyboard bed and super-clean production puts us more in the territory of 1990′s ‘Recycler’ than, say, 1979′s ‘Deguello.’ The effects on Roth’s vocal intro and chorus sound more like something off a late-era Cars record.
(Can’t believe we went this far without mentioning: Eddie sounds typically fantastic throughout, of course, with a classic and very traditional “in case you forgot…” solo highlighting the song’s back half.)
Overall, the song seems a slightly odd, relaxed choice for the first single and lead-off track on such a momentous album, although there’s a definite “grower” appeal that comes up on repeated plays. Some of us old-school fans were undoubtedly hoping for something a bit more aggressive and raw sounding, but this is after all the single so hopefully (and presumably) we’ll get those kicks on other tracks.

While the world may have damn near exploded with joy upon hearing the news that the architects of heavy metal themselves Black Sabbath are reuniting to record their first studio album with original frontman Ozzy Osbourne since 1978, a sad update arrives to darken the mood: guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with lymphoma.
A statement just released on the band’s Facebook page reads:
“With the news that Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, his bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time. Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan–the “IRON MAN” of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.”
“This comes as Black Sabbath–Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)–are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the UK to continue to work with Tony. Further information will be released as it becomes available.”
In addition to recording and releasing a new album, the band plans to support their new music with a massive 2012 tour – but no word yet on how Iommi’s health will limit those plans.
Legendary producer Rick Rubin will produce the album, which would be the first with the original lineup since 1978’s Never Say Die.
This Rubin quote from the same press conference is certainly encouraging: “I’ve been in the room while they’ve played, and they sound remarkably like Black Sabbath. It’s inspiring hearing what’s coming out.” Or, as bassist Geezer Butler put it, “It really is back to the old Sabbath sound.”

The one thing that’ll make the Van Halen reunion with David Lee Roth work and last beyond the band’s upcoming tour and new album is if the principals are having a good time. Well, judging from last night’s beyond intimate gig at Café Wha? in New York City, that won’t be a problem.
David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen and the rest of the band had ear-to-ear grins throughout the entire set. They’d have needed plastic surgery to remove the smiles from their faces.
Café Wha? is a charming, hole-in-the-wall club that has ties to DLR from his youth. Despite the cramped quarters, VH didn’t disappoint. Not for a second. We’re still marveling at how the band fit on that tiny stage, since it is designed for solo acts or up and comers. But intimacy was the key, as the band even walked through the packed-like-sardines crowd to get to the stage. To say that Van Halen were kicking it old school would have been an understatement.
They band soared through a 11-song set that brimmed with hits, save for the “new” song ‘She’s the Woman’ that was terrific and reminded us of those classic first three VH platters. In fact, ‘She’s the Woman’ is an old ’70s demo that’s been revamped for the band’s upcoming album, ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ which drops on Feb. 7.
You know, another key element of the VH reunion working is continuing those signature harmonies that used to be sung by former bassist Michael Anthony. Well, his heir apparent Wolfie Van Halen is doing a rad job in his stead. If you were up close enough, like we were — not to brag or anything! — you could see DLR mouthing ‘perfect’ to Wolfie as he played quite often throughout the set.
Before launching into set opener ‘You Really Got Me,’ Roth welcomed the audience, consisting mostly of media and press types, to “Occupy Van Halen,” and received a chorus of cheers.
Next up was ‘Running With the Devil,’ ‘Somebody Get Me a Doctor,’ ‘Everybody Wants Some’ and the aforementioned ‘She’s the Woman.’ When Roth, who is a hoot to watch as he entertains himself, went off on a bit of a tangent, recalling his days as a NYC EMT, Eddie would teasingly strum a few chords as if you say, “Move it along a little, Dave.”
The second half of the set included ‘Dance the Night Away,’ ‘Panama,’ Hot for Teacher’ and ‘Ice Cream Man,’ during which Roth shouted out his 92-year-old uncle Manny, who was smack dab in the middle of the crowd. The gig ended with ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love’ and an “encore” of ‘Jump.’
The band sounded tight — Alex Van Halen’s drumming anchored the set and as a whole and VH played on point throughout. The keys were a little too loud on ‘Jump,’ but that’s no fault of the band and that was the only time things weren’t pitch perfect.
This show certainly restored our faith in the mighty Van Halen and indicated that the reunion is not a cash grab and that there’s still magic in the band.
It’s going to be a fun 2012 with Van Halen back at the forefront of rock.

Like Equinox I hope I'm wrong but I don't have high hopes. I"m going to try and go see them whether the new album is good or not. The last time I saw them Eddie was all fucked up and Sammy had to often carry the show. From what I've read though at least Eddie has gotten himself together and can bring it live again and it would be really cool to have another good VH album.

For me.... i'd really like to see Rush this year. Never have. Their on my concert bucket list. Also would love to see Chickenfoot. Plus Shinedown has a new album & tour coming out in the spring & I'd love to see them live again. On a personal rock & roll note... I have a new band i'm in called Slobirn. I'm looking forward to gigging with this great band. We play our first gig January 14th at a private party & i'm chomping at the bit to play! I'm going to go see Shinedown too. I've seen them 6 or 7 times now and they're always fun. I got into Shinedown because Silvertide opened for them a few times and I would go for Silvertide but stick around and ended up really liking shinedown too. Shinedown released their new single "Bully" the other day. Not bad.

Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour has denied the band are reforming their classic line-up to play at this summer's Olympic Games in London.
A report in the London Evening Standard earlier today (January 3) claimed that the band were set to reconvene for their first official performance since Live 8 in 2005. Paul McCartney was also said to be in line to appear at the opening ceremony spectacular.
However, a representative for Gilmour has contacted NME to deny the story, commenting: "David Gilmour can confirm that there is no truth in recent media speculation about Pink Floyd re-uniting to perform for the 2012 London Olympics."
In May 2011 Roger Waters, Nick Mason and David Gilmour briefly reunited onstage during Waters' 'The Wall' concert at The O2 Arena in London, though he later dismissed the incident as "a one-off".
Waters was joined by Gilmour for Pink Floyd song 'Comfortably Numb' while Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, later joined the pair onstage for closing track 'Outside The Wall', with Gilmour playing mandolin and Mason on tambourine.

Van Halen returns next Tuesday with “Tattoo,” the first single from their forthcoming album.
The VHND reports that one week from today, Van Halen will release “Tattoo” as the project’s lead track.
The band’s first album with David Lee Roth in 28 years arrives February 7 – still no word on the record’s title.
The site also says the 2012 Van Halen tour starts in February, with opening night happening in Louisville, Kentucky.
The full list of tour dates for the first leg of shows should be revealed soon - anytime between now and when the tickets go on sale January 10.
Some media are getting an advance preview of VH 2012 as the band plays a private show this Thursday at the 250-seat Café Wha? in New York City.

Pink Floyd are rumoured to be reuniting this summer for the London 2012 Olympics. (Apparently to play during the closing ceremony, not to compete in the beach volleyball event.)
Today’s London Evening Standard newspaper quotes an unnamed Floyd ‘insider’ as saying:
“It’s long been made clear it would take something very special to get Pink Floyd back together again and it doesn’t get any bigger than the Olympics.
“They have been a major part of the nation’s culture over the past 40 years and it will be very fitting that they’re involved when London is on show to the world. It’s hoped everything can be confirmed in the coming weeks.”
David Gilmour and Nick Mason briefly joined Roger Waters on stage at London’s O2 Arena last year during the latter’s The Wall tour. Paul McCartney is already nailed on to play either the opening or closing ceremonies.

I don't know if anyone has hard of either but this group with an exceptional guitar player called Van Halen has a new album and tour coming up. So does this band of codgers who's guitar player is no slouch himself. Black Sabbath with a tour and album. I hope to catch both on tour this year. I'm also hoping to see Chickenfoot again. The only definite plan I have so far is Black Stone Cherry Feb. 1st. I don't know if I can afford it because tickets are pricey but hoping to put something together for Roger Waters at Wrigley Field. ...and as always will be attending the world's largest music festival Milwaukee's Summerfest. Oh yeah and ZZ Top is supposed to come out with a new album in 2012 and I hope it's good.

After weeks of teasing, The Grammys failed to deliver on their promise to have Van Halen on Wednesday’s Nominations Concert special. The show, designed for sponsors, featured the announcements of the 2012 Grammy nominations, as expected, and included performances by Lady Gaga, Sugarland, Jason Aldean, Rihanna (on tape), and others. Reuters.com reports The Recording Academy Pesident Neil Portnow declined to confirm speculation that Van Halen was the band in question, but told reporters on Wednesday that those concerned were not ready to go public. “In the world of creativity, everything is fluid," he said. "In the process of discussions that we had been having with an expectation that perhaps we would be at a point tonight where the artist involved and we, moving forward, would be ready to announce , they weren't quite at that point. So it's live television, we go on to the next act. It's rock and roll and so on. That being said, we were genuine about the intention and we are genuine about the discussion."
Whatever happened behind the scenes for this promo to fall off the rails, it’s likely a blessing that VH didn’t make the show, and you’d have to wonder why anyone would have thought that was a good idea in the first place.
VH would have stuck out like a sore thumb on the tv special, the lone dinosaurs in a world led by Lady Gaga and other pop singers.
When the Grammys released their VH tease weeks ago, I immediately had flashbacks to the original reunion fiasco caused by a similarly ill-scheduled appearance on the MTV Awards back in 1996.
After recording two new tracks for the “Best of Volume 1” album, a reunited David Lee Roth and VH stepped out on stage to a rousing, standing ovation, as the band plugged its forthcoming release.
But, it wasn’t long before old personality clashes returned to the surface, as Roth and Eddie VH ended up in an argument backstage and the full reunion of the original VH was dead in the water, with fans having to wait another dozen years to see 3/4 of it come back to the surface. It’s now been 15 years and there’s no sign that the full reunion – including bassist Michael Anthony – will be happening any time soon.
We may never know if this week’s publicity stunt was just wishful thinking on the part of The Grammys, or if the band was really in place to appear. Given the timing of the show versus VH’s rumored 2012 release schedule, it’s probably best things didn’t work out this time.
However, fans don’t like being misled and, for that, The Grammys should issue an apology for leaking news that may have not been confirmed in the first place.
