Pink Floyd are rumoured to be reuniting this summer for the London 2012 Olympics. (Apparently to play during the closing ceremony, not to compete in the beach volleyball event.)
Today’s London Evening Standard newspaper quotes an unnamed Floyd ‘insider’ as saying:
“It’s long been made clear it would take something very special to get Pink Floyd back together again and it doesn’t get any bigger than the Olympics.
“They have been a major part of the nation’s culture over the past 40 years and it will be very fitting that they’re involved when London is on show to the world. It’s hoped everything can be confirmed in the coming weeks.”
David Gilmour and Nick Mason briefly joined Roger Waters on stage at London’s O2 Arena last year during the latter’s The Wall tour. Paul McCartney is already nailed on to play either the opening or closing ceremonies.

Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour has denied the band are reforming their classic line-up to play at this summer's Olympic Games in London.
A report in the London Evening Standard earlier today (January 3) claimed that the band were set to reconvene for their first official performance since Live 8 in 2005. Paul McCartney was also said to be in line to appear at the opening ceremony spectacular.
However, a representative for Gilmour has contacted NME to deny the story, commenting: "David Gilmour can confirm that there is no truth in recent media speculation about Pink Floyd re-uniting to perform for the 2012 London Olympics."
In May 2011 Roger Waters, Nick Mason and David Gilmour briefly reunited onstage during Waters' 'The Wall' concert at The O2 Arena in London, though he later dismissed the incident as "a one-off".
Waters was joined by Gilmour for Pink Floyd song 'Comfortably Numb' while Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, later joined the pair onstage for closing track 'Outside The Wall', with Gilmour playing mandolin and Mason on tambourine.
