Not super into this era of Skynyrd as really Gary is the only one left from the original band if you are not counting Medlock being the original drummer. But I dig classic LS. How is Gary on this release. I always liked his style even though he was more of the "slo hand" of the band. Always thought Ricky Medlock was a kickass player. I love old Blackfoot. Everyone sounds good on the live release. Gary plays his solos well with his usual tone. I actually only listened to the thing twice. Second time, I noticed how lame the drums were. NOBODY plays with a full drum kit anymore. It's kickdrum, snare, rack tom and floor tom. And, yeah, a good drummer will make it work and Michael Cartellone is a great drummer and, I'm sure most folks don't have any problem with his drumming here. I don't have a problem in his playing, it's just that, as an avid listener, I can REALLY tell that it is a totally stripped-down kit that he is playing. This is LYNYRD FUCKING SKYNYRD for crying out loud and my band was able to get better drum sounds with a bigger kit in my fucking basement! When you have 3 or 4 rack toms and a floor tom or two recorded in stereo the drum rolls and fills sound incredible! When it's only a single rack tom, the rolls and fills are there, but, stereo or not, it just sounds flat. I dunno, I just found that aspect of the sound disappointing.

I hate to think of Bobby hanging it up. But I will agree— in the post original band era— the 2002 line up was the best. Russ and Bobby really were perfect. Dave and Bobby not so much, but — It was Dave!! I wish Bobby would bring Russ back in. I miss Phil. But Jimmy Elkins is a great next step. And I’ve met him and have gone to Bike Week with him— he’s a great man. Who knows? Maybe it’s time for everyone to hang it up . Thanks for your post. I’m glad to know people care enough to consider these things. Thank you, Sonny for joining in the conversation! I would love to see Russ back in the band! Saw some youtube clips of him solo and he's a great guitar player and very good singer as well! May be the guy to sing a Jimmy Farrar song or two! Don't know why he ever left the band, but judging from his solo performances and what I saw of him with Molly Hatchet, I wonder if he thought he should be doing more of the leads (If so, I would agree with him!) Yeah, I love Dave Hlubek and I loved the fact that he rejoined the band, but the sad fact is that the band became sloppy live when Dave came back.

Newly pressed LPs cost way too much. Some don't even have the gatefold graphics included. Also they are heavier than old pressed LPs, they can still be scratched...CDs will always be my choice. Good for you Jesse for finding a car with a cd player, I'd never buy a car without cd player in it. I was always led to believe that records sounded better than CDs. Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but one should make sure we're comparing apples to apples! The old stereo sounds systems of record player yore were/are much superior to most CD players you buy these days. When my Grandmother passed away last Summer, I inherited my grandparents' stereo from the late 70's/early '80's. It has auxilary jacks that I can hook up a CD player or iPod to and it sounds INCREDIBLE! First time I hooked it up, I literally sat on the floor in front of the speakers to listen! I felt like a kid again, the music was ALIVE! Today's stereo systems are made to play music, THIS one was made to LISTEN to music! CDs, iPod, even cassette, doesn't matter. Whatever I have hooked up to this system sounds awesome!

Its funny with bands. People still buy the CD's at the merch table at our shows. I few years ago we played in Wilmington and a girl approached us....said she only had $5 left in cash but really wanted the CD....she was younger to....so we gladly gave it to her for that. She obviously was going to actually listen to it....but I often wonder if many people buy the CD's for local bands as more of a way to show support and never really listen to them. Congrats on finding a vehicle with a CD player! I intend on keeping my car for a while....I leased it new in 2012 and then bought it in 2016 so I still have 2 years of payments left. I intend on keeping it well after it is paid for. I hate having a car payment. I hope the CD player lasts as long as the car.....hahaha. Honestly, I've bought Cds from local support acts at concerts that I've never listened to! I do it because I thought the band was cool and wanted to support them. At the time, I really wanted to hear the CDs, but once I got it home, I'd be like, "nah". I still have them, maybe I should dig them out and pop them in my stereo some time! I did end up getting a Nissan Rogue. The thing is great! I bought it on March 7th and I haven't filled it with gas yet!

Skynyrd also released the single "Last Of The Street Survivors" recently. I only listened to it once. Maybe I should give it a few more listens, but I wasn't impressed. It's not bad, but, considering it's been, what, 8 years, since they released any new material, I felt they could do better..... and the fans deserved better. Again, it wasn't bad, just kinda meh. People on facebook and youtube were raving about it though, so maybe "meh" is enough for the fanbase to gobble it up. i'm a huge fan and have been a huge fan of the post-crash version of the band, but this song didn't quite have the "it" factor IMO. Maybe I just need to listen to it again.

I got the new "Last Of The Street Survivors: Farewell Tour" Live cd from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Pretty damn good! Not "one More From The Road" or "Southern By The Grace Of God" good, but it is good! Double Cd, pretty much everything you'd want to hear from them in a live sitting. Al performed well. They do a few things to change up some of the songs, that... well, I wouldn't have done, but, whatever. If this is the last live album we get from Lynyrd Skynyrd, it is a proper send-off. Johnny's vocals are probably the weak point, but A) they are still pretty good, he just sounds nothing like Ronnie and B) To compare him to Ronnie is a little bit unfair at this point. I mean, we're comparing a 60 year-old Johnny Van Zant with Ronnie Van Zant in his 20's. Musically, the band is spot on! Some great guitar tones, solos are played close to the vest, but with enough room for the guys to add their own, spur-of-the-moment flare to them. Bottom Line: Really good album, must have for the Skynyrd fan...... casual fans can stick with "One More From The Road" and "Southern By The Grace Of God". I'll go with a strong 4 out of 5 stars on it though.

I'm not saying it's not a serious threat....... BUT...... I feel like certain politicians have been and are just a little too quick and a little too okay with using their power to clamp down on individual freedoms. Is it all justified? I dunno, maybe. I don't think there was ever much debate.

I think I found my new vehicle! The Nissan Rogue still comes with a CD player! I was looking this topic up on line and saw many comments that "you shouldn't buy a vehicle based on whether or not it has a CD player". Fuck you! If I'm spending 20-25 grand plus on a vehicle, I wanna be able to listen to my CDs in it dammit!
On a related note, my band, The Shambles Band, has completed basic tracks for 9 songs for a new CD's worth of music...….. I wonder if anyone will still have Cd players when we finish it.

Yeah, I really felt the 49ers could've won had they just kept running the ball and they didn't. It was like they outsmarted themselves or something. Chiefs receivers got so wide open that I was beginning to think the 49ers D-backs were paid to tank the game.

I so was not in the mood for the Super Bowl this year, but I got the pick right. After starting this postseason 1-3, I came back to a 6-5 mark! Yay me!

So, Chiefs coach Andy Reid is a chronic choker in big games, but 49ers offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was part of the ultimate chokejob in Superbowl LI with the Falcons. Both teams got off relatively easy in the post-season: The Vikings were no match for the 49ers and, despite having the same record, neither were the Packers. Packers just didn't match up well with the 49ers, having been destroyed in the regular season as well as the Championship game. The Texans also didn't match up well with the Chiefs. Even though, the Chiefs spotted them 24 points in the first quarter, the Chiefs won the game by 20! Then, the Chiefs got off lucky after the Titans knocked off the two AFC teams that could've beaten Chiefs in the playoffs. The 9-7 Titans jumped ahead of the Chiefs early, but the talent of the Chiefs pulled through in the end.... again.
The 49ers are a better team and a better match against the Chiefs than either the Texans or Titans. Not sure who I'm picking yet, but the Chiefs cannot afford to give the 49ers a head start in the Super Bowl because this 49ers team will keep it!

So, on a more nit-picky level, we have Leia, who gets blown out of an exploding c*ckpit of a spaceship, INTO SPACE! And somehow, through the Force, I guess (though nowhere in any of the movie has she been shown to have any Force power beyond hearing Luke's cries for help at the end of "Empire Strikes Back"), she is able to stay alive..... in the near absolute zero temperatures of space, with no oxygen and, somehow doesn't explode in the vacuum of space! Then, she floats herself back to the spaceship, where, if I'm remembering correctly, they just open the doors and she floats in! No one gets sucks out when they open the doors because, I guess, she has some sort of space bubble, decompression aura or something. Really stupid and, knowing that Carrie Fischer had died before this movie was completed, it would have been a perfect way to "off" her character.
The space chase plot was all about the rebel, err, resistance fleet running low on fuel. yet, they could stay just enough ahead of the Empire's..... errr, First Order's fleet to not get hit with their lasers. Not sure the issue of "space fuel" had ever been brought up before, but, whatever. Knowing the little bit about space that I do, I know that you don't need fuel beyond getting out of a planet's gravitational pull. In other words: If they were already moving in space fast enough to stay ahead of the First Order Fleet, they could've shut off the engines, and continued on at the same speed for light years without burning any fuel. Again, this is a nit-pick and one that I wouldn't have even thought of it the movie was entertaining otherwise, but that doesn't make it any less valid of a criticism.

So, for starters, much like "The Force Awakens", if it seems like we saw this movie before, we did! "The Last Jedi"'s two main plots are the same as "The Empire Strikes Back". Plot A: Space chase, Plot B: main character meeting a Jedi master in order to be trained. Unlike "The Force Awakens", "The Last Jedi" doesn't make either of the rehashed plots the least bit interesting. The space chase is so fucking slow! I kept having flashbacks of the O.J.-in-the-Ford-Bronco chase from 1995. Realistically though, the space chase on "The Last Jedi" make the O.J. chase look like the last 5 minutes of any "Dukes Of Hazzard" episode in comparison. Slow and boring!
The Jedi-training plot was also boring and tedious. Most of that was Rey trying to convince Luke to train her in the ways of the Jedi. I think we ended up with all of 3 lessons before she went off to fight to Sith Lord. Whatever.
Then there is the end of the movie where we get an, almost frame-by-frame reshoot of the Battle Of Hoth from "The Empire Strikes Back" as well as a similar retelling of the throne room scene with Luke, Vader and the Emperor from "Return Of The Jedi".
Also had a ridiculously stupid, tangential subplot of two minor characters going to a casino planet (yeah, WTF?) for something (someone) who ended up being inconsequential to the rest of the film!
From there, there are a ton of nit-picky things to dislike about "The Last Jedi". Fans of the movie and well as the producers rightly call many of the complaints about the movie "nitpicking" and say that many of the same complaints could be made about the original Star Wars trilogy. They are right that many nitpicking complaints are there for the taking in the original trilogy, but, what they don't understand is that people don't nitpick those movies because they were good, exciting, original and entertaining movies! "The Last Jedi" was fucking as boring as watching paint dry! There was nothing else to do while watching it EXCEPT look for things that were stupid or didn't make sense in the real world! Yeah, I can suspend reality for the better part of 3 hours in order to enjoy an otherwise good movie with a good plot, character development and suspenseful scenes. I can't do it when the whole movie is crap! I'll get into these nitpicks later, but there are quite a few of them! Just wanted to give the overall bullshit rundown of the movie first!

Well, I looked like a genius yesterday! I was wobbley on both picks, but the outcomes made total sense in hindsight. Packers were crushed by the 49ers earlier this year and, apparently learned nothing. Packers flat out could not stop the run and Aaron Rodgers looked befuddled most of the game. As the game went on, they just made stupid mistakes that kept them from ever really contending. 49ers are the real deal. Totally balanced team, talent at every position.
I really wanted to take the Titans over the Chiefs, but decided to go with the home team. The Titans destroyed a Ravens team that was very similar to the Chiefs in the Divisional round. However, history usually dictates that these Cinderella story teams like the Titans, who barely make the playoffs at 9-7, more often than not, eventually look like that 9-7 team who barely made the playoffs!. Titans beat better teams in the Patriots and Ravens in the playoffs due to great game planning and I think they were just out of cards to play against the Chiefs. They had nothing left that the Chiefs didn't see in the previous two weeks and The Chiefs coaching staff had them prepared for anything and everything that the Titans could throw at them. Speaking of throwing, Titans probably should've put the ball in Tannehill's hands before they did. It was clear early on that the Chiefs D was prepared to stop Henry on the ground. Chiefs started out slow again and, like the Texans, the Titans couldn't capitalize enough to build the early lead that they needed. This slow start thing is something that the Chiefs are gonna have to remedy in the Super Bowl because the 49ers are a LOT better team than the Texans or Titans.
