As much as I love Priest I would have to go with Maiden...and not just because I am a bigger Maiden fan.
First of all Maiden is going to have a better stage show....hands down. I just saw them out in Irvine,Ca. last month on my trip to L.A. and the stage show was incredible.
Secondly, Maiden is going to be a bigger draw even here in the states. When I saw them at the Verizon Ampitheatre last month it was sold out and the venue holds just under 16,000. When I saw them in 2003 in Houston there was about the same amount of people. Maiden draws a crowd of alot of young people which I was really suprised at. Priest as of about 4 years ago was playing The House Of Blues....I know they are back to arenas with Halford back...but some of that was the Ozzfest. I know they will still be a good draw, just not what Maiden is. Lastly the guys in Maiden seem to have more energy. Bruce is all over the place running and jumping and to a slightly lesser extent so is Steve Harris. The Three Amigos all seem to have plenty of energy as well. With Judas Priest, they are all pretty stationary especially Ian Hill(his trademark) and Halford who seems like he is physically suffering.
I will have to say musically both bands still have it and would love to see either live. Have never seen a Priest show in person and hope to see them on their next tour....but given the choice I would still see Maiden first.

Here is what I think.....it is along the same lines as Jesse. I think Vai is probably the most musical of the three. I have seen Vai once live at the end of 1999 and have seen Malmsteen 3 times once in 1985, once in 2004 and I saw him earlier this spring. Both Vai and Malmsteen are great showmen. Satriani bores the shit out of me....I don't think his music is very creative or interesting. Is he a great guitar player...I suppose, but even that aspect of him doesn't excite me.
Albumwise I would reccomend Alcatrazz's 'No Parole From Rock 'N Roll' and 'Live Sentence', The first Rising Force Album, as well as 'Marching Out', 'Oddessy', 'Trial By Fire:Live In Lenningrad' and 'Inspiration' for Malmsteen
For Vai I would reccomend Alcatrazz's 'Disturbing The Peace', David Lee Roth's 'Eat'em And Smile, Vai's 'Flexible' and 'Passion and Warfare'
If you want a reccomendation of what to get first I would go with The first Rising Force album and DLR's 'Eat'em And Smile'.

Steeley Dan never did a thing for me. I give my vote to Chicago on the basis of "I'm A Man" and "25 Or 6 To 4" alone. Wasn't the song "I'm A Man" by the Spencer Davis group?....or did Chicago have a song by that title as well? Can't stand Chicago....not a big Steely Dan fan either but if I had to pick it would be the latter. If I never hear a song again by either band I will consider myself lucky.

Went with "Wings Wetted Down"....could've gone for a couple others on that list....or a bunch of others that were not....particulary "Revenge of Vera Gemini", "I'm On the Lamb, But I Ain't No Sheep","Fire Of Unknown Origin",etc.

Too Hot To Handle-UFO Smoke On The Water-Deep Purple Green Grass And High Tides Forever-The Outlaws Chinatown-Thin Lizzy Holy War-Thin Lizzy Dreams-Molly Hatchet
Whenever I hear these songs come on I have to stop and listen to them all the way through.....there are lots of others like these but they are the first ones that come to mind from my younger years as really grabbing me and I never got sick of them.

I agree on the money thing...she is just looking to get as much as she can. Hopefully this will come out as a false allegation and it will hurt her case and settlement.

Van Halen-5150 Motley Crue-Dr. Feelgood Anything by Foreigner and Chicago Nitro...whatever their album was titled Poison....pretty much everything they did....but their first album was by far the worst

Not seeing Thin Lizzy even though I was only 12 when they broke up. Did get to see the Thin Lizzy tribute back in 2000 and got to meet Scott Gorham and John Sykes...that was cool. Not seeing Iron Maiden in the 80's...I did see them in 2003 and will be seeing them in Los Angeles in about a week....so that is cool to Not seeing Alcatrazz with Yngwie open up for Ted Nugent in 1983 in Rocky Point, Rhode Island because the show got cancelled....not sure if my parents were going to give in anyway. not ever seeing David Lee Roth with Van Halen Still have never seen Judas Priest.

I went with Brian Downey. The Live & Dangerous version is killer. That song isn't on "Live And Dangerous". But there is a live version on the bonus disc of 'Wild One:The Very Best Of Thin Lizzy'. THe bonus disc has live songs from every Thin Lizzy era.

Brian Downey for me....the drumming on "BAd Reputation" rules. Brian was a very underrated drummer.

I see where some of us here list Sammy Hagar as a "terrible" replacement in VH.
Did anyone read my post about Sammy & VH?
Even if you hate Sammy, I thought the perspective I presented was actually somewhat reasonable. Wasn't it?
I mean, considering how this already highly succesful band had just departed from their enourmously popular & charasmatic frontman, they accomplished astonishing & monumental successes with another singer. I mean, this sort of thing just doesn't happen. Most bands that replace a good or a great frontman ususally wallow in mediocre and/or in very little success.....many of them simply fold. "Van Hagar" was the exception. #1 albums, #1 tours, etc, ... Even if you hated the guy who joined the band after DLR left, what this band did can't be denied. We may never see this sort of thing ever happen again in our lifetimes, at least at this level.
Objectively speaking, it seems that Hagar was at the very least, a more-than-exceptional "replacement".
Oh well. . Of course I read your post on VH....does that mean I should agree with it......no. I like alot of Sammy's early solo stuff, and I love Montrose. 'Rock THe Nation' and 'Paper Money' are great albums. Van Hagar however was a bunch of radio friendly fodder. EVH's guitar sound was lost at this point. The classic 'Brown sound' was gone. All Sammy did was sing about love. The songs bored the ever living Sh*t out of me at best. All of the attitude of early Van Halen was gone. What made Van Halen Van Halen was done when Sammy joined the band. So in my mind Sammy was a terrible replacement. To be fair you can't really replace a guy like David Lee Roth...to me that was a void that couldn't be filled. They could have done much better though than the stuff they put out with Hagar. That whole arguement to about Van Hagar selling more albums and being more popular than Van Halen fronted by Roth is weak to. That doesn't make it better, just a more generic product that appeals to the lowest common denominator. More than likely when hagar joined your average Scandal fan tuned in....which by the way it is a little known fact that Patty Smyth was considered for the gig before Sammy joined as Eddie and Alex were fans of her band.

The best one I can think of is Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden. Although Smith was asked to join the band before they recorded their first album. Dennis Stratton was a solid guitarist, and I thought he played his ass off on the 'Iron Maiden' album, but that band really solidified when Adrian joined.
Thought Ian Gillen was not only a great replaceement in Deep Purple but Black Sabbath as well. 'Born Again' is my favorite post Ozzy Sabbath album, and still in my top 5 Sabbath albums.
Paul Chapman was a good replacement for Schenker in UFO....very good guitar player
Matthias Jabs was a great replacement for Roth in the Scorpions. Jabs was the perfect guitarist for the direction the band went.
Neil Peart just goes without saying...the first Rush album is cool, but the band really started as we know it with Peart. Neil along with Adrian from MAiden you almost consider original members. Brian Johnson. Still like Bon Scott better but Johnson was the perfect guy for the job. Love wha the did on his first three albums with the band. Trevor Rabin. Love the stuff he did with Yes. Not much of a Steve Howe fan. John Bush in Anthrax....one of the best American metal singers ever.
Terrrible replacements list: Janick Gers replacing Adrian Smith...should have never happened. Phil Collen replacing Pete Willis in Def Leppard. Willis was a much cooler guitar player. Sammy Hagar replacing DLR....should have never happened. Van Hagar was terrible. Matt Sorum replacing Steven Adler in GNR...Sorum's drumming bores the shit out of me. Steve Morse in Deep Purple....love early Steve Morse, just don't understand this one.

Isn't this the version of Genesis we don't want? No Gabriel, No Hackett? What's the point? Who the hell want's to pay to see them doing "I Can't Dance", or "Invisible Touch"? No thanks....
