.....This Year's Rock'n Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees?
What do we have:
Kiss-Duh! Shoulda been in a long time ago.
Yes-Another duh. Should already be in.
Linda Ronstadt- I could go either way. I like some of her stuff, she WAS pretty big in the 70's, but who remembers that shit? Her best songs were covers and she really hasn't done anything but eat twinkies and bash conservatives since her collaboration with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton in the late 80's. She'll probably get in just for bashing conservatives.
Paul Butterfield Blues Band- I wouldn't vote them in, but the HOF probably will. They always go for one semi-obscure artist in order to seem like they are knowledgible.
Link Wray-Who??
NWA
LL Cool J- I'm sorry, I thought this was a ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame not RAP HOF. I know we have this conversation every year, but it bears repeating every year: RAP DOES NOT BELONG IN THE ROCK'N ROLL HALL OF FAME, GET YOUR OWN DAMN HALL OF FAME!
Nirvana-Sure, put 'em in. While we're at it, let's put Mark Rypien in the Football Hall Of Fame, he was just as good over just as short a time period as Nirvana. In fact, Rypien's career path mirrored Nirvana's in more than a few ways.....of course Rypien never shot himself, though he wound up playing QB for the Cleveland Browns which is almost the same thing.
The Zombies-I wouldn't vote them in, but I can certainly see the case for them. I guess if I were a few years older, I'd vote them in in a second!
Deep Purple-Holy Shit! For some reason, I thought they got in last year. I must've been dreaming. Should've been in 10 years ago.
Cat Stevens- No, but they probably will in an outreach to Muslims.
Peter Gabriel-No. He should be in as a member of Genesis (I assume he is), but not as a solo artist. Not a deep enough catalog for HOF worthiness IMO....of course that never mattered to the voters.
Hall And Oates-Y'know, a case COULD be made for them getting in. I'm not going to make it because it's a pretty weak case, but it's there nonetheless.
The Replacements-Remind me again of what their one hit was?
Chic-
The Meters-
Marshall Tucker Band-You got me! No they were not nominated this year, but fuck it, look up MTB's credentials: their string of gold or platinum albums from the '70's, the number of songs they had hit the charts, the 3 songs of theirs that still get (almost) daily airplay on Classic Rock Radio, their influence on today's Country Music (hey if we're including artists who influenced RAP, we're counting artists that influenced Country...besides isn't Hank Williams in the HOF for just that reason?) and their concert drawing power 35 years after the fact. MTB has AT LEAST as much business being in the RNR HOF as about half these artists who were nominated this year. And in case you care, as much as I am a fan I would NOT vote MTB in. It is the Rock'n Roll Hall Of Fame, NOT the Hall Of Very Good Artists. MTB is very good, but not HOF material IMO.
And that's all I got to say about that. How about you?
