So with another Summer under our belts... Who did you guys and gals get to witness concert wise over the last couple of months?
Let's hear it!
Must have been something to "write home about"?...
Sadly, I missed the Joan Jett and Tea Party gig back on the August long weekend here in town ...and I heard that it was pretty good...my loss.
Anyone?
Thanks Kim

I went to less concerts this summer than usual. I was in a long distance relationship and was saving most of my money for airline tickets to Seattle and flights weren't cheap. I did manage to see Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, a stupid hippy band I went to go see with the girl.
I did manage to make it to a pretty cool musicfest block party in Seattle and saw some pretty cool bands not quite on the radar.
I hope to get to a few more this fall and winter.

Unfortunately only made it to one concert this summer. Because of other commitments I had to decide between Frampton Come Alive 35th anniversary show and Styx/Yes. I went with Styx/Yes.
Yes opened and played one new song, but kept to their early 70's heyday mostly. They only played one song from the 80's hit album.
Howe looks really old, but played well. The lineup was mostly classic, with a terrific Anderson sing-alike.
I've seen Yes (and Anderson, Brufiord, Wakeman, and Howe) three other times since the mid-70's and they sounded pretty darn good IMO.
The singer did well enough that two of the people who went with us (and had never seen them live) thought it was the original singer.
Set list Tempus Fugit Yours Is No Disgrace Heart of the Sunrise I've Seen All Good People Fly From Here And You and I Owner of a Lonely Roundabout Encore: Starship Trooper
Styx really knocked it out of the park! I have avoided seeing them the last 3 years or so because the set list hadn't changed for quite awhile.
They had just about the best set I could have wished for (Snow Blind would have been the icing...). They played virtually all of Grand Illusion (pulling Man in the Wilderness, one of my favorites, out of mothballs), and avoided Cornerstone and Kilroy! They did on esong from their last CD which I like very much.

Money's been tight this year, plus, I'm just not into the live experience like I use to be. That said I did manage to see 3 shows: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Great show, but I love Country music and their catalog is amoung my alltime favorites. Neat line up, they didn't have a bass player per se as the Keyboardist played all the bass lines. They didn't play a lot of their hits because one of their main songwriters, Jimmy Ibbotson, left the band several years ago. Still, original guitarist Jeff Hanna sang his old standards of "American Dream"and "Mr Bojangles" and did good on the Ibbotson songs "Dance Little Jean" and "Fishin' In The Dark". Multi-instrumentalist John McEuen played a banjo solo that would blow your mind even if you're not much of a banjo-pickin' fan. Molly Hatchet. I didn't bother posting a review of them here because it was kinda bad. Actually the performance was good. Sloppy, but energetic. The setlist had changed drastically for the first time in ages. However, the sound was HORRIBLE! The guitars and vocals were WAY too loud. I almost left during "Gator Country" (3rd song) cuz it just sounded like slop. Sound got a little better as the night went on, but the guitars were still too loud and the singer sounded like he was screaming most of the vocals. Probably the worst MH show I ever saw. Blackberry Smoke. I already gave my review of them. It was at the same venue as I saw Molly Hatchet, but the sound was terrific. Loud, but not ear piercing and the mix was perfect. I highly reccommend everyone check them out if they come into your area. Tickets were cheap and even thought they are a bit Country at times, they make it fun!

I forgot, I also saw Marshall Tucker Band in a pretty good, but abbreviated show. Only got to play about 7 songs cuz the opening acts went long and the town had a noise ordinance. The good part was that Doug Gray only sang 2 of the songs, they are SO much better when their original vocalist doesn't sing.

David Johansen looks so much like Mick Jagger onstage its hard to tell them apart at times... only that Johansen doesn't run the stage the way Mick does... he simply stands at the mic stand and poses... great show though, full of raw energy and something I'd seriously like to see again.
