The first tour Sammy did with Van Halan. I was delivering lumber & truses in Los Angeles. So the day the tickets went on sale, I left with my load early, early.
It happend to be at the Forum and I was delivering in the area. So after the delivery I hald ass over to the Forum pulled the big rig into the parking lot. (hopping the boss wouldn't drive by)
I mingle in with the crowd, got a wrist band. Like number 15?
So when we get up there to buy them. They tell me the seat's are way in the back?? BULLSHIT!! I'm only the 15th person here, asshole?
So I told them to fuck themself's. Went out by Montabelo, pulled into the MALL, (remember I'm pulling a 45 foot trailer) Go into the ticket master place there and it's the same crap! And every half hour all day, for weeks I'm hearing the fuckin' radio station contest giving front row seat's away!! Kinda blew the wind out of my sail.
So the people paying for the concert had to sit in the back!!

I hate that shit, it's happened to me too many times in the past so I just stoped buying tickets and started walking in the side or rear door at 3pm day of show. I end up meeting the band, watch the sound check, hanging backstage and then going out front when the show starts. I have done this 200 + some times now, never fails.

Nowadays, most of the groups sell the first 15 to 30 rows to their fan clubs. You pay to belong to the fanclub and then you get to buy your tickets before the general public.....................not like the good ol' days with festival seating.

I was fortunate enough to catch VH with Roth on the 1984 tour. Contrary to what I've heard and read...I thought they kicked ass. Damn good show. I had never seen them live before and thought I'd get plenty more chances. See what I got for thinking?
Then I saw them with Sammy. It was okay. But it was a totally different band. It just seemed more "business-like". I never cared that much for the Van Hagar tunes anyway. And Sammy obviously didn't have his heart in the old Roth-era songs they played. It just seemed "forced" or "un-natural". I don't know. They just didn't impress me that time around.
I have no desire to see them again. I've seen the new press pics and read what Sammy has to say about them being back together. There is still bad blood. These guys obviously don't like each other. Who wants to see four guys on stage that don't get along? If they're gonna' do that...they might as well tour with Roth. That's what most everybody wants to see anyway.

To each his own but... The only VH worth seeing or listening to IMO. Nice pic of Ed's pedalboard from the early days.

If they don't like Sammy or Dave? And they're doing it just for the cash? Why not go with Dave? They would make alot more cash? So maybe cash isn't all that it's about?

Only time I saw VH was with Gary Cherone singing. I don't care what anyone says, his heart was into EVERY song they played that night. He sang both the DLR and Sammy tunes flawlessly and (wisely) only sang 2 tunes from VH3. I really didn't want to go to the show (Friend got stuck with a ticket, so I went ), but I was glad I did, they kicked some serious ass!

I haven't seen them yet in any capacity so I am hoping to go see them in Chicago at the United Center. I like both DLR and Hagar but prefer Hagar by a little bit.

I saw Van Halen with David Lee Roth at the US Festival in 1983. -skip this if you've heard this- They were on right as the sun went down. Most everyone was fried as well sun baked to the max. Their schtik was that everyone came out on stage except for Dave. Where's Dave? Where could he be? A mobile vid-cam darts around back stage with the large screens showing the action. There's Dave! Gosh-darn, him! By golly, he's screwing a groupie backstage. Half corny half titlating by those day's standards... Later while greeting the croud, somebody squirts him with water. Dave quips, "Don't squirt me, I'll f*ck your girlfriend." Again, about half thought it was funny and half thought it repugnant. It was all memorable nonetheless however.
PS: The Scorpions blew them away (imo). Total pro's and they were right on, big time.

I'VE SEEN BOTH THE SAMMY & DLR VERSIONS LIVE & WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE SAMMY VERSION & REALLY DISSAPOINTED IN THE DLR VERSION. AS FAR WHICH ONE THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN BACK TOGETHER WITH. I THINK DAVID SCREWED HIMSELF A FEW YEARS BACK ON THE MTV AWARDS. IMO. AND SAMMY HAS SAID THAT ALEX GOT TOGETHER TO MEND THIER FRIENDSHIP FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC WAS DISCUSSED.

I was reading about Eddie Alex and Sammy still not to happy with each other and have different storys on why they split up...anyone recall any good reports on this I know Eddie said he told Sammy to work on a song for the movie Twister..Eddie said I told Sammy do a song about anything But A Tornado..and that is what Sammy did..A song about a Tornado..pissed Eddie off..

From what I recall...and my memory is not what it used to be...Sammy wanted to take some time off when his wife had a baby. Eddie didn't want him to, but Sammy did anyway. That was about the time VH was working with Roth on the new songs for the "Best Of" release. Eddie called Sammy and said "Hey, you better get back here because the new songs are sounding pretty good." Sammy says "If the stuff with Roth is better than what we've been doing, I'll blow you both!" Eddie says "Dude, don't say that man." Then Eddie told him "Why don't you just go back to being a solo artist...that's what you've always been anyway." A couple of "F*ck you's" were exchanged and that was that. Sammy says he was fired...Eddie says he quit.
It's obvious that there is still bad blood between them. And for that reason, I have no desire to go see them play. Sammy was the "bitter brothers" only option. They can't work with Roth. To do that, Eddie would have to admit some sort of "defeat" in his mind. The fans never accepted Gary Cherone. A new singer at this point was out of the question. Sammy was all that was left. It is interesting though, that longtime Sammy pal Jesse Harms-who quit the Waborita's several months ago-put a message on his website about how Sammy has been trying to get Van Halen back together for the past three years. And don't think for a second that it didn't piss Eddie and Alex off big-time that Michael Anthony has remained "buds" with Sammy and played with his band numerous times.

HEY SCOTT, I JUST READ SOMETHING LAST YEAR ABOUT EDDIE & ALEX BEING MAD AT MICHEAL FOR PLAYING WITH SAMMY ON THE ROTH/HAGAR TOUR. IN FACT FOR THIS REUNION THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE WAS FOR EDDIE & ALEX TO MAKE UP WITH MICHAEL. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS REUNION BUT NIETHER SHOW IN MY AREA IS GONNA WORK OUT. BUT THIS WHOLE THING IS STRANGE INDEED WITH ALL THATS GONE ON IN THE PAST WITH EVERYONE INVOLVED.

Sammy's famous quote...the one the played over and over on Howard Stern...is "The only way I would play with those guys again is for the money."
