Unfortunately,I was only able to stay for the first 6 songs of Lita Ford due to my back (once again!). I would've lasted but Sass Jordan who opened the show played for over an hour & Lita Ford didn't start playing until about 9:45PM.
Sass Jordan opened the show & she does have one hell of a powerful voice.I stayed up near the front for the first 3 rocking songs & then moved to the back of the outdoor venue to sit at a table in hopes of being able to last through Lita's set. I only have one of Jordan's albums which is 'Racine' so I'm not sure of any tunes she played. I know she played a few songs from her new album 'Dusk til Dawn' which all had heavy country overtones to them.
She put on a good show & seemed to be enjoying herself onstage but actually I expected a better performance. My wife & I were getting a bit bored & were even tempted to leave the free show before Lita even hit the stage(which I'm glad we didn't because even though I was only able to last through 6 Lita tunes, it was worth the back pain I went through)
Lita Ford & her band featuring Ron"Bumblefoot"Thal(G N' R) on guitar, P.J. Farley(Trixter) bass,Angel(2003) keyboardist Michael T. Ross & drummer Dennis Leeflang took the stage at 9:45 full of fire as they rocked the hell out of the outdoor venue with "Larger than Life" from her 1991 album 'Stiletto'. I could not believe how great the band sounded & Lita's stage presence was unbelievable. Keyboardest Michael T Ross led the band into "Black Widow" which kicked ass.Lita looked great with her ripped Jeans & a leopard skin jacket as she rocked out the first few songs swinging her guitar around to her back & grabbing the microphone leaning out over the crowd. In between songs she threw down her guitar, ripped off the leopard skin jacket(revealing a hard ass denim & leather vest) & threw that down as well. She ran to the side of the stage & began talking to this huge guy with a spiked mowhawk whom I found out was her husband Jim Gilette(former vocalist for the late 80's hair band Nitro). She came back to the front of the stage with a bunch of papers & announced that they were going to play a song they never played before from her upcoming 'Wicked Wonderland' album called "Scream". Wow! What a song!!! It was heavy & dark sounding & she actually sang a duet with her husband(whom I still can't believe is the same guy that sang for Nitro!)who used a deep growling sound with his voice.
She then played another new song which was another duet with Gilette & the tune was called "Crave" which was just as good as the previous tune. I had to leave shortly after so I missed at least the second half of the show which was a shame because it seemed to be one hell of a set.I'm not sure what she closed with but I have read that she's been closing her shows lately with Sammy Hagar's "One Way to Rock"(Hmmm she must be a Sammy fan because on her 2005 album 'Greatest Hits Live' she closed the album with the Montrose classic "Rock Candy")
Great show but I would've thought with Sass Jordan's credentials she would have had a stronger stage presence.Lita totally blew her away.
