Because of the music rights. This show has had its fair share of legal problems in that regard.
Anyhow, I can't wait for this release. Lotta classic shows. Personal fav was the drunk driving episode, where Johnny and venus take a reaction test and drink and keep taking the test. Johnny's reaction time actually gets BETTER with each drink and venus ends up trashed. ;D

And with all the drama with the music rights delaying the DVD release…why was the no problems when it came out on VHS years ago? And, for me, the Real Families episode where a reality TV show followed Herb and his family is about the funniest thing i ever saw on TV.

Looks like a lot of the music (Tull, Floyd etc) has been replaced on these and about 3-4 minutes from each episode has been cut out. I'll be passing on this one unfortunately.

Each episode is lacking 3 - 4 minutes? WTF?!!! Yeah, in a lot of cases where they had music they couldn't get the licensing for instead of using different music they cut out the scene entirely. I don't think they wanted to spend a lot of money it would've taken to put it out with the original music, so *snip*

Here's a lil snip-it i cut and paste from a review of the DVDs. It could be worse:
...For starters, most of the redubbing has been done rather seamlessly, and aside from a few awkward moments, the changes shouldn't be noticeable to newcomers. (Wilson himself on a commentary track said he's satisfied with the way the alterations turned out.) As for the scenes cut, they are short enough not to affect the story in any way, and they are limited - only two episodes ("Hoodlum Rock" and "A Date with Jennifer") are in their shorter syndication cut; all other cuts are only a few seconds. It also helps that the DJs had a habit of turning down the music right after it started playing, eliminating the need for even more dubbing.

Sounds to me like the DVDs are of the syndicated reruns they did in the late 80's. I recall the original music being changed at that time because of musicians pissed about copywrite infringement and not getting paid. I thought the reason they held off on a WKRP dvd set was to regain those rights and release the original episodes as they were intended to be.......maybe they tried and it just couldn't be worked out. Hopefully, WKRP can now be on TV Land too.
I'm with Spacel0rd, an edited WKRP is better than no WKRP at all.
