This would be a KILLER line up if it was true.........
Schenker is planning to release a new Michael Schenker Group (MSG) album in April, to be followed by a world tour. Entitled "In the Midst of Beauty", the CD will feature the following lineup: Gary Barden - Vocals; Simon Philips (Toto, The Who) - Drums; Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) - Bass; Don Airey (Deep Purple, Rainbow) - Keyboards. A tour featuring Barden on vocals will kick off following the album release."
Looking for more information on this, a little clarification was obtained. In relation to the Gary Barden reference, one source had this to say: "All is top secret at the moment and I cannot comment...but there is something in the pipe..." Glenn Hughes was more precise about his involvement, sending me this comment: "The rumour about me joining Up with Michael is bizarre...I got an email from a fellow in Germany a couple days ago askin' if I was interested in makin' a record with Schenker. I never responded about the MSG project as I have been in the studio makin' my new album. At this time I am only interested in my style of music, something which is so very close 2 my heart and Soul." Glenn added "Everyone on the planet knows, that if I'm not singin' lead vox, there is something definetly wrong with the scenario..."

Hey Frank, I was allover this too & have to say if he can pull something off, with some name band members, then he stands a chance of making up some ground again, after all his last few years disasters! Also realised that after Glenn Hughes has absolutely denied this, Michael Schenker has made an update on his "official" website, indicating it will now be Neil Murray on Bass, ex-everyone! Check out his site now ...., but one thing you'll notice is that Michael hasn't really corrected the front page too well as there is still a square Ad there that STILL reflects the line up with Glenn Hughes! Here's the Press Release: :::::::::::::: Michael Schenker Press Release :::::::::::::::::: Michael Schenker is currently setting up a Concert Tour under the name - Michael Schenker & Friends - playing almost all of UK's Rock Clubs (starting January 10th stretching as far as March) to shake up the ground for a major MSG UK and World Tour with a Brand New Album Release in April Titled: "In the Midst of Beauty" with: Gary Barden on Vocals Simon Philips - Drums Neil Murray - Bass Don Airey -Keyboards Michael Schenker says: With a new Agent and new plans I want to anounce my well being by playing all over the UK before teaming up with the Schenker/Barden MSG Formation for a major UK and World Tour in April. www.michaelschenkerhimself.com/index2.htmlGuess we'll have to see who pulls out next, huh?! Even with Murray instead of Hughes this would still be a killer line up to see. I guess I really don't care who he has playing bass as long it's not that spook that he has had his last few tours. That guy bugs me.

I'm too trepidacious about getting stoked for a Michael Schenker show. But this news is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Nice dropping of names... for us Schenker fans. Dang.
...and yeah that Rev dude is borderline-psychotic acting on stage. I've seen 'em.

melodicrock.com says Simon Philips won't be touring because he's comitted to Toto.He may lay down the drum tracks for the disc and that's about it. I don't see Don Airey doing it either, Purple is touring in 2008 as well.

Just getting Barden back as a vocalist makes me happy.

Just checked Deep Purple's Highway Star and they do have Don Airey doing at least a dozen European shows w/ Schenker.

Keep the Crown Royal locked up and maybe.... Maybe they should just pay him a few cases of beer. Then he'd be sure to show up.

No Don Airey. Officially from himself on the Deep Purple "Highway Star" I think at this point and time, anyone who has ANYTHING else going on musically will be distancing themselves from Michael, unfortunately.
