From Brain Damage Live 8 Since the Live 8 concert was announced yesterday, the rumour mill has stepped up a gear, and there are fresh claims in many parts of the international media that Pink Floyd are confirmed as appearing. Many of these state that the band are performing in the Philadelphia part of the show.
We spoke to Pink Floyd's manager this evening to clarify matters. It was confirmed categorically to us, that the band are NOT taking part in the show, and there are currently no discussions to place the matter under consideration. The four that could possibly confirm their appearance - Pink Floyd Management, Mark Fenwick (Roger Waters' manager), LD Communications (who are handling the show), and Bob Geldof - have made NO announcements regarding the Floyd involvement.
Any talk, therefore, of them appearing is just wishful thinking on the part of whoever is spreading this rumour. Whilst we have mentioned this previously, the press coverage since the announcement has stepped up the stories of the band appearing, so we wanted to ensure you have the latest clarification of what is (or indeed, isn't) happening.

Sounds like a pretty crappy lineup so far for this Live 8 "extravaganza". The one 20 years ago had some crappy bands, but this one seems to be almost totally comprised of them. It'd be cool if they had Floyd, but I'd be REALLY surprised if they appeared. Hell, at this point it'd be cool if anyone awesome were to appear, besides McCartney there's not a whole lot going on...they better step things up if they expect ME to watch this that's for sure.Out of ALL the bands they could pick, you'd think they'd get some that actually ROCK

Well, I see that Velvet Revolver is supposed to play one of these shows, but still..what, for like 3 or 4 songs? What about Priest? At least the first one had reunions of Zeppelin and Sabbath, even though neither one of them were that great there, it was still cool at the time. Have Van Halen with Roth, GNR with Axl, THAT'D bring people to watch..and where's Eric Clapton? Usually you just have to mention the word "Benefit" and he's there..a Cream performance would be cool...how about Deep Purple with Blackmore, or even a Rainbow reunion with Dio? An Alice Cooper band reunion...the list could go on and on...Schenker with UFO might add some drama But no...they have P Diddy and 50 cent..yeah THOSE are people I want to see

These are "free" concerts, which is probably why they can't get the big bands out.

True, but there aren't too many who would pass up the opportunity to play to billions of people, as this one is going to be broadcast to, over TV and on the 'net. I think whoever is booking the bands has their head up their ass personally

Sounds like a pretty crappy lineup so far for this Live 8 "extravaganza". There's hope....Concerts in Canada, Japan and Russia still haven't been announced.
