From Southernrock.comFORMER SRA BASSIST PETE GEDDES Sadly, on Tuesday, June 29th, Pete Geddes took his own life. As many of you remember, he was the original bass player for SRA, and one of the nicest people we've ever met. Pete was a very special and kind person, so this news has taken all of us by surprise and left us feeling extreme sadness and grief. he was more than someone we once had the privilege to share the stage with, he was our friend and someone we all respected. Our condolences and prayers go out to his family, friends and loved ones. We know he'll be missed by many and he will never be forgotten. God bless you, Pete!

Though it says he was the original bassist for the Southern Rock Allstars, he was actually at least their second bassist. Blackfoot's Greg Walker was their first. At that time the Southern Rock Allstars actually WERE Southern Rock Allstars with Walker on bass, Jakson Spires (also of Blackfoot) on drums, Dave Hlubek (Molly Hatchet) on guitar and Jay Johnson (Rossington Band) on guitar and most vocals. Throughout their career, the likes of Tommy Crain (Charlie Daniels Band), Billy Jones (Outlaws), Charlie Hargrette (Blackfoot), Mike Estes (Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Duane Roland (Molly Hatchet) have been in the group and Jimmy Farrar (Molly Hatchet) is in the current version. BTW-The current version is: Jakson Spires Jimmy Farrar Jay Johnson Charles Hart Scott Mabrey Any wonder why they seem to refer to themselves as SRA nowadays? As much as I've heard Jay Johnson bitch about the current incarnation of Molly Hatchet, I can't believe that he's let guys like Charles Hart and Scott Mabrey into a band called "The Southern Rock Allstars", I mean, Jay barely qualifies as an "Allstar" himself. Oops, sorry for the slight rant, back to the topic: Pete Geddes replaced Greg Walker and played on several tracks from SRA's "Crazy Again" CD before being replaced by Charles Hart. I never got to see him live, but from all accounts, he was a great bassist and a great person even if he didn't quite meet the definition of "Southern Rock Allstar".
