Here's news that's a real shocker Despite GUNS N ROSES frontman Axl Rose's insistence that the band's long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", will surface before the end of 2006, a Universal Music Canada spokesperson told Jane Stevenson of the Toronto Sun this week that "We have no indication that a GUNS N' ROSES record will be released this year." The New York Times reported in an article last year that Rose had been working on the album in fits and starts since 1994 and racked up $13 million in production costs. As previously reported, GUNS N' ROSES cancelled the November 6 show in Portland, Maine, claiming persecution by local officials. Rose and GN'R manager Merck Mercuriadis said in a statement that the local fire marshals "intended to harass our fans, crew and the band through enforcing rules and regulations that are 200 years old to an extent that has not been applied to other artists and that we believed would make the gig a potential time bomb that would explode." While the statement did not specify which rules the band objected to, it implied that the cancellation had to do with restrictions over the band's stage production and pyrotechnics. However, Nelson Collins, supervisor of licensing and inspections at the state Fire Marshall's Office, told the Portland Press Herald that he believed the pyrotechnics issue had been resolved and that an alcohol restriction was the main area of dispute (he informed the band's management that the musicians would not be allowed to drink alcohol while onstage). The band and its management denied that the cancellation was due to low ticket sales. The show had reportedly sold about 3,000 tickets in an arena that holds 6,500.

...The New York Times reported in an article last year that Rose had been working on the album in fits and starts since 1994 and racked up $13 million in production costs.... Is this not the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen in the music industry? (And I mean "ridiculous" in a bad way.)If VH-1 ever does a "100 Most Ridiculous Things To Ever Happen In Rock" programs, this has to be #1.

this was just posted on Melodicrock.com : DECEMBER FOR GUNS N ROSES?: Watch this date - Tuesday December 19. That is the new/current supposed release date for the Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy album. I'm told that the plan is still to try and surprise fans with the release, but the November 21 date for this has been scrapped. The guys are definitely running out of time for that 2006 release date. Advance warning or not, the release of this album will surprise many!
