The Thin Ice
If you should go skating On the thin ice of modern life Dragging behind you the silent reproach Of a million tear-stained eyes Don't be surprised when a crack in the ice Appears under your feet. You slip out of your depth and out of your mind With your fear flowing out behind you As you claw the thin ice.
Time
Ticking away the moments that make up the dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find that ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Perfect Sense, Part I Lyrics
The monkey sat on a pile of stones And he stared at the broken bone in his hand And the strains Viennese quartet Rang out across the land The monkey looked up at the stars And he thought to himself Memory is a stranger History is for fools And he cleaned his hands In a pool of holy writing Turned his back on the garden And set out for the nearest town Hold on hold on soldier When you add it all up The tears and marrowbone There's an ounce of gold And an ounce of pride in each ledger And the Germans killed the Jews And the Jews killed the Arabs And Arabs killed the hostages And that is the news And is it any wonder That the monkey's confused He said Mama Mama The President's a fool Why do I have to keep reading These technical manuals And the joint chiefs of staff And the brokers on Wall Street said Don't make us laugh You're smart kid Time is linear Memory's a stranger History's for fools Man is a tool in the hands Of the great God Almighty And they gave him command Of a nuclear submarine And sent him back in search of The Garden of Eden

not gonna quote any lyrics....but I like alot of The Police stuff.
Iron Maiden's lyrics would just draw you in like novel. Some of my favorite lyrics by them are : 'Sanctuary', 'Phantom Of The Opera", "Running Free", "Killers", "Remember Tomorrow" "Children Of The Damned" "22 Acacia Ave." , "The Prisoner' ,"Hallowed Be Thy Name"....you now what I am gonna stop there with Maiden because I will be writing all day.
Early Judas Priest, especailly stuff like "Victim Of Changes" "Beyond The Realms Of Death", "The Rage", etc...
Of coarse Dylan had great lyrics, but the one that stands out for me is 'Masters Of War'
I always loved what Paul McCartney did in The Beatles lyrically. He was a great storyteller and wrote stuff that actually meant something. Some of my favorite lyrics by him are songs like 'She Came In through The Bathroom Window', 'Rocky Racoon', 'Hey Jude', 'Eleanor Rigby', etc. His stuff with The Wings was great to.
Roger Waters almost goes without saying, especially with Floyd.
I think that John Mellancamp had alot of lyrics that meant something to everyday people. Stuff that you really could relate to.
Johnny Cash...nuff said there

That Buckcherry song is great, the first time you hear it, it sticks with you. Dream On: Every time I look in the mirror All these lines on my face getting clearer The past is gone It goes by, like dusk to dawn Isn't that the way Everybody's got their dues in life to pay Yeah, I know nobody knows where it comes and where it goes I know it's everybody's sin You got to lose to know how to win Half my life is in books' written pages Lived and learned from fools and from sages You know it's true All the things come back to you Sing with me, sing for the year Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears Sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year sing for the laughter, sing for the tear sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream until your dreams come true Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream until your dream comes through Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On Sing with me, sing for the year sing for the laughter, sing for the tear sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away Sing with me, sing for the year sing for the laughter, sing for the tear Sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away......

The Wall
I'm woven in a fantasy, I can't believe the things I see The path that I have chosen now Has led me to a wall And with each passing day I feel a little more like something dear was lost It rises now before me, A dark and silent barrier between, All I am, and all that I would ever want be It's just a travesty, Towering, marking off the boundaries my spirit Would erase
To pass beyond is what I seek I fear that I may be too weak And those are few who've seen it Through to glimpse the other side, The promised land is waiting like a maiden that is soon to be a bride The moment is a masterpiece, The weight of indecision's in the air It's standing there, the symbol and the sum of all that's me It's just a travesty, Towering, blocking out the light and blinding me I want to see
Gold and diamonds cast a spell, It's not for me I know it well The riches that I seek Are waiting on the other side There's more than I can measure in the treasure of the love that I can find And though it's always been with me, I must tear down the Wall and let it be All I am, and all that I was ever meant to be, in harmony Shining true and smiling back at all who wait to cross There is no loss

Cheyenne Anthem
From the mountains to the sun, life has only just begun We wed this land and pledge our souls to meet its end, Life has only just begun Here my people roam the earth, in the kingdom of our birth Where the dust of all our horses hides the sun We are mighty on the earth, on the earth
You have come to move me, take me from my ancient home, Land of my fathers I can't leave you now We will share it with you, no man owns this earth we're on Now the wheels are rolling, hear the howling winds of war It's my destiny to fight and die Is there no solution, can we find no other way, Lord let me stay Under the endless sky and the earth below Here I was born to live and I will never go, oh no
But we cannot endure like the earth and the mountains Life is not ours to keep, for a new sun is rising
Soon these days shall pass away, for our freedom we must pay All our words and deeds are carried on the wind, In the ground our bodies lay, here we'll stay

Good call Duojett with the mention of The Police lyrics! ...uhmmm with the exception of De Do Do Do...haha.
I'm different in the sense that when it comes to music, most song lyrics take a back seat to the beat, melody, harmonies, instruments, etc. involved.
However, the lyrics from folks such as Harry Chapin, Dan Fogelberg, Cat Stevens, Kate Bush or Roger Hodgson for example, now emphasize the lyrical part of the song for me. Whether it's because the music is a wee bit more subdued in it's intensity and allows me to focus more on the lyrics instead???...I don't know???
Thanks Kim

I'm not the biggest Pearl Jam fan but I love the following line from "Wish List":
....I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good.....I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood....[/color]
