Not a huge fan of either band. I will vote ZZ Top solely for Gibbons' guitar work.

ZZ Top is a great band...especially the old stuff.
But...Skynyrd (with Ronnie) is right up there with the best bands EVER, imo.

I like Skynyrd...BUT...
ZZ Top wins by a landslide for me. I'm probably one of the few that actually like the Eliminator and Afterburner albums.
Again, here was a group that was able to change gears years after their earlier style and actually make it work. Mind you, not all die hard early fans were accepting of the "synth" sound these albums are known for but in the overall genre that they were presented in, the final package worked for me.
However, big mistake to go back and try to fuck with an earlier release by applying the same sound chemistry from the 80's to the 70's. That's like asking Da Vinci to come back and give ole "Moaning Lisa" a new hair-doo and a nipple ring???
Thanks Kim

ZZ for sure (the older the records the better)...here is my only experience with a L S fan. I was at a classic rock show a few years back, it was an outdoor all day show and during a Skynyrd song this guy who was drunk off his ass and had brown and yellow teeth was standing next to my friend and I. This exuberant fan proceeded to shout SKYNYRD at the top of his lungs while he whipped out his thing and peed on the ground where we all stood. I'm not saying all fans are that low but I don't want to see them live ever again.
