Apparently quite a few if I judge by the lack of replys & views to my "Obscure Hard Rock/Heavy Metal" threads, but then again maybe some just don't like the bands, or don't like to write their thoughts or have the time? But if I only turn on one person to a new band he or she likes, my mission is accomplished!

Porcupine Tree Opeth
Both are progressive rock. Opeth is a little crunchier. PT is one of my favorite bands. Only been listening to them for about a year.

New England Private Lightning James Montgomery Horslips Donnie Iris Funny. I know New England, used to have their album....might still. They opened for KISS here in '79. Donnie Iris is a semi legend around these parts. He still can sell out venues that bigger name acts cannot do.

I also New England open for Kiss in '79 Dynasty Tour in Memphis, I used to have their album on 8-Track. Anybody remember "Shark Island" from the 80s? They were pretty good.

They were big around here. Paul Stanley produced their first LP and they toured with Kiss in '79 (them and Foghat opened for Kiss when I saw them). I had seen the band in a handful of smaller venues. Their first self titled album was clearly their best, though their 2nd one, "Living in the 80's was OK, and Todd Rundgren produced their 3rd. I read somewhere that the fact that they came from the Boston area hurt them, and that if they had broke out in the midwest (Kansas, Styx country), they would have had a better shot. I saw Donnie Iris open for Uncle Ted (1 of 4 Ted shows I've seen), and honestly think he was better than Ted's that night. This was when Ted was doing that guitar army thing, and I was deaf for a couple of days after. LOL Anyway, I went out and bought "Back on the Streets" by Iris and I liked it so much it still in the rotation today. FYI- Iris fronted a band called Jaggerz in the 60's that had a hit single called "The Rapper" and he was in Wild Cherry for awhile. His biggest solo hit still gets on the classic stations up this way. "Ah Leah"

Donnie Iris is a local legend in Pittsburgh. If you had a show with Donnie, Joe Grushecky and the Clarks you could easily pull in 10,000 or more people.

The most obscure but not unheard of album in my collection would have to be "Triumvirate".
The rest of my gobbledegook collection is relatively mainstream. ;D
Thanks Kim
