I am just now recovering with ears still ringing, from the raucus, wild onslaught from Tesla. Although not sold out, the 1300 or so people there were treated to a full bore, extensive rock-n-roll show.
In the early days of partying as a young adult the Oasis Ballroom was the downtown club that got great acts. Small venue but it was great because of that. Of course most of the time it was local and small, touring unknown bands. City Kid was a mainstay most nights. City Kid then became Tesla once they finally got signed with Geffen records on the coattails of recently acquired heavy hitters of that time with Aerosmith and Def Leppard. The "O" as we used to call it, was five blocks from were Tesla played last night. (Now an office in the original building)
The show was more than I expected. The opening act, were punks doing moderately decent rock. They had a good singer-combo rythm guitar player. They had a dressed down look with skin-head hairdos and baggy trousers. Whatever. Kinda sucks, I think. The tunes weren't too bad, but their set seemed to drag on as most everyone was ready for INTO THE NOW, kick-ass rock!
Tesla came out on stage and Jeff Keith, the lead singer, asked the croud "how are all doing, are you ready to party?", he continued, "It's good to be home".
Then the bass and drums into the rythm of Into the Now and the band goes full bore into the song.
Jeff cut-up with the crowd exclaiming good things about being home and with the band reunited...
More music with Song & Emotion
then right into succession,
Mighty Mouse,
Little Suzie,
Look at Me Now,
Miles Away,
Got No Glory,
Then there was a sort of break with clowning around between all them with Jeff interacting with the crowd and Frank, and Tommy, (guitarists) talked about their original introduction and stuff...
Then more:
Mama's Fool,
Signs,
Modern Day Cowboy,
Then more crowd interaction during a break where, Brian (bass and founding member) Thanks Pat Martin (local Dj helped in reuniting the band) Blah, blah, Pat came out and he got the crowd fired up, I admit...
Then they do:
Heaven Nine Eleven,
Brian introduces the bands "special" song,
Caught in a Dream,
Then they go right into,
The Way it Is,
What a Shame,
Words Can't Explain
They get up and say goodnight, and Jeff says something, like "We'll do an encore if you want but we better hear you!"
The techs come out to sych us out and everyone stomps the recently "earthquake-proofed" building into a throbbing wavelike motion...
Then they come back on after a while of this,
They introduce each other and Troy Lucetta was the last when they anounced the "best drummer in the world"...
Extended, and huge drum solo... commences for a good chunk of ten minutes, (maybe -I'm guessing)
Then the guitarists go into extended jam session with a battle, and a cool riff thingy... then Jeff (singer) joins in and Frank (guitarist) with a scat sesssion vocal wailing with guitar trade-offs...
Then they go into songs:
Comin Atcha Live
Then the guitarists go into extended jam session with guitar trade-offs...
Comin Atcha Live(they pick it back up and it finally ends)
Another set:
What U Give,
Love Song,
Come To Me,
They finally end the show with:
Gettin' Better
The show was over two hours and they had the place surging with their best songs. Lot's of headbanging, lot's of moving and groovin'. You guy's would be proud of the major good vibe and fun loving party'ers that were into the rock!
