I was just wondering why it is that David Lee Roth is known as "Diamond Dave". I feel like I should know the answer, but I don't (lol). Any ideas?

Probably because of how over the top and flamboyent he was. Also he embraced and was a symbol of the accesses of Los Angeles and Hollywood, in the late 70's to mid/late8 80's.If you think about it it is the perfect name for him.

I never really gave it any thought, just a nick name? Why was Foghat's Dave Peverett known as Lonesome Dave?

I BELIEVE MR. ROTH KIND OF TOOK THAT NAME FOR HIMSELF. AFTER ALL WE ALL KNOW HOW FULL OF HIMSELF HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN.

Thanks Kim Freddie was cool...and he was charismatic....but I don't think he had near the charisma of DLR...especially back in the days of DLR era VH.

I dunno Duo...I'm pretty sure Freddie was a force to be reckoned with even during Daves' heyday???
Just my opinion, but even when Mr. Mercury donned the leathers, he still had a stage presence that would make a sane man question the testosterone level coursing through his veins even if the man was a flamer.
Something about Freddie that was solid in his delivery musicaly and stage presence wise.
Hey!!!...let's take it to a vote!... ;D
Thanks Kim

Their has never been a more charismatic frontman in hard rock. Ever.... Sorry, IMO he's not even in the upper echelon... unless preening and posing is the criteria. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching him front VH, but I didn't come away from the show saying "wow, that's the best frontman I ever saw"
