Round 2 : During each of these band's heyday back in the 70's, which was better in your opinion, The Alice Cooper Group or KISS?

You know I gotta say KISS. Get booted from the KISS Army if I said otherwise.

I like old Kiss...Love Ace... but you know what...thought Michael Bruce was better. Great songwriter...great guitar player, and along with Glen Buxton, that was hard to beat. They wrote better, more meaningful songs. Kiss was much more popular...Alice Cooper Group was just better.

These are my 2 favorite bands of all time so I had to vote neither.

This was a tough decision...
I listened to the old Alice Cooper as much as old Kiss...I got into Kiss first, and Alice right on the heels of...
Today I listen to old Alice before old Kiss....

That is a tough question, back in the mid to late 70s I would've said Kiss, but nowadays I listen to the old Alice Cooper Group cd's more than I do the old Kiss cd. So I just had to vote "Both were equally as good"

KISS has a much more solid back catelog. Alice has a GREAT bunch of songs but KISS has the stronger music in the long run. IMO Alice has 4 necessary albums. LITD, Killers, School's Out, and BDB. The rest are very hit and miss. I do give him credit for putting out current material regularly for his fans(I am one of them). The original Alice Cooper Band was a pile of shit live. His current concerts are MUCH better. I can't believe someone said Alice had more "meaningful" songs. Songs about mistaken sex identity, sex with corpses, dentistry, youth rebellion. Sounds like someone is taking old Alice too seriously.
All the KISS albums from KISS to Dynasty are must have's IMO. Not a bad album in the bunch.....maybe not even a BAD SONG!? KISS has their share of crap though. On top of that I can handle the state of ALICE much better than the state of KISS. I cannot hang with current KISS.
Realistically though, you cannot compare the two. Their music is nothing alike.....AND they shot for a different audience. I play each as much as the other.

The Alice Cooper Group by far. The original band were originators, Kiss took the concept and ran with it afterwards, but definitely The original Cooper Group. Lennon, McCartney, Townshend and Daltrey were all fans of the original band, even Salvador Dali for that matter, so that should count for something. Even in their early formative days they had the respect of Zappa, The Doors and Pink Floyd, mostly for being outrageous, but when they hooked up with Bob Ezrin it all clicked, and the albums they made together are true classics. The songwriting, musicianship are all first rate. And the topics covered lyrically were much more diverse and deeper as well.

I love Alice Cooper and if this was a "Who's Better Overall", it'd be a no-brainer for Alice. BUT, since it is who was better during the 70's, I gotta go with Kiss. Like Speedy said, Kiss had a stronger catalog during that time period. I think Cooper's best songs beat Kiss's best songs in that period, but IMO Alice Cooper had more "eh" songs and fast-forward-through songs than Kiss had at that time.

At the time when I was an adolescent, I would have definitely gone with Kiss. But now that I'm older, I can't say for sure. They were both great, and then they both put out a lot of crap. However, I think Kiss has put out more crap than Alice.

Although I love both, I gotta go with KISS. They were on top of the world in their heyday and while I know Cooper achieved great success, I'm not sure that he achieved the same level as KISS did. They were truly the "hottest band in the world" from '76-'79.
