Here's the full story.
Got to the HOB a little later than I like. Shocked to see a line all the way around the block!! Maybe SUPERGROUP did help Uncle Ted!?
The opening act was HUCK JOHNS. They were OK, nothing really special. They had ONE song that stood out. They remind me of a Heavy Metal Country band.
Uncle Ted came on less than half an hour later. Of course with the giant wall of feedback and screaming. It was FUCKING LOUD! I mean it. I always wear ear protection to shows(after Molly Hatchet nearly ruined my hearing once) and 2 songs into the show It was like I had nothing on at all(no joke). I usually check the volume sans ear plugs partway through the first tune, many times I lose the plugs. No tonight! The HOB was PACKED and very appreciative. I feel sorry for the idiots that didn't bring ear protection though. They were FUCKED, I guarantee it!
Uncle Ted was great as ever, although I don't think Mick Brown and Barry sparks are as good as the Full Bluntal Nugity band. They were good but not AS.
He ripped through the setlist above and gave the usual political speeches. However, I noticed that the speeches were more "politically correct"(not totally.....it IS Ted Nugent afterall). He must have some handlers telling him to tone it down. It was still outrageous and funny, but you would have to be a total DWEEB to be offended. Maybe he IS going into politics??
This is more of a "shut up and play yer guitar" show as well. Uncle Ted did not do a lot of his bits. He DID shoot Bin Laden with a bow, but other than that it was just pure R&R. If you don't want to hear extended solos.....DON'T GO! Wango Tango went on forever, with Ted ripping amazing lead work over that slamming, simple riff. Highlights were a cover of SOUL MAN....really cool and the addition of Need You bad. I thought how the hell is Ted gonna pull this off with ONE guitarist!? But he did.
I have seen Uncle Ted many times, dating back from the 70's. I can say with all honesty that at age 57 Uncle Ted is not slowing down at all.......dare I say he is BETTER than he was in his prime.
If you like to see guys who have total control of their instruments play long extended jams go see Ted. If you like crazy wildman rockers slamming out their tunes with reckless abandon, go see Ted. If you like to sit on yer ass and "enjoy" the band as they play the hits, exactly like the album.....don't go....stay home and listen to the CD. Uncle Ted delivers in 2006, as good or better than he did in 1976. I love getting slammed by good old fashioned rock and roll.
Oh yeah, my sons each got a guitar pick.

Cool review. One question: who did the singing of the Derek St Holmes songs? I think his bassist did on his more recent tours, but when I saw him in 2000, Ted sang everything.

'Hey Baby' would be weird without St. Homes singing it....damnit....Ted needs to get that original band back....
