Anyone here recall the first cd that they purchased? - Which one was it?... - when did you purchase it?... - how much did you pay? - do you still have it? The first exposure I had to the technology was back in the summer of 86'. A friend of mine and I had stopped in to pick up his brother and he wanted to show us his new stereo system...complete with CD player!!!. He slapped on The Moody Blues new release of that year..."The Other Side Of Life" Anyway, from what I heard, blew me away at the time. Fast forward...I ended up buying a compact Hitachi "boom box" from a friend about a year later cuz he needed the rent money...hahahahahaha It came with 4 cds that he had purchased. Simple Minds U2 Joshua Tree U2 Under A Blood Red Sky David Bowie - Golden Years The very first cd I picked up was Roger Hodgsons' "Hai Hai" solo album...$28 bones, taxes in. My work was then cut out for me after just finally replacing many of my 8 tracks with cassette tapes...only to now do the same with this new format... :- I'm almost there...hahahaha ;D Also, remember the outrageous price they were charging for this new format back then...20 years ago...$25 bucks a pop!!!...GASP SHOCK HORROR!!!! And remember checking to see the recording specs on the back of the album... "AAD...ADD or DDD". To this day, I still wonder which one was the preferred method of recording? What was your first purchase? Thanks Kim

My first CD was in 1990. It was Boston's debut. That specific CD is not currently in my collection I had to get a replacement. I remember one morning when I was in college prying it off the coffee table where it had been secured by dried beer.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact year (mid 90's) or what CD I purchased first. But I do remember that it was around the same time that I got my first credit card because shortly thereafter, I bought the entire KISS catalog in one shot except for a few CD's only because Record Town didn't have them. My player was a JVC 6-CD changer boom box that stored the discs internally.

I was still buying vinyl until they phased it out almost completely in the stores, unless you were going for used vinyl at that time. So, this one I bought on the week of release, and was thus the 1st CD purchase, and I've never stopped since

My first CD purchased was ELO’s “Out of the Blue”. I wanted to check a real post production heavy album with all the sterphonic stuff..
Dang, I think I paid $22 dollars for it back in 1992.
I still have it.
...I bought Boston’s debut, next.

First CD I bought was......can you guess? Molly Hatchet-Double Trouble Live. And to this day, I'm not sure WHY I bought it. I didn't have a CD player at the time and I already had it on cassette and it pretty good condition . This was, I think, late 1993 After that one, I bought the Outlaws' "Ghost Riders" and "Hittin' The Road" cuz I couldn't find either on cassette......still didn't have a CD player. Around early-mid 1994 a friend gave me his CD walkman which I rigged up to play through my aux input jack on my stereo. I didn't buy my first stereo with a CD player in it until early 1996. Oh and I still have those CDs and they are in mint condition. Don't recall how much they were though.
