Not sure if anyone had the chance to catch the Bachman/Cummings show televised on Wednesday night or not, but if you did,...any thoughts?
This was a recently documented feature showcasing the talents(?) of the former Guess Who duo that were allowed to perform some of their combined hits.
I managed to watch the hour long ordeal, and when I say "ordeal", that's pretty much what it was. I forced myself to stay with it even though my stomach started to turn after the first song.
God love em both, but I really had to cringe during all of their interpretations.
Sweet redeemer!!! Randy really knows how to kill a great and beloved BTO tune!!! Man, the guy just about had me tossing my cookies performing his rendition of "Let It Ride". The guy actually sounded out, syllabilized, and enunciated each and every word from the song!!!...even the Fred Turner "gin soaked" vocals, were quoted verbatim!!!!!!! ARGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
Then you had good ole Burton, complete with charcoal black hairpiece, sashaying around the words to "These Eyes"...all the while, sweat dripping from the grey sideburns, not so neatly tucked away beneath the monster mop he calls his own hair???
The highlight in my opinion was when Randy decided to do a scathing rendition of "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" delivered to the same slow and antagonizingly off beat calibre that would wake Frank Sinatra from the dead only to slap the man up side the head and tell him to speed things up a bit!!!!!!!!!
You think "Hey You" was tough to digest, this version of a time honored BTO staple was truly shot dead in it's tracks.
I can't help but think that someone in the CTV studios knew somebody that knew somebody and their kid just got a summer job and decided this was a way to help make a name for themselves?
Rush?...did you tune into this shite?
As an example...who here would like to hear a watered down, acoustic version of American Woman, with Randy going "wooo wooo"...
Not me...
Achhhhhh!!! I tossed my cookies on this one!
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a -250!...OH MA GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Kim
