Never say never! A creed I shall continue to live by!!! hahahahahaha. After almost 3 years of trying, and numerous attempts in ordering this release...I finally received it! YES!!!!! I am finally the proud owner of the album that I have been searching for over the last 20 years on cd!!!!!!! Many attempts proved fruitless through Amazon.com. I kept ordering...they in turn kept telling me it was on the way...only to have the order canceled because of the release being out of stock time after time, order after order! Late last week...I received a parcel in the mail...to my surprise...the double album containing "Box of Frogs / Strangeland"...a "2 fer"! $18.98 for the album. Let me tell you, it sure was a treat! Biggest surprise I had though was listening to the 2nd part of the album. It's been reviewed as one that contained little merit musically...I have to disagree!!! The inclusion of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Steve Hackett here is also a treat. I really don't understand why this group didn't get more raves than it did? ? The best part was getting to hear the songs I had forgotten about from the first release. For anyone that frequents Amazon.com and is frustrated by the unavailability of certain albums...hang in there...they will become available. Took me almost 3 years...but finally...here it is in all of its glory! Good thing is that it's not "remastered" to death and sounds exactly the way I remember it. What a great Easter gift!!! The bunny rules!!!!!!!! Nice little bonus was the $9.99 Status Quo dvd that I ordered with it. Pretty crappy production and overall a mish-mash of selected songs but still gives a person a general idea of who they are. What can you expect for 10 bucks? ;D I love Amazon.com...and I think they love me too...hahahahahahahaha. Now...if I can just get my paws on Manfred Mann and The Wilburys from those guys! Thanks Kim

That's great news, Kim! So happy you finally got your hands on that Box of Frogs CD! After seeing you mention Box of Frogs numerous times (not nearly as many times as Status Quo but close) I happened to be going through my vinyl one day and discovered I had the first album which I must have picked up from a thrift ship and hadn't gotten around to playing. I think it's a very cool album and wonder myself why it didn't get more attention. In fact I'm listening to it right now on the hi fi set! Hmmm ... speaking of Status Quo I do have 12 Gold Bars on CD. Maybe I'll listen to that one next. That purchase might have been all your fault too No actually I started hearing about them a lot when I started reading music magazines from the U.K. But it was interesting to find a fan of theirs on this forum. Which Manfred Mann? I've got that one album on vinyl with the two Springsteen covers. But I know they've done a lot of other stuff too, which people don't realize. Wilburys I've got on cassette so at least I can listen to them in the car and am not limited to the home hi fi set. Yes, if you know an album is on CD and you persevere you WILL get your hands on a copy ... eventually ... sometimes even without having to pay a ton of money for it! I went through that with two Diamond Head albums because they're only available as far as the CD format goes as Japanese "import" albums and it's like a cat and mouse game to find them in stock!

Awesome Kim, great album there, I like the 1st a bit better than 'Strangeland' but they're both really good albums. They did play them a bit on MTV with the 1st album, but it never took off unfortunately. Those was more Yardbirds reunion discs than the recent 'Birdland', especially since both Beck and Page were involved. I guess the mainstream rock world wasn't into that style of music at that time. Same as today I suppose...glad you finally got one of your 'holy grails' which would be a good idea for a thread I think...

I know I have... Blues-based hard rock combo Box of Frogs reunited guitarist Chris Dreja, bassist Paul Samwell-Smith, and drummer Jim McCarty, all three founding members of the famed Yardbirds. The trio re-teamed for the first time since the Yardbirds' mid-1968 dissolution to play a 1983 live date at the London Marquee, and the performance proved so successful that they soon founded Box of Frogs with vocalist John Fiddler, formerly of Medicine Head and British Lions. Fellow Yardbirds alum Jeff Beck guested on several tracks on the group's self-titled 1984 LP, with Jimmy Page appearing on the 1986 follow-up Strange Land. Box of Frogs disbanded soon after.
... been wondering who the hell Box Of Frogs are. They sound like they could be interesting.

Good point Nightwatcher!
I agree, the world at the time just wasn't into rehashing some of the older stuff during that period for some reason. It was the same time Plant came out with his solo stuff with the Honey Drippers and although the name made a few sit up and take notice, most were intent on moving forward musically, anxiously awaiting the next big act to hit the charts? I think this point in time began to give way to the "hair bands" and music kind of took a detour from the tried and true classics of the late 60's and 70's that was responsible for music of the Yardbirds, Zep era. Box of Frogs seemed to make little noise at the time and rightly so all things considered...
Flash and pizazz was the order of the day back then and image seemed "key" in promoting groups of the day at the time.
Although it was interesting to note that many a "hair group" wannabes still felt the need to play some of the die hard greats, namely Cheap Trick, Golden Earring, Foreigner, Journey, and some even had the talent and balls to try and emulate groups like Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons, just to make sure that they were able to relate to the "still young at heart" 25 - 30 year old crowd participants such as myself that were still an integral part of the support system these groups had to play to.
I think it's coming full circle though and these days, forgotten and lesser played groups from years past are seeing a rise in notoriety, not only in original play or through revisitation, but also through the influence these artists have on the up and coming groups these days that are using the older groups as mentors to focus their sound and musical abilities on.

Thanks as well Renegade for the info regarding the ones I mentioned. I did happen to check out Ebay and for some reason I just can't bring myself to shop that particular avenue???. Something about being burned awhile back to the tune of $4000.00 even through Amazon.com that has me a little gun shy so to speak. Luckily, for me, Amazon.com, VISA, and the Ontario Provincial Police Fraud Squad division folks made it all right so I trust in what they can do and have done for me in the past. Ebay on the other hand seems a little risky at this point. Also, I prefer to have the original or "real deal" delivered to my door, shrink wrapped and intact, "new to me" so to speak. I really don't want a part of someone's abused collection. Call me a picky bastard, just the way I am I guess???... It'd be different in dealing with one of the fine folks of this board, but to order an album from some unknown person that, for all I know, is selling their parents albums for some quick "crack habit" cash, just isn't in my best interest. Not to say that I may have to some day give into this method if I don't soon find the albums I'm in search of...hahahaha. With that said, any crack addicts out there wanna send me the Wilburys album for a fiver??? hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. The Travelling Wilburys album, along with Manfred Mann and hopefully Wrabbit will eventually become available sometime soon through Amazon.com...Hey!...Box of Frogs finally jumped into my collection!!! Good point though Renegade, and I can't thank you enough for the info...I may need to go this route yet. Thanks Kim
