Legendary hard rockers UFO have posted the following message on their official web site:
"Phil [Mogg, vocals] has just returned from Vinnie's [Moore, guitar] house in Delaware where he and Vinnie have been working on songs for the new album. In mid-March, all the bandmembers are due to arrive in Hannover, Germany to start rehearsing and developing the twelve songs that have resulted from the writing sessions. In late March/early April the actual recording will take place. The drums will be recorded in Hannover and the rest in Celle, near Hannover. The aim is to deliver the finished tracks to the record company sometime in May and then there will be some festivals in the summer. SPV plan to release the new album in late summer/early autumn, and then the band is due to begin touring in October. Andy [Parker, drums; who recently rejoined the band] is in fantastic shape and we all can't wait to finally start working!"
UFO recently released a live CD/DVD, "Showtime", via SPV. The set was recorded at Pumpwerk in Wilhelmshaven, Germany on May 13, 2005.

Never liked UFO. Just sounded so...well...so dumb! I know rock music isn't always supposed to be clever, but I always found Spinal Tap to be more profound than UFO. Never quite understood the fuss. I did hear one of their earlier tracks once though, that sounded great. But the stuff I have on my Anthology is a waste of shelf space!

Maybe if I see it cheap one day, but I'm kinda put off by the stuff on the Anthology! Not a fan of the Darkness either. Saw them live last year, and it was good fun, but the music was pretty disposable to my ears. Saw Motley Crue a few months after, and their stage show was far superior anyway. The Americans surely did it bigger and better on this ocassion. I certainly can't listen to their studio albums. When the Darkness debut came out, I had heard comparisons with Queen, Judas Priest, ACDC and Uriah Heep. It's like comparing Kingdom Come to Led Zeppelin. It did have a couple of good tracks on it, but other than that, it was a bit naff. Still, each to their own!

Forgive the blasphemy, but I actually liked the last UFO disc so much, I compared it to DP's "Perfect Strangers". Not quite as good, but almost IMO.
Interesting to see caljam's comment. First anti-UFO thing I recall seeing, but there's always a first time.
I really enjoy everything both pre- (psych stuff) and including Schenker. After that, it ran hot and cold for me. I really like "No Heavy Petting" a lot. That's a hot album.

UFO's 'Strangers In The Night' is one of the best live albums ever released, and as such is absolutely essential to any discerning rocker's collection. It doesn't get much better than this

UFO is 1 of my all time fav. WITHOUT a doubt. I really can't imagine anyone into rock that hasn't gone this route. I've been going it for akazillion years. Phill Mogg is a Genius. Nothing like his words. And the force that comes from within. Believe me, it's him that keeps UFO around & kickin Royal ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Oh, and I love SHARKS

I lost 'em after 'Making Contact', only to be BLOWN OUTTA the WATER with 'Walk on Water' and ultimately flung to new heights with 'You Are Here'. What a bad-azz band! Notes: Pete Way -underrated (and I've not even heard Waysted) Clapton aint near the god that Schenker is. Paul Chapman -love his work with -UFO- too. Phil Moog is quite probably a genius and a definite proven wordsmith of the highest order.

Trexx, my man, you said it dude & generally right with you! Although I actually have enjoyed EVERYTHING - Yes, everything! - from Phenomenon through the rest & beyond Making Contact, yep really! Like you, I do appreciate Moggy's voice, even though the line up with Atomic Tommy M (Misdemeanour & Ain't Misbehavin') was without Pete Way - Yeah, I know "WHAT ....?!!!" Ha ha, I'm sure is what you're thinking. - & even the High Stakes ... album too. They have their high & low points, but as ever the songs grow .... I mean ....., Something Else from Mechanix was just soooooo bad to me, but you know, they're a fun band so you kinda get used to it right?! I love the Showtime DVD set, it was great to hear the new versions of Try Me & Profession Of Violence. Metal - Mental?! - Mickey by the way, IS my fav guitarist of ALL time. He has his tantrums as do most - ALL?! - lead guitarists, but his sound is just sooooo perfect. Blackmore was my fav before I got into UFO in 1978, then M.S. ruled the roost for me! Vinnie Moore though, I have to say was awesome on the Y.A.H. tour. Well impressed! Guess I've been to around 400+ gigs in my life - Sadly only played about 50. - so I've seen & have been impressed by many, many players & still M.S. is best I.M.H.O. Looking forward to the new stuff, nice to see old Andy "No neck" Parker back in the fold too! You rock Andy! Cozy Al out!

Michael's a strange one at times, that's for sure, but he's been really nice to me whenever I've had the chance to speak with him, and he's supremely talented. Amazing though some of the bands that have sought him out, and he's either turned them down, or he was just too out of it to fit in, such as The Stones(who asked Michael to come down and audition when they were looking for a replacement for Mick Taylor, which he turned down), Aerosmith(Who, after he came down and tried to take over the recording sessions, Steven Tyler was so freaked, that coupled with the fact that Alice Cooper was trying to nab Joe Perry, inspired him to call Perry and start the reunion process), Ozzy Osbourne (who asked him to replace Randy Rhoads-turned down), Deep Purple(once again, asked to replace Blackmore-turned them down) and even Ratt, (who played a couple of gigs with Michael, and couldn't hang). He should be hugely well known by now, and almost all of those gigs would've raised his profile considerably, not to mention if he would've stayed in UFO right when they were on the verge of being huge. So, a lot of it he's done to himself. He keeps putting himself in these situations where people fuck him over, so a good majority he can't whine about. One of the best to ever pick up a guitar though, and one of my all time favorites, but he goes off the deep end too much if you ask me
