If you're anything like me, (and thank your lucky butt that yer not)...haha...you tend to remember songs from waaaay back when and when you first heard them, or upon hearing a song will bring you instantly back to a certain time in your life.
It's a well documented fact that the sense of "smell" will evoke a certain part of the brain and instantaneously return a person to a specific past memory...music has the same effect and I was wondering, what was it that the folks here were into in the year of 1982?
Don't ask me why I picked this specific year, I have no clue???... suffice it to say, it's far enough back that it just may make for some interesting answers and also bring back some fond memories of years gone by...plus give us all an indication as to what folks were into back then compared to now.
I'll mention Dave Edmunds and Kate Bush. This was the first time I had the chance to catch Edmunds' music because I had recently moved into a new apartment which supplied free cable tv. Never heard of the guy before this and what a pleasant surprise for me.
I instantly hooked up a copper wire to the little boom box I had at the time and "wallah"!!! instant cable FM, complete with all it had to offer. I also had the chance of revisiting Kate Bush and her new album "The Dreaming", most notably by hearing "Suspended In Gaffa", which I thought was great and still do to this day. To the point where I proceeded to purchase albums from these artists and still have in my collection.
Anyway, that was 1982 for me...
What about the rest of the folks here?
Keep in mind, this is not about what was on the airwaves at the time, but more precisely, what YOU were listening to in the year of 1982.
For those of the younger crowd, I'll try and post a year closer to home in a later thread...see how this one goes first.
Thanks Kim

I was in grade school and probably still listening to pop 45s like Centerfold, 867-5309, Duran Duran, Men At Work etc. It wouldn't be until late '83 or '84 and Pyromania that I discovered rock. The summer of '84 I think I played Pyromania and Love At First Sting over and over and over...... I remember wearing out cassettes of those two.

Around 1982 is when I really was starting to branch out musically. Before that I mostly listened to the Harder rock such as Kiss,Alice Cooper,Aerosmith,Sabbath,Scorpions,Judas Priest,Blue Oyster Cult,Nugent,... but around '82 I started getting into all the different styles.Joan Jett also left a bit of an impact on me.Just before"I Love Rock & Roll" was released Joan opened for triumph & was booed off the stage(mainly because she was kind of Punk).I thought she was awesome. The same year I saw David Johansen open for Pat Benetar & although Benetar put on a great show,I was totally blown away by Johansen. So along with the hardrock/metal sound I found myself also getting into the New Wave/Punk stuff. It was also around that time I started discovering Blues(I was so heavily into music back then I would read the songwriting credits on my records & discovered many original blues artists).I was really into following the local band scene in the Buffalo area. On a sidenote to Kim: On a previous thread we went back & forth a bit about Dave Edmunds & I mentioned I thought it was around '82 that I discovered Dave Edmunds also after seeing a concert on MTV.I did a bit of digging & found the tape which I recorded it on & it was from 82. The sound had deteriorated a bit but was watchable & I enjoyed it

I actually had to look up artists to see what they had that year to know what I was listening to. I know I was still mostly into Country musci, but I did experiment with top 40 radio for a spell in the early 80's and by looking up what songs were released when, I found out that 1982 I was still listening to the Rock Top 40. At that time, I recall listening to these songs: Jack And Diane-John Cougar Abracadabra-Steve Miller Band Pressure-Billy Joel I also think 1981 songs like: Juke Box Hero-Foriegner Start Me Up-Rolling Stones were still being played on the top 40 stations cuz I recall being into those tunes as well. As for my Country music tastes, I believe these songs were the ones I was into at the time: Blaze Of Glory-Kenny Rogers Love Will Turn You around-Kenny Rogers She Got The Goldmine, I Got The Shaft-Jerry Reed The Bird-Jerry Reed Bobbie Sue-Oak Ridge Boys Mountain Music-Alabama I Like Beer-Tom T Hall (Older song, but I know it was still getting alot of airplay at the time these other songs came out) Born To Run-Emmylou Harris (NOT The Springsteen song!) Crying My Heart Out Over You-Rickey Skaggs Heartbroke-Rickey Skaggs I Don't Care-Rickey Scaggs War Is Hell On The Homefront Too-TG Sheppard Now that I looked everything up, I'm thinking that, at 10 years old, I was a year away from my music revival. I know I was into music in 1982, but mostly what was played on the radio. Most of the songs that made enough of an impression on me to start buying albums and cassettes came out in 1983.
