Just when you thought it was safe to come back and wallow in the safe and warm waters of R&R Universe, another poll hits you up for an answer! I must confess that I am not entirely sure just what makes for a Classic Rock album...however, there are a number of them that have been released over the years that many people continue to make reference to. Considering the vast and varied tastes of the members of this board, it is with great difficulty that I put my neck on the line in choosing the ones that I do. I apologize up front for those that I have seemingly overlooked at this point, but you must realize that I am certainly not an expert on the matter to any degree. I will however admit to being around long enough to know that a good majority of the albums I have selected to this point, have done quite well and made an impact on the musical industry thus far, and in listing the choices I have so far included, seems to have met with favourable feedback. If there are some that I have overlooked and not yet gotten around to, please, by all means, PM me and I'll include them as a thread. I look forward to it and don't mind at all in doing the "leg work" in setting them up as polls. I have the time to do so on weekends and for what it's worth, it's the least I can do for any of the members here. Help me out...I'll certainly be willing to oblige and I trust your opinions and suggestions. Keep in mind though, it should be one considered as a classic and at least be an album that most would recognize to a certain extent through the songs contained within. For example, as much as I adore Tull's "Broadsword & The Beast", I feel it would be quite silly to mention it as a "classic" in terms of notoriety. In fact, it would only make sense to instead showcase an album such as "Aqualung", or "Thick As A Brick" from the Tull catalog in order to expect better results. Also, there are a great number of artists with more than one "classic release", but for now, I'm trying to focus on individuals from as many as I can think of...just to keep variety as a factor in the polls...therefore, I don't feel it's right to mention 3 Queen albums in a row or all of the early KISS albums. (Which by the way I could use some help on because I must confess, as much as I like their music, I don't have a clue as to which one is considered to be one of their best)...HELP ME!!! hahaha. Anyway, I start this round off with a Beatles classic. Some may wonder why the Pepper album wasn't picked instead...simply because in my opinion, this one had a bit more depth in terms of variety as a studio release and the tracks contained within. Similar to, yet quite unlike the "White Album", there seems to be a bit more consistency with this release. The Fab Four seemed to gel together that much more here and proved so on one of the few times witnessing total 4 part harmony on "Carry That Weight"...(plus Ringo got to do a drum solo on the album!!!! woooohooooo!!!!!). Should be interesting to see the results... Have fun kids!!! ***I know...another long winded post...what can I say...it's just who I am***...DOH!!!!! Thanks Kim

If there had been a way to vote for two songs at once it would have been Something and Carry That Weight. But since you can't, I voted for Carry That Weight.

Good point Conan... That would be taking the easy way out though...haha. C'mon...out of the medley, there has to be one that's yer favourite???...haha. It's funny, but when you play the album, you find yourself being taken through to the end...not like a person stops at "Mean Mr. Mustard" and says..."yeah that was a cool tune"... ...What a great album! If you do opt for "side 2" however...I'll fully understand!...and your choice makes perfect sense to me. Thanks Kim

I went with Golden Slumbers, but would have preferred that it was marked as the Golden Slumbers medley, which is what Ii really like, not just that song...

I understand fully and completely that this album contained probably one of the most longest medleys in rock history in regards to a studio album, however, I listed the tracks the way in which they are indicated on the original album itself.
From what I understand, they were recorded as individual songs unto themselves, but at the time, during the recording session that went into the making of this release, it was felt that the songs could be and were ultimately thought of as one to a degree...ergo, the thought that the entire part of "side 2" so to speak from the vinyl release was one "whole song".
Check out the liner notes however and the producers actually list the songs separately.
Thanks Kim

Could we have an option for all of side 2? That would be my choice also! Abbey Road is my favorite beatles album, and side 2 is a main reason. Side one is great also
