Simple poll, I will admit...but I'm curious to find out just what makes this album as great as it is by asking which song here is your favourite.
I would also appreciate at least some input as to why it is a person prefers their song of choice over the rest of the tracks that make for an almost perfect classic rock album.
I'm also interested in seeing just how many of the kids here pick "Smoke" as their fav. Nothing against it, but because it's been overplayed over the years, just wondering how many still can't get enough of that incredible opening riff.
(also, I realize that I may have spelled "favorite" wrong, but keep in mind, I'm Canadian)...hahahahahahahaha I usually prefer to go with the American version because I think it's a waste of a perfectly good vowel and could be put to better use and make for a shorter post on my part...(unlike this one).
Thanks Kim

Space Truckin'...this was tough...a toss up between Space Truckin and Highway Star, but I find myself beating my steering wheel in the car when Space Truckin is playing...but I love driving to Highway Star at high speed on the highways...
Good question Kim!

Even though it's been played to death, Smoke on the Water is still my fave.

Had to go with Lazy. I used to drive my roomates nuts with that song when they tried to sleep the day away ! Plus, it really highlights all of the instruments in the band ! Check out the DVD "Deep Purple/Machine Head" in the "Classic Albums" series. All of the band members go into detail about the recording of the entire album. What a story !

Lazy, great bluesy feel to that song, and it just has to be my all-time fave Deep Purple song.

C'mon, why isn't Smoke On The Water running away with this one?!
The first time I ever heard that song was I guess what you would call my first heavy metal experience. That song just blew me away. I thought it was the coolest, heaviest thing I'd ever heard in my life up until then. (Me being a sheltered child ca. 1974/1975).
