No contest, Sammy all the way! Sammy was an established solo act before he joined Van Halen, I don't think anyone wouylda given Roth's solo stuff a second look if he hadn't already been in Van Halen.

Yanke Rose and Just Like Paradise were good but that's about it. Sammy solo kills DLR solo.

The real reason why I like the Eat Em and Smile & the Skyscraper albums is DLR has some really great musicians backing him up. By himself DLR has never done a thing for me.
Sammy is all talented on his own. He can sing, play guitar, and writes good songs.

I agree with all here so far...Sammy all the way. I was aHUGE Sammy fan before he joined VH, and still enjoy his stuff after VH.
Roth had 2 great albums, and the rest were very hit and miss.

Back in the late 70's Sammy opened for Cheaptrick. I never heard of Sammy so I thought he was going to be a country singer for some reason & didn't have any desire to see him.The day of the show I heard "Growing Pains" on the radio & it blew me away!Sammy had an awesome band back then.I also seen him open for ZZ Top in the early 80's & he was great. I prefer DLR in Van Halen but I prefer Sammy solo. When I got together w/ my wife in 93 she made a best of Sammy cassette. It was kind of strange because I'm waiting for Red,Bad Motor Scooter,Trans Am,This Planet's On Fire,Plain Jane,or Growing Pains & she never heard of those songs! That's when I realized "Yes,there is an age difference"

Sammy really has life by the balls ! Montrose, Solo, Van Halen, Solo. Now he's got his thing going with Cabo Wabo and he plays and tours when he feels like it. This guy has really done it all and he just keeps going !

This guy has really done it all and he just keeps going ! I read an article about Sammy in some business magazine that talked about his tequila. He makes more from the sale of his Cabo Wabo brand tequila than he does from his music touring, royalties and his clubs combined. Cabo Wabo Tequila has become one of the top 3 high end Tequila brands in North America and is starting to take off in other parts of the world. Not only because it's popularity of being associated with Sammy Hagar but it really is damn good tequila. Critics consistently rank it as some of the best and Cabo Tequila wins tons of awards. It is very good if you like Tequila but around here it's usually around 6-8 bucks a shot. Hopefully Sammy will be able to continue to make money so he can come through with those big free concerts he talked about.

EAT EM & SMILE IS A GREAT GREAT ALBUM( THE BEST ALBUM VAN HALEN NEVER MADE) IMO. BUT SAMMY PUT OUT BY FAR MORE GOOD SOLO MATERIAL THAN DAVE. I REALLY LIKE SAMMY'S EARLY SOLO STUFF.
