On another thread we were discussing which bands/tours people WISH they could have seen.
Who here among us has actually seen a show or some of these CLASSIC concerts that would make most others envious? Yet interested in hearing about?
Surprisingly, I actually have an answer to the question. I'm not a hard core concert goer but I did have the privilege of seeing QUEEN with Freddie Mercury on their 1980 tour. AWESOME! Still my most favorite and best concert I've ever seen!
Oh, and if there's any interesting details about your particular experience, please feel free!

Where to begin....
I saw Queen on the first US show of the "News of the World" tour. They did extra songs for our show. Feddie said he wanted to guage reaction to some songs to see which received the best responses... fun show.
First time I saw Jethro Tull (Songs from the Wood), Ian Anderson was battling a flu and throat thing. He said he's give it his best shot after the opening song (Locomotive Breath). He kept going to the side of the stage and put a towel around his shoulder, and drinking some warm liquid. The show was great, and I don't think any of us would have known he wasn't feeling well if he hadn't mentioned it.
The next time I saw Tull (Stormwatch) was two days after Ian had been struck by something in the eye at Madison square Garden. He wore safety glass of a sort and came out before the first song and thanked everyone for coming and that he was happy to be here, and if anything lands on the stage, the shows over! Another great concert. UK opened and were interesting but odd.

I'm pretty sure that there aren't any shows that I have seen that would make anyone envious. I'm glad I got to see the ones I did and can proudly say that they were ones that I wanted to see.
April Wine - 1975 (might bring a hoot from some April Wine fans here?)
Status Quo - 2003 For $15.00 and a 300 people venue...I know quite a few in the UK would have loved that one...I know I did.
Roger Hodgson - 1997 Again, $15.00...about 200 people...any Hodgson fans???
As much as I really don't care much for U2 these days...I'm glad I caught the "Joshua Tree" tour in 87' in Toronto. Neat seeing Bono run around the stage in a sling with a broken paw. Plus I like the earlier stuff.
What I would like to mention though, is the ones I am envious of.
I'd doubt if anyone here was there at the time, but I recently found out that the Beatles actually played the Maple Leaf Gardens back in 64' I wonder if it was as crazy as Shea Stadium? If it wasn't and you could have heard them...that would have been a blast!
Also...anyone here that caught Tull and the Broadsword and The Beast tour...you lucky b**tards!!!
Thanks Kim

I saw the VERY FIRST Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert! It was in Philadelphia in 1999! Back then, it was basically Savatage with a 12 piece string section and guest singers. Now, there are two touring groups and the Savatage alumni is spread out between the two.
Only group I can think of having seen in their "Classic" form was the Charlie Daniels Band in 1985. A few years past their heyday, but the main players were still there (Daniels, guitarist Tommy Crain, bassist Charlie Heyward, drummer Fred Edwards and "Taz" DiGregorio on keys)

I thought of another: Stone Temple Pilots in January of 1993 opening for Megadeth. I think "Sex Type Thing" was getting a little bit of airplay at that point, but for the most part, NOBODY had heard of them. People were booing them and throwing water balloons at them. Me and my buddy looked at eachother and said, "These guys ain't gonna amount to anything".........and of course, that summer you couldn't turn on the radio for 5 minutes without hearing a Stone Temple Pilots tune.

I caught Stevie Ray Vaughn and Joe c*cker at the Gorge in George, WA. This was just a few weeks before the crash. Joe was late, so Stevei Ray opened up, and for an encore both bands came out on stage and Joe and Stevie jammed on old sixties classics ! What a show !

A couple of Aerosmith concerts I went to were special for not good reasons. BTW, I was an Aerosmith junkie at the time. 1979- Psychic Jean Dixon predicted the ceiling of the civic center woul collapse during "Dream On" There was a little electricity in the air as everyone was talking about it before the show. Aerosmith never played it! This show was only slightly better than the next year. 1980- Steven Tyler passed out and fell off the stage.

I have seen a ton of shows...any that people would be envious of? ...not sure...some of the highlight shows...
Stevie Ray Vaughn the night he buried his Dad and showed up late and put on a blistering, but emotion filled set.
Jimmie Vaughn on his first headline tour of clubs...saw him the month before opening for Clapton...blew the place away, then headlining in a 1,000 seat club, and did the same there.
Roger Waters on the Pros and Cons tour...I will never forget that show...Clapton on guitar and a ten minute standing ovation at the end of the show with the lights on, forcing the band back on the stage for an encore they truly were not prepared to play.
Supertramp on the Roger Hodgson farewell tour...an emotional night in the middle of a three night run at the old Montreal Forum...Supertramp are loved by Montreal fans.
Pink Floyd on the Division Bell tour...amazing light show
ANY Rush tour...(sorry guys and gals...there's a bit of bias here!)
Kiss on the '77 Love Gun tour...my first concert and one I will never forget...it helped that Cheap Trick opened, and I have loved that band ever since.
Metallica / Guns n Roses riots at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal...not really something anyone would have wanted to been at...but it was historical, and I was there...for the record, I DID NOT RIOT!
There are SO many others...but most are just blurs at this point (loud music burned my brain cells!)

I saw three Classic Van Halen tours.
I saw Queen back in 82 or 83, Billy Squier opened.
I had front row for Floyd in 1994. And someone else already mentioned the stellar light show. The sound was pretty amazing too. Especially that close.
I saw the Blue Fog tour in 1981.
One of my favorite concerts of all time was J. Geils Band. What a friggin blast we had. Danced my ass off.
I saw INXS before Hutchence died.
I had a list of all my shows once...somewhere.
I am jealous of anyone who saw SRV.

A lot of great shows listed. I would have loved to have seen Queen with Freddie. Early Van Halen would have been great. The Darkness in a club! Roger Waters must have bee cool Has anyone seen Pink Floyd before Roger left? I saw Pink Floyd for the Pulse tour twice in '94. I also saw Roger's debut show for the In The Flesh Tour. It was his first live performance since the late 80s.
