The Darkness return with their new single 'One Way Ticket' on 14th November. This will be followed by the release of the hugely anticipated second album 'One Way Ticket To Hell...And Back' out 28th November.
'One Way Ticket' heralds the return of a band at their best. Re-bonded, revitalised and refocused, with an amazing album ready to be unleashed, the band have effortlessly come up with the goods yet again. Walloping drums, monumental walls of guitars and the ever hook-heavy choruses that saw the band stride into the hearts of the world in the first place..not to meniton the sitar solo!
Their story so far is quite incredible. Since their debut EP in 2002, The Darkness have achieved more than 3.5million sales of their debut album 'Permission to Land' across the world, nearly half of that in the UK alone. An unprecedented 3 sold out nights at Wembley Arena, 4 top ten singles, 3 BRITS and an Ivor Novello - this was success on a scale not witnessed for generations.

I just watched the video to the single and it's cool and funny as hell. Bet you a million dollars MTV won't play it because it has drug use in it, that is it has "White" guys doing drugs in it. Of course if it was brothers doing them it would be hip and Number 1 on TRL.

I'll be honest, their falsetto's on a couple songs off the first CD made me cringe, but...... I saw them on Letterman last night, and they were excellent! I will be picking up their new cd this week!

I think they're great! I went skiing last night and put One Way Ticket in my .mp3 player. It was a blast screaming I love what you've done with your hair along with Justin while jibbing down the terrain park past the teenie boppers and their hippity hop. I'm sure they thougth I was nuts. But this CD rocks!

I bought the new Darkness CD a few days ago. I was a little concerned about Justin Hawkins’ vocals, the comparisons being made to Queen and how much production was supposed to be on the album.
Fortunately, to me, Justin’s vocals are a lot easier to take on this album. At the very beginning of the first track, One Way Ticket, he briefly goes into that horrible falsetto and I kind of hit the panic button. But the rest of the album, for the most part, he stays within a relatively normal vocal range, doesn’t get overly flamboyant most of the time like on the first album, and really, doesn’t sound that bad to me.
The music is quite good. Like I’ve said before, they’re all excellent musicians. (Plus you gotta love a guitarist who uses a Les Paul Gibson - Dan Hawkins.) I don’t really like to make comparisons and instead take each album I listen to on its own but I will say that as a whole the music sounds to me like a lot of rock music from my some of my favorite bands of the 70’s that I enjoyed and still enjoy. I can’t nail down just a couple names. The music sounds like it has a variety of influences. Also I think it’s very cool that there’s many sounds on the album beyond the basic four piece rock band. I’d almost forgotten how much I like hearing a string (orchestral) section on songs from time to time. There’s also keyboards, pan flute, bagpipes, sitar, and who knows what else, lots of interesting sounds.
I detected some vocal harmonies here and there that struck me as sounding Queen-esque. Otherwise I’m not really hearing the comparison to Queen. Or maybe I don’t want to LOL
I really like this album. I might warm up to it even more with a few more listens. I’m like that with a lot of albums ...
What I’m hoping for their third album (and I think there will be a third album) is they get more into a sound of their own rather than doing a good job emulating their various influences.
