Growing up, and later on during the 70's and early 80's there used to be some great music programs on late nights that featured some great bands. I remember seeing UFO, Zeppelin, Mahogany Rush, Aerosmith, Purple, Alice Cooper etc. when I'd come home from a night of partying Unfortunately it doesn't seem like there are anymore, everything's been taken over by all the bling bling and crap of rap music Occasionally you'll see a decent band on one of the late night talk shows, but not very often. What was your favorite late night music program?

Midnight Special, I can remember coming home on a friday night and watching that one. Wolfman Jack was the host and it always seemed to have good acts, seems like I can remember one that was Co-hosted by Ted Nugent and the guest were Aerosmith, AC/DC and a number of others I can't recall who at the moment (btw is there a website dedicated to that show ? does anyone know?) Anyways I always loved The Midnight Special, and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert was good also.

Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert were both good....pretty tough call between those two. They had a LOT of the best bands. Of course, that was back in the good old days when rock-and-roll was still rock-and-roll...before MTV, FM radio, and the record companies came along and ruined everything. Headbanger's Ball didn't do much for me...I never really could get into videos...unless they were of live performances.

Too young for most of these. I recall in the early 90's ABC had some in concert thing on around 1am on Friday nights. That was pretty cool. I recall seeing Judas Priest, Megadeth, Firehouse and others from that time period on there.

I went with Don Kirshner(Though Midnight Special was close)because Even though Midnight Special came through with some awesome shows it wasn't always hard rock(a lot of weeks were AM friendly).Don Kirshner seemed to have at least one rocker on almost every week.I remember seeing Kiss on their doing I Want You,Love'em Leave'em,& Hardluck Woman.I remember they had a special on Alice Cooper live from '72 complete with the hanging. The one thing about the Midnight Special was that almost all was performed live where as DK showed a lot of video clips.

I had to give Headbangers Ball the nod, but the Midnight Special and Don Kirshner actually influenced me more when I was young. Where else can you see AC/DC and Cat Stevens ?

I liked that you would get Kansas and Styx on his show. I liked the midnight special too.

Hard to pick between all of those TV shows that need to be released on DVD....hint...hint. I went with Don Kirshner's Rock Concert because the footage was better and so were the bands like STARZ, NEW YORK DOLLS, UFO, and many others that weren't so top selling.

Midnight Special....always liked it better because most of the acts were playing live. KISS had one of their greatest moments on there. I too remember the TED NUGENT MS. I'll tell you the reason we all remember it. When else did we ever get a show with that many hard rock acts on in one night? Hell we all watched that one.

I voted for the only one of these I've seen Headbanger's Ball.

I loved all these shows, but I voted for The Midnight Special. It was where I first saw Journey and fell in love with their music. And any show that had Peter Frampton on it was awesome in my book.
I agree that it would be great if some of these shows were put on a dvd. Wolfman Jack was so cool!

Being born and raised in rural Northern Ontario, we didn't have much in the way of musical offerings either through radio or television. Seriously, we had 2 channels up until 1983 simply because cable had yet to be pumped into the area.
Needless to say when I left in 78' I was exposed to the world...hahahaha Thank god for my druggie buddys back then that kept me up to date on stuff like Purple, Cooper, Sabbath and the likes...hahahahahahaha
I do recall getting Don Kirshners offerings in the late 70's on the odd weekend occasion. It wasn't every weekend from what I recall because the CBC or CTV networks had other things they preferred to play...such as...the friggn' test pattern!!!!!!!!!!!!
