BIO
Getting an early musical start by playing at backyard bar-b-q's as a pre-teen emulating his heroes...he soon figured out that he could actually pen a few tunes of his own, starting as early as age seven with a little ditty titled, "Creepy Crawlers".
Years of coaxing neighborhood kids to convince their parents at xmas time that drums would be a great gift, and join with him in his quest for rock and roll domination were all too futile except for a couple local drummers in eighth grade. High school was filled with parties and punk rock, and with after school employment came the possibilities of louder amps and better guitars...always a good thing. Senior year was spent playing bass in his brother's original project throughout NY, NJ and PA. This was when he gained tons of stage and studio experience....and really got a thirst for playing live.
Post high school and after a couple failed attempts at creating a band of his own, he joined up as guitarist for a few bands and finally decided to take center stage and start up his own no matter what it took....that's when Mars Needs Women was born. They put out two records, one on a major and one on an indie, toured the US a couple times, once with Cheap Trick. While waiting to get another major label deal after being dropped by Sire, his band got bored or got real jobs and left him hanging. This is around the time he was singing for members of Skid Row in a band that opened for KISS and Motley Crue in the late 90's called Ozone Monday...but since it seemed that project was going nowhere, he gave his notice and went back and re-formed Mars Needs Women and did an indie record and small tour.
Since Mars Needs Women was always a Shawn Mars solo project as far as songs and style went anyway, he decided to have a go as a solo artist to make it easier on his stress level as far as dealing with other personalities and egos...he also figured that he would put all his music on his website for free as mp3's and let everyone enjoy it, because that's really what it's all about, he just wants to create music and have it enjoyed.
You can see Shawn Mars perform with a full band and solo acoustic in the NYC, Jersey and Philly area. He's been busy writing material for his first solo album and writing and producing music for local artists, owns an independent record label and recording studio, guest hosts occasionally on the Electric Ballroom radio show on WRAT and WDHA and is working on a screenplay for a low budget rock and roll vampire film called "Bloodsuckers From Planet Mars"
...his favorite food is pizza and mexican.....because it goes great with beer....lol.
