I went with Alice Cooper. He was doing things at the time that nobody else had even thought of. But, I guess you could say the same thing about Hendrix. Damn! Such hard questions. Keep it simple from now on...okay? ;D

Went with John Kay & Steppenwolf.
It was a great time for me when I listened to this band. I was young, & they influenced the hell out of me.

mountain for their insane heavyness, but steppenwolf comes in a close second for me. after all they did coin the term "heavy metal"

I picked Mountain. Leslie West was very influential too. He wasn't Jimi but he had a tone that was killer at the time. The "crunch and balls" of Mississippi Queen was unequalled at the time. I also think that Blue Cheer's "Vencibus Eruptum" was a proto-metal album. They weren't very good but they had the attitude, and they were LOUD!

Steppenwolf - They had an attitude and real rough edge to their sound with intelligent lyrics that meant a lot to thousands of fans then and now. Iron Butterfly would be another favorite.

I chose Montrose... however, I must give an American hard rock salute to KISS!

I chose Montrose... however, I must give an American hard rock salute to KISS! I agree Many times Aerosmith is mentioned as an influence, many mention Rocks
