I missed Charlie Daniels because one of our party was an hour late. I didn't complain too much because he's the one who got us free VIP passes. Which got us up at the very front and center. Besides that we didn't have to pay $5.00 for water we got free water and at the start of Skynyrd the temps where still around 100.
The concert was part of a four day festival called Country Thunder. Its basically a stage put up in the middle of a farm field next to a campground. I think it has a daily attendance of around 50 thousand.
When Lyrnyrd Skynyrd was on we watched it from the general seating area. They where really good and played all their hits. I like Skynyrd but am not a huge fan but still really enjoyed their set. It was great to hear and see Freebird done live.
For ZZ Top we moved up to the VIP seating area and found some seats at about row 5 center. I've heard people say ZZ Top has lost it a little if that's the case I can't imagine what they where like because let me tell you they sounded great!! Gibbons tore it up along with Hill and Beard. The sound they put out freakin' rocked and is amazing. A friend I was with not a big rock Friend said "I can't believe how good they sound... there's only three of them..." After about 3 or 4 songs we made our way up to the very front and center. It was amazing to be that close to Billy as he worked his magic. Not a lot of glitz, lights or explosions, besides a glittery back drop or furry guitars but they don't need it. Even if they have lost a step from a few years ago which I didn't see evidence of they're still head and shoulders above most.
I believe this to be the set list;
Got Me Under Pressure
Pincushion
Waitin for the Bus
Jesus Just Left Chicago
I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide
Brown Sugar
Heard it on the X
Buck Nekkid
Stages
I Loved a Woman
Cheap Sunglasses
Rattlesnake Shake
Pearl Necklace
Viva Las Vegas
Gimme All Your Lovin
Sharp Dressed Man
Legs
Tube Snake Boogie
La Grange
Tush
