Flirtin' With Disaster by Molly Hatchet-Contains everything that is good about southern rock: Boogie beat, twin leads, southern drawl vocals. Could be the ultimate southern rock song or cut and paste parody depending on your perspective. To me, it's the former, but is it my favorite of these 3? Green Grass and High Tides by The Outlaws-Ultimate jam song, I'll take it over "Free Bird" anyday. Favorite? Maybe. Whipping Post by The Allman Brothers Band- Love that bassline in the intro! Still not sure if I would classify this as a southern rock song or as an early heavy metal song . Heard It in a Love Song ~ The Marshall Tucker Band-Beautiful melody, probably my current favorite, though I'm not sure in good conscious I can vote for this instead of the above 3. Willin' by Little Feat-I don't think I know this one. Uneasy Rider by Charlie Daniels Band-Cute song, but I don't know that I need to listen to it more than once or twice a year. Gimme Three Steps by Lynyrd Skynyrd-As big of a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan as I once was, I never thought this song was "all that". Jackie Blue by Ozark Mountain Daredevils-I used to HATE this song, i've come to like it, but "Favorite Southern Rock Song" it is not.

Out of this group I picked Marshall Tucker. My favorite Southern Rock would be probably something else by Lynard Skynard or maybe .38 Special. I know some don't but I consider ZZ Top southern rock and and they kick all kinds of southern ass. IMO

I know some don't but I consider ZZ Top southern rock and and they kick all kinds of southern ass. IMO Oh, I consider ZZ Top southern rock. Not sure that "Eliminator" or "Afterburner" are really "Southern Rock", but neither are several of the 80's records by 38 Special, Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot. Oh and ZZ Top DO kick ass!

Thats the way I feel, labels suck. These are bands that are from the southern part of America. It's the critics that slap labels on things. It's all rock and/or roll to me!!

I WENT WITH MOLLY OOOOHHEEEEE HATCHET!!! FLIRTIN KICKS SOME MAJOR BUTT!!! AND MY WIFE HATES THE SONG SO WHENEVER I WANNA GET HER OUT OF THE HOUSE I CRANK THAT SONG UP!!! ;D LOL Gotta love that! REBEL! Let me begin with I LOVE all those songs and it is difficult to choose. I voted for Gimme Three Steps. The reason being that I can relate to the words in a literal way. Also, the song was so "out-of-the-box" and in a style that I hadn't heard until Lynyrd Skynrd made it to the radio. I also have to comment on "Flirtin' With Disaster", my favorite Molly Hatchet number. It is a huge composition and full of red-blooded, kick-ass, everything. Everything that makes southern rock so great. Also worth commenting on is the Green Grass and High Tides. Holy crap! I will never, I say NEVER forget the concert I saw that was a triple bill at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California sometime in the mid-eighties. .38 Special, Blackfoot, and the Outlaws. When the Outlaws did that song on stage, the dudes from the other bands were out with them and there were EIGHT GUITARISTS JAMMING. It was a wall of sound that made the hair on my neck bristle. I made sure that I took a mental note of it at the time, because it was so incredible. I remember looking over at my best bud and elbowing him. "Do you believe what we're seeing and hearing?" I screamed. "FAUGHKING-BITCHEN!", we said in unison... Concerts like that are grand memories. So cool. Southern rock is GREAT. My write-in at this time would have to be AMERICAN DOG'S "Train". Clearly the best new Southern Rock in the world. -trexx

Green Grass And High Tides...just barely over Whipping Post and Flirtin' With Disaster. I probably would have went for some Skynyrd, but Gimme Three Steps is far from thier best...I'll take Saturday Night Special or You Got That Right anyday.
